DROID RAZR’s Smart Actions Application Hacked onto the DROID Bionic

DROID Bionic owners no longer need to be jealous of the DROID RAZR’s Smart Actions application. Thanks to iNsAnEmOd for sharing the apk, users can now download the actual Smart Actions app and load it as a third party app right onto your device. Smart Actions is Motorola’s way of trying to extend your battery and basically automate your life. By launching certain applications and settings when actions happen or you are at a certain place during the day, your device will react as you program it to. You can program the app to launch your favorite music playlist if you’re at the gym, or have it toggle on WiFi as soon as you arrive at home from your day at the office. It has received a lot of love from RAZR owners, so if you own a Bionic, be sure to give it a go and let us know what you think.

No root required. Install as you would any other non-market .apk.

I just installed it on my bionic and it’s not working or im doing something wrong

  • http://twitter.com/petekuhn peter kuhn

works nice on my Bionic.. neat.

  • Adrew007

I got the @ home trigger to work and change my ringer volume and wallpaper. So far no other triggers have worked.

  • Adrew007

Not all the actions seam to work.  The battery reminder never signaled after it fell below the set threshold.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Monzer-Kalaje/561564456 Monzer Kalaje

wow been searching for this app for ages THANKS ALOT .
Working good on my Atrix4g .

  • Jim

Didn’t work.  Installed fine and the application opens with out a problem.  However none of the triggers work.  I tested several, Plug into headphones, plug into dock, location changes, register with bluetooth device, and nothing changes.  Too bad.

  • Matthew Meibers

You are welcome Dana for this ;-)

    • http://twitter.com/iNsAnEmOd Dana Davis

Dude I swear I didn’t claim this. Ive been telling everyone I didnt do anything!! I just reuploaded the apk!

      • Josh Groff

You’re an accomplice to something awesome then.

      • Matthew Meibers

hehe that i found for you ;)

  • Junk

Installs/opens and can add actions but they don’t do anything. Can’t change time on timeframe. Stops responding.thought I’d try – cm9 pre alpha pics razr

  • ABerry5

One app I would absolutely love to have on my gnex… anyone know if people have gotten this to run on the gnex yet? Don’t talk to me about tasker, I don’t care about tasker, I want smartactions

  • dmagicp

i got it working on xoom with ics

  • GovGeek

Thanx DL! And iNsAnEmOd too! Curious how my GoogleTV might react.

  • Barlog

Anyone have a mirror for this? I cant seem to get it to download.

  • Flying Wonton

works on my DX ( yes my droid x ) <3

  • Russyjo

Tried out the “Car” sample rule. Seemed to work (it jacked up my volume when i connected to a BT car sterio). That’s the only thing it seems to have done on its own.

    • Russyjo

UPDATE: Some Triggers work for me. Example, switched from wifi connection trigger to location trigger and the rule activated.

  • jake creed

    works on droid 3

  • Darthbird1

Im having the same problem…The program runs but when i set up the rules nothing happens. Any ideas anyone?

  • Dime Baggins

I side-loaded on my Bionic and it doesn’t work.  I tested the time and headphone triggers and nothing happens . . .

  • Ns19981

Omfg tyvm developers hope u guys become very popular

  • smwandrie93

just tried on a droid x, droid x2, charge, bionic, s2, nexus, rezound, spectrum, and lucid, none of them allow you to set up a location such as work or home, because with the Razr it has a green plus sign in the upper right hand corner, with this it does not and thats the only way to set a location

    • http://twitter.com/iNsAnEmOd Dana Davis

      No it is not

  • Josh515

Works great on my Galaxy Nexus running AOKP 31! :)

  • androida

Out of curiosity do people actually use this?

  • http://www.tedpavlic.com/ Ted Pavlic

Or…. use one of the many existing apps that Moto ripped off to create “smart actions”, right? Why the fuss about the Moto branded one?

    • Michael Quinlan

Beats me.  Similar apps in the Play Store are more capable, even the free ones.

  • Russyjo

Runs on Bionic .902 but does not function. Situations do not start up unless triggers are removed and situation is run manually.

    • Dude

Yeah the programming is running on my phone, but it’s not actually working.

      • Dude

         *Program

        • Russyjo

          Rooted?

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Tony-Gultice/584049220 Tony Gultice

Seems to be working on my poor old Droid 2 Global…

  • Palmer Nyako

lol gonna try it for my sgs2 anyway hahaha

  • Jlebouton

Anyone tried this yet? I just installed, but cant seem to get it to work. I set up a few rules, but for example, I set it up to launch music with headphones. But when i plug my headphones, nothing. Also, i set it to remind me of a missed call, and again nothing. Am I missing something?

    • Dude

I can’t seem to get the headphones setting to work right either.

  • guard her

Tasker FTW….. oh sorry they ripped off your idea after one of there kids showed them tasker app 2 years ago. took long enough.

  • victor manso

it work on DROID CHARGE !

  • myandroid324

This is not needed if you own a razr maxx…….razr maxx owners attack!

  • NorCalGuy

Does anyone know if this was pulled from the gingerbread build or the leaked ics build?

