Best Buy Announces Pre-sale of the Galaxy SIII for Verizon, Sprint and AT&T – Starts Today

With all of the major U.S. carriers announcing pre-orders or launch dates for the Samsung Galaxy SIII yesterday, we were sort of surprised to have not heard from Best Buy. Well, we heard from them this morning. As of today, you can walk into a Best Buy store and pre-order the Android phone of the year from 3 carriers – Verizon, Sprint, and AT&T.

RadioShack is also doing preorders for SIII.

I pre-ordered mine through Best Buy. I looked at one of their sheets listing the options for verizon and other carriers. I saw verizon was getting both the 16/32gb while others were getting just the 16gb. The one thing i noticed was the other carriers have White and Pebble Blue as options whereas Verizon has White and Metallic Blue. What is this Metallic Blue?

  • Trevor

Long story short: Best Buy is evil, and I hate them.

  • workworkwork

can someone post the link to the BB pre-order page?

  • BeerguyOE

    Come on Costco!

  • J Dub

TELL ME ABOUT SHARED DATA AND TIERED PLANS ALREADY!!!!!!!

    • FortitudineVincimus

THEY ARE GONNA SUCK AND COST A LOT!!!!

  • http://aesirgaming.com John Cantrell

does this phone have the panoramic photo capture like the nexus?

    • FortitudineVincimus

      yes

  • zkdreads

does best buy charge the “upgrade fee” too

  • leo

So if I pre order from there can I still keep.my unlimited data?

    • soremekun

Yes. Tiered/shared data has not been introduced yet.

  • Buy This

So my Verizon upgrade is in early-mid December. Think there is ANY chance that they won’t put the “kill unlimited at upgrade time” plan into effect before then? *I already used a family member’s upgrade to grab a Bionic when my DX ran into trouble. So I am already on 4g but my parents are not* (may their glass cased iphones shatter)

    • FortitudineVincimus

no chance.. they said this summer and no way they will wait until December now that they announced it. Sorry.

      • veRdiKt

No we have our own system. Much easier to user

    • Matt Gondek

Of all the things Verizon takes their time with, making more money isn’t one of them…

    • nightscout13

You’re gonna have to wait till someone posts one on craigslist, and snag it that way, otherwise you will lose your unlimited if you upgrade in december. Verizon clearly stated the new Tiered ONLY options will be this summer.

  • FortitudineVincimus

Wasn’t there some promo we signed up for at BB a few months back where they offered like $50 back or something like that? I need to find it.

    • veRdiKt

when you activate your phone at best buy the consultant should print it out when they hit activate.

    • J Dub

      Forgot about this…

      • FortitudineVincimus

that alone could cover the cost of going from the 16gb to the 32gb

        • Sven Enterlein

If only AT&T did HAVE the 32GB version… Unless their red color magically stores 16GB :D

    • Destroythanet

Damn, you just reminded me that I signed up for this months ago. Thanks, bro!

  • Butters619

I’m considering being a dick and returning my One X, using this phone for a month, returning this phone, and repurchasing my One X.

Might as well make use of my Reward Zone Silver before it expires.

  • Alix8821

    KELLEX …

Does the RUMORED “pre-order and keep unlimited data” apply to Best Buy as well??? Never confirmed it for VZW anyways, BUT If it is true, I like dealing with Best Buy a lot better than VZW …

  • npomp

How about if you preorder today through BB, can you get double the data before verizon nixes it?! Now that would be great. More questions though:
    1. Then going off ‘soremekun’s’ question, how much do you have to put down?
    2. What is your return window, still 30 days with BB? But from when? Deposit or receipt of phone?
    3. And going off that, can you cancel a preorder if say the Dinc4g comes out?! God where is that phone… And what happens with your money, return, etc?!

  • slops

can someone enlighten me as to the benefit of buying this phone from bestbuy instead of the carrier’s store?

    • Tommy Thompson

Compared to Sprint you don’t have to worry about a Mail In Rebate. With Best Buy there are no MIR.

    • soremekun

While you’re there, you can pick up a fridge as well.

      • poeddroiduser

        Or a $100 HDMI cable

      • FortitudineVincimus

        bwaa ha ha LOL…

    • Butters619

If you signed up for Phone Freedom a few months ago you get $50 off your phone.

    • http://www.facebook.com/DigitalDP Daniel Peña

The two benefits I enjoy is that there are no mail in rebates as they handle them themselves and no restocking fee if you decide to return the phone. I believe VZW charges $40 or so something like that.

The insurance is considerably better for starters. You have the option of purchasing a monthly contract, or a contract for a certain term. Not to mention, the insurance isn’t farmed out through a third party like it is for carriers. Also, you have the option of purchasing buy back, where you pay an up front cost, then sell the phone back to best buy later. If its within six months of the original purchase date, you can earn up to 50 percent of the retail cost, not subsidized. Most of the time you make money in the end with buy back, and are able to buy the new phone without paying out of pocket.

  • r0lct

If you aren’t going to buy direct from the carrier you might as well just go to Amazon Wireless, I’m sure they’ll have the best price.

    • EC8CH

      I <3 Amazon

    • Tommy Thompson

Unless you utilize Bestbuy’s other options like buyback or their insurance…

      • r0lct

The problem there is Amazon usually has phones for $50 cheaper than carrier or BB, then BB charges you another $50 to be able to sell it back. So you’re paying $100 now to maybe net you another $20 later over market price.
I know this isn’t true for every device, but for a major (and unlocked) Android phone, I personally don’t think it’s worth it.

        • Diablo81588

Nonsense. You easily make double what you paid for the phone if you purchase buy back, as long as its within a year of the original purchase date. I’ve seen people make 500 bucks on a phone they paid 200 for on contract. Buy back is very different than trade in.

        • Tommy Thompson

I’ve never seen a phone on Amazon cheaper the day it’s released. Maybe a few weeks later, but not the day of.

  • soremekun

How much needs to be put down in order to pro-order?

    • Murphy

      Not sure about pro-ordering…

    • Tommy Thompson

      Usually $50

    • veRdiKt

      $50. just did mine

      • FortitudineVincimus

In person? did you pick a color and a GB size?

        • veRdiKt

Yes. I work there. Went in i’m doing hardware only no upgrade. Picked color, white, memory ,16gb. Got a print out saying I put $50 down. It says i’m getting it the 28th. I have a picture to prove it

          • Sven Enterlein

You’ll have to wait 3 more weeks?!?? :(

          • veRdiKt

I know :( more then enough time to sell my phones

          • Jon M

            @veRdiKt:disqus:do you have Verizon?

          • veRdiKt

            Yes why

          • Jon M

Just did the exact same thing at a Best Buy Mobile store, same estimated shipping date, same color, etc.—but I’m still paranoid I’ll be losing unlimited data. Since you work there, are you pretty sure we’ll be grandfathered in?

          • veRdiKt

Yes you will be until the new plan comes out

          • Jon M

Thanks for the clarification. Let’s just hope they don’t push the plan out while we’re waiting for delivery and force us onto it!

  • http://twitter.com/Galpdawg Galpdawg

does best buy honor NE2 credit?

    • r0lct

Pretty sure it’s a no for any 3rd part reseller.

    • FortitudineVincimus

Don’t they log into the VZW system, essentially, and see what you have coming to you? Kind of like Amazon or WireFly do? No?

      • TornadoRex

Sort of. It’s a Verizon system, but it’s different than the corporate Verizon stores use.

    • J Dub

No, but most 3rd party vendors are lower than VZW offers with the credit. They DO see if you can actually upgrade. If the upgrade date on your account hasn’t arrived then your order won’t go through.
