Yes. By the specs you should be able to see a Galaxy Nexus display a mile away. Of course it’s pentile, however every single reviewer said the AMOLED HD was the best screen on the market at the time other than the Rezound’s. We’re not seeing a lot of high resolution displays that aren’t pentile coming from anyone except HTC and Apple. However, my buddy has a Rezound and albeit a better display in just about every way, I can still see pixels.

Then why does the GPU of my Galaxy Nexus, which is pretty inferior compared to most other high-end handset GPUs, process 1080p video just fine albeit it eats the battery life? But, like I said, it’s a pretty old and inferior GPU. And The Tegra 2 and 3 can process a 1080p video and slap it on your HDMI HDTV without struggle. In fact, nVidia’s big claims with the Tegra series is that it can process 1080p video efficiently. If you need sources cited:
http://www.nvidia.com/object/tegra-superchip.html. Find me a single SoC manufacturer who says that their upcoming GPUs (muchless their current) that has an SoC in an upcoming flagship device that won’t be able to push 1080p video and I’ll concede.

If you can see pixels on a 4.65″ 720p then someone is ‘doing it wrong’ (read: ur display is not top-notch… let me guess, pentile OLED?)

It would scale up things like font so that you could read it… essentially taking (arbitrary numbers) twice the horsepower, and twice the battery juice to accomplish the same thing as a lower resolution display (which could get away with half the horsepower and use half the battery juice)

Pictures on the other hand, would look breathtaking.

Instead of putting the ‘beefy’ camera on the back, they could put it on the side, with internal folded optics, lots of depth to work with (ala the width of the phone)

If the screen is under 10″ I’ll take 720P please.

1080P will require more CPU/GPU horsepower… eating more precious battery life.

I want it. I’m even willing to sacrifice a super slim phone for a monster removable battery. Thicker phones fit my hands better anyway.

Why don’t they quit advancing in the wrong technology. We already have screens that are so freaking high in pixel density that we can’t see pixels from 6 inches away. Great. Fantastic. Now, why can’t we get batteries that last more than 4 hours of real use? We’re advancing in the wrong field. PUT R&D IN BATTERIES!!!!!!

It would be nice if they would indulge us with a battery size/capacity/efficiency arms race as well. Then sure, 1080p? Why not.