    • http://twitter.com/iNsAnEmOd Dana Davis

      I have no clue….click my name..hehehe

      • NorCalGuy

Since you didn’t do it no point right….

    • kixofmyg0t

It was pulled from GB. It still uses the GB Blur theme and it FC’S on ICS.

  • NorCalGuy

Smart actions were cool on my RAZR because I never started down the path of wiping and putting roms on the phone so I never had to redo anything, but with my nexus I am wiping almost every day to check out the newest features and I don’t think I would want to set this up every time. When I did have my RAZR though this was one of my favorite features and was one of the few things holding me back when I did the trade in.

    • boybert

Why not use AppExtractor or ROM Toolbox to restore the settings for your apps from backup?

      • NorCalGuy

Sometimes I do but I feel like the roms sometime can get messed up when doing this especially when the dev calls for a full wipe.

        • Josh Groff

Usually restoring an app’s settings won’t cause problems. And most devs suggest a full wipe especially if coming from another ROM.

  • http://twitter.com/MyStroPro Matt Schaitel

This requires social location (another Motorola app) correct?  I’m just trying to help avoid confusion for those who may try and use this on other devices / roms.

    • Josh Groff

Maybe for the location triggers, it would explain why my Liberty Bionic isn’t working with locations.

      • MyStroPro

As far as I know, that is correct. If you are using location triggers, you have to had social location installed because it uses a process from that app.

  • Dave

    Link not working for me?

  • Droidlover45

People still own bionics? That’s non-Nexus

    • kixofmyg0t

Yes, we do. I wouldn’t trade it for anything but the RAZR MAXX too.

      • Josh Groff

The extended battery Motorola made for the Bionic is as close as I need it to be. I have big hands and the RAZR kind of feels too thin.

        • kixofmyg0t

Oh I love the extended battery. 2,880mAh of goodness right there. Second only to the RAZR MAXX.

I never wanted the RAZR because it’s TOO thin, but I do like the RAZR MAXX. It’s a good size.

          • Josh Groff

Isn’t the MAXX about the same thickness as the X2? That is a pretty decent size I guess.

          • kixofmyg0t

The RAZR MAXX is a couple mm taller and wider but thinner and lighter.

            8.99mm vs 9.90mm.

So yeah its about the same size. But has that nice giant battery…which btw we’re gonna see more phones from Moto with that battery. Trust me on that.

          • Josh Groff

I’m hoping we can get to the point where smartphones last ~ 3 days of decent use, gotta make them screens suck less battery or throw in monster batteries.

          • kixofmyg0t

Well we cant. Cuz when a phone has a power saving display it gets THRASHED by tech blogs and fanboys for being the worst display ever in the history of man. Regardless of the fact that its not as bad as they make it sound.

So, because of the fanboys we NEED 1080p 4″ screens that suck alot of power by themselves and require a beefy power hungry GPU just to display even simple things. We’re gonna get to the point of needing 4k and 5kmAh batteries to get battery life of current qHD phones.

I think 720p is fine for screens up to 7″.

  • http://twitter.com/iNsAnEmOd Dana Davis

Hello in the Forums I’m known as “iNsAnEmOd”. I did not do this. I got the apk from a friend and put it out for the people.

    • Tyrian

Do you realize what you’ve done??!?!

      • http://twitter.com/iNsAnEmOd Dana Davis

        What do you mean?

        • Josh Groff

Helped make the world a better place I’m guessing. We Bionic users are eternally grateful.

          • http://twitter.com/iNsAnEmOd Dana Davis

            Uhhh…Thanks Dude..I guess

          • Josh Groff

My thanks was a bit over the top.

          • http://twitter.com/iNsAnEmOd Dana Davis

I’ve heard all kinds of ‘thanks you’s’ from my work..but this is not Mine

          • Josh Groff

But you uploaded the apk, that’s something. Even thought it seems minor.

  • http://profiles.google.com/jeremy.sheehan Jeremy Sheehan

Llama also works pretty well. Certainly not as robust as smart actions, but does the job for me.

  • Jonzey231

Haha tried it on a Nexus to no surprise it force closes quite often lol.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000106808261 Keith Sumner

Was that an attempt at a Bionic trolling? Because you failed miserably, this app wasn’t made to work on your device.

      • http://twitter.com/iNsAnEmOd Dana Davis

Not true, a friend of mine got it working on his Gnex

        • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000106808261 Keith Sumner

With hacking I’m sure, but like I said it wasn’t MADE for a Nexus.

          • http://twitter.com/iNsAnEmOd Dana Davis

            There was no hacking

          • Jonzey231

Haha no sir that was not an attempt at all whatsoever at trolling lol. It was just an observation, like the time I saudered an NFC equipped battery to my original Droid x battery connectors (via wiring, not a direct connection) to see if I could get google wallet to magically work. That also failed miserably. Lol. I just like to see what I can do.

          • http://twitter.com/iNsAnEmOd Dana Davis

Well….at least I got Smart Actions on the Bionic for those using one

          • Mack

So far it’s working on my Droid X2 as well (running cm7)

          • http://twitter.com/iNsAnEmOd Dana Davis

            Sweeeet

    • kixofmyg0t

Wait a sec……you installed a part of Blur on your “G-Nex”? Isn’t your “G-Nex” supposed to catch on fire now? Cuz you know all parts of Blur are completely worthless and are the anti-christ and all.

