Another Google Maps Car Involved In Collision, Second Incident in Past Month

We just received these images from a reader out in Virginia, who spotted this Google Maps car parked on the side of the road after what appears to be a small traffic collision. Interestingly enough, this isn’t the first time we’ve seen a Google Maps car trade paint with someone else on the road. From what we can see, this was rather minor in comparison, but we hope everyone is okay.

Cheers Mike!

Looks like an Apple fan kicked it… 😉 flame on! 😀

  • magic9418

I rode my bike past that one it has been like that for a few weeks now…I was going to take a pic and send it in but didn’t

  • Jamael Hoosain

the driver was probably just following the google turn-by-turn directions verbatim “TURN LEFT INTO….THE CAR ON THE LEFT”

  • People probably see them and gawk so hard they smash into them

  • Azn_Android

I live in Reston VA and went to Centreville (about 15-20 minutes away) to go see it!

    • Mike

      Hah! Did you find it?

  • Bob Martin

It must have been some idiot on their iphone that caused the accident. Its usually the ones with a much lower intelligence that causes accidents and that would be iphone users

  • Josh Flowers

must have ran into a 404 error, Road Not Found.

  • MG

Maybe they decided to try map-quest and lost track of there location. They need to hire a Forza 3 driver. Then they can just nap and call it a day

  • TheFirstUniverseKing

Maps crashed, huh? I never thought getting RAM would be a problem.

  • FortitudineVincimus

This is news? Cars have accidents every second.. how does this matter?

  • Sven Enterlein

VA and DC have the worst drivers in the country:
I can witness that every day on the beautiful parking lot called I-270

  • New_Guy

Maybe the car needs a firmware update…

  • picaso86

Google needs to get it together…!

*just kidding… but they need better sensors…

  • calculatorwatch

Ha! Let’s hope their driverless cars get into fewer accidents than their street view drivers.

    • Matthew Merrick

Driverless car accidents (automated) : 0
Driverless car accidents (human control) : 1
Street view car accidents (human control) : 2

who thinks they should just let the street view cars drive themselves and be done with it? the human equation is obviously the weak link here.

  • We’re sorry but com.maps.google.car crashed (literally), would you like to navigate to the nearest repair shop?

  • derek connolly

Ya…but you should have seen the other guy…

  • derek connolly

Oracle has been ordered to pay these collision damages also.

    • Willard Potter

      I lol’d

  • JOel

The more you drive the greater chance to get in an accident.

  • Trueblue711

The sad part is that I’d be willing to bet that the collision was probably caused by the other driver and not the smart car.

  • Distracted driving maybe?

  • I don’t think their track record is too bad, considering they’ve been running cars almost everyday for a few years

  • Sp4rxx

It’s ok – all the money Oracle has to pay them in legal fees can be put back in to repairs for the vehicles – no worries! 😛

  • r0lct

I see the self driving algorithm need s a tweak.

  • #savetheimprezas?

  • Mike

lol, when I took these shots, I thought “the DL readers are going to have a field day with this.” #confirmed

    • Thanks! Good shots!

      • Mike

    • Sean

      where in VA was this?

      • Tyler Cameron

        This guy.

      • Mike

Centreville, right off Stone Rd. Fairfax County

  • James_Kernicky

Maybe this one didn’t have a driver and they were testing the new technology.

  • Well the other driver can’t say they he didn’t see it, not with that paint job.

  • balthuszar

where does one apply to become a gmaps car driver?

    • Gr8Ray

    • Jason Martino

you can find the application in a cereal box. Most likely Fruity Pebbles

  • CheeseMcGee

    Crap, Google Maps crashed again!?!

    • ChrisTraeger1

      Hey, it’s still in beta!

  • mustbepbs

I wonder if people target the cars to get on the street view. Probably with a big ****-eating grin as they plow right into it with their beaters.

    • tomn1ce

That won’t matter, their faces will be blurred out anyway….lol

  • chris125

Man they need to get some better drivers

    • they must outsource the drivers lol

      • SolipsisticPsychologist

Haha! Sadly I could actually see that being a possibility, even for this. I wonder if their remote controlled cars can data mine and harvest people’s private information from their unencrypted routers, like the they normally do with humans in the driver seat? I’m sure they’ve figured it out, even driverless cars need the ability to be unethical and criminal, despite paid off rulings.

  • TheFirstUniverseKing

Man, Apple really hates anything related to Android.

    • Masterminded

Where does it mention Apple anywhere?
Edit: nevermind note to myself get more sleep

      • mog386

Somebody took a drink from the super serious punch bowl today.

        • Mike

          lol, hilarious

      • Dragonbragon

Lols that really went over your head?

        • Masterminded

yup, too many trolls these days, it gets confusing

      • derek connolly

The other car was an apple

    • LOL I actually laughed.

  • Isaac

you can’t make an Omelet without breaking a few eggs…

    • JamesU513

      Watch Fight Club much? 😉

  • Tommy Thompson

    Clearly the work of Apple.

    • New_Guy

      Circa Tonya Harding

    • Matthew Merrick

lol, i thought the same thing.

  • Stewie

Oh boy, I can’t wait to see all the Street view Backpack collisions in store for us!

  • jjrudey

Looks like they hired some bad drivers. (although it could be the other person)

Maybe Microsoft hired some people to crash into Google cars.
