Wind-up Knight for Android, 3D Side-Scrolling Cuteness at its Finest

In need of a new game this Friday? As suggested by Google in their Editor’s Choice section of Google Play, comes Wind-up Knight. Upon playing I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the graphics and touchscreen controls. As a bonus the game is completely free and contains 50+ levels to fight through. You play as a robotic knight for the good king who’s main goal is to save a princess. Shocker. The game plays like a really good 3D version of classic Mario.

For free, you can’t go wrong.

  • A word of warning to those of you who flash often. If you buy the key to unlock all the levels through the app, it will not carry over (even with a TiBu backup) if you flash a new rom. I ran into this issue, and while it was a bit of a bummer, i’m glad i was still able to play through the game via the in game currency. The game is freaking awesome and I was happy to support the devs.

Just trying it out, and the letter you get right at the beginning from the Black Knight has the line. “I’m n ur base stealin ur princess lol” Instantly knew I’d like this game.

  • NYAvsFan

Played it a bit yesterday, it’s actually really fun.

i got this on my phone, and a swear there were in app purchases for all the levels, which is why i stopped playing it. was there an update?

    • JoshGroff

You have a choice to IAP them, but if you’re good and save your cash from each level (and not buy random cool items), you can unlock the books for free (honestly, it’s not that difficult)

  • I’ve been playing this game since it first came out. Looks incredible on the Transformer Pad Infinity. I’ve gotten S rank on every level except the fourth Knightmare. I can’t even beat that level.

  • mustbepbs

I love this game so much. What better challenge is there than the game being totally free if you’ve got the skill? I’ve almost beat the last book and haven’t spent a penny.

They are likely counting on people buying upgrades before they realize they needed to save it to buy the next book.

  • Clifford Gadd

I’ve had this game for a while and it should be known that you only get enough currency in game to unlock the next section of the game. If you buy upgrades you won’t have enough to continue further into the game without an in app purchase But I do highly recommend this app.

Which leaves you 1700 gold at the end of book 4 with all levels s-ranked, both shared on Facebook and G+, and no items purchased.

I played this game when it came out almost a year ago, can’t recommend it enough! Its a totally different experience on a nexus 7

I like it on my phone but can’t wait to try on my N7. Left it at home today. 🙁

    • JoshGroff

I absolutely loved it on my Touchpad, haven’t tried it on my N7 yet, but I bet it’s awesome (really is the best form factor for mobile gaming.)

  • This game is good but it doesn’t play anything like classic Mario 😛

    • Well, come on – nothing will ever compare. But you get the point 😉

      • Well, I meant in terms of how it actually plays. It’s an autorunner – you don’t control your character’s left-right motion (at least not directly). IMO it has more in common with games like Canabalt or Temple Run than Mario.

Still a great game, though 🙂

  • Love this game. Love the developers for making it 100% free to play if you’re really good. Also have to give props because the developers are graduates from Animationmentor.com

You net 100 cash extra at the end of each book after buying the next if you S rank everything. Not impossible, but those Knightmare levels are pretty killer. and of course you have the twitter/fb/g+ shares for 100 cash per. So theoretically, if you S rank all missions in all books, you’ll have 1800 cash for random items at the end of book 4.

Greatest mobile game EVER!!! I’ve played through the first 3 books once (wish save data could be transferred from device to device, would love to actually finish the game)

    • SubMatrix

Should be able to if you root and backup the app data with titanium backup.

      • nwd1911

Wouldn’t it be great if we could backup our game data to Google Drive? I think opened the API for devs to make that type of integration. That’s more for people smarter than me…I just want games across all my devices.

      • JoshGroff

TiBu doesn’t transfer data between devices though (at least not that I know of)

        • If you use program like Root Explorer, you can transfer that TiBu data to your other devices, possibly even using Drive (as nwd1911 wished for).

          • JoshGroff

I tried doing it with using the same SD card, but I think it saves by device ID or something, then again, I haven’t used TiBu in awhile, so it might have changed.

          • SubMatrix

I definitely restored my angry birds data when going from my dinc to s3 (same sd card) and my level progress was maintained.

You sir are a gentleman and a scholar, I’ll try it out after work.