Btw it FC’s on my Bionic running Gummy. Works fine on stock system. I think it just doesn’t like ICS.

What about the smart actions from the RAZR ICS leak? Anyone have any info about that?

  • Dr_Buttballs

    This isn’t the Galaxy Nexus.

    • Josh Groff

       You don’t say?

      • Dr_Buttballs

Correct, I typed. Very observant on your part. Good job!

    I DIDNT do IT

  • http://twitter.com/iNsAnEmOd Dana Davis

    I didn’t do it

  • Azndan4

Try “AUTOMATEIT” on the market. Its very easy to use and I imagine it does just as much if not more than this app. These days I don’t trust any software created by Motorola.

    • kixofmyg0t

I tried automateit pro, it’s not as easy as smart actions.

  • Michael_NM

Since most people think I’m a smart ass, I immediately downloaded this to get more action. Thank you Droid Life!

  • No_ka_oii

“or have it toggle on WiFi as soon as you arrive at home from your day at the office”

How’s that again? It’s only location aware if WIFI is already pre-enabled. Which sucks.

    • Jeradc

yep. I’d like to turn wifi on/off when I leave my house, or arrive. And cannot.

    • Ssalem1

No, it knows where u are based on location services (data, cell towers, etc). it doesnt need wifi to know where u are. You are the kind of numbnut that shouldnt own a phone

      • No_ka_oii

While I understand that the phone uses GPS and aGPS for location awareness it also uses wifi data to help triangulate as well.

Also when adding an action on my phone (Droid RAZR) with the Wifi turned off and set it to be based on my location it states:

Weird. My phone tells me “Wifi must be ON for the location trigger to accurately detect where you are located. (Turn ON or Cancel)”.

So while it’s easy to hide behind the anonimity of the internet to call people names for your own ego boost I would make sure you have more data before making accusations.

  • Mike

I used Settings Profiles to do this stuff on my X. Then I got a Razr Maxx. It can’t do everything that the other one could, but it’s pretty nice.

  • Eric-cheez

if yuor bionic is running ICS | AXIOM rom, can we still use ths or is it gingergblur specific? (i already have Tasker so there is no need forthis but i was just curious)

    • http://profiles.google.com/jeremy.sheehan Jeremy Sheehan

OT, I know, but how is this ROM working out for you?  I installed it a month ago, but took it off almost immediately b/c too many of my apps didn’t work. Is this past Alpha now?

      • http://twitter.com/bboyairwreck Eric Chee

Lol well… I still get occasional loss in data connectivity but it doesnt bother me that much since it only a few times a week. A simple reboot fixes that. Its a solid build of ICS. I have all my apps working fine except for Youtube. which is quite the bummer but that is the only app i have trouble with. anything that needs HW acceleration will not work i.e. video rec, google goggles, chrome beta. While i think it is more beta than alpha, itll be awhile til we get a COMPLETELY stable build cuz Droid Th3ory broke his bionic =/ but hopefully since 9.0.4 came out plus Android 4.0.4 and the ICS for the razr, we should see some updates sooner or later. lemme know if u have any other ?’s

        • kixofmyg0t

YouTube doesn’t work? You should try Gummy.

        • King Howie

im running Axiom (on top of the .904 update) on my bionic. youtube will work if you go into settings and enable hq

  • ocdtrekkie

Awesome. Maybe if we’re lucky the ICS build for Bionic will have it built-in.

  • LiterofCola

Smart Actions truly is a cool feature.  I’d like to see more functions implemented.

  • Jareth92

Can you run this on the droid 3?

    • kixofmyg0t

      You should be able to.

  • Mike Crissinger

Tasker does everything this does and more.

    • kixofmyg0t

Yes but Tasker isn’t nowhere near as easy to use. You have to admit that.

      • Mack

Very true, I just tried this out on my X2 and it was a breeze to use. The same definitely cannot be said of Tasker.

      • Michael Quinlan

So, it *IS* near as easy to use?

        • kixofmyg0t

          Context escapes you I see.

Here, let me break it down to words you can understand.

Smart Actions is much easier to use than Tasker.

          Did I lose you?

          • Michael Quinlan

Thank you for confirming that you actually meant the opposite of what you originally said.

          • kixofmyg0t

You forgot to turn on your southern translator Mr. Grammer Nazi.

  • T4rd

Hmm, thought the Bionic already had that.

If you want a much more robust (and a bit more complicated) version of this.  Get Tasker in the Play Store.

    • http://twitter.com/Alanxenos ChiDev

Love tasker, but, n00b warning, it is TOUGH to learn. Very cluttered interface in places, but once you figure it out, you will love it.

    • kixofmyg0t

Tasker isn’t easy to use at all. 95% of Android users wouldn’t be able of make heads or tails of it.

      • Michael Quinlan

I think 95% is way too high.  But I’ll admit that Tasker is far more complex than Smart Actions, just like a racing boat is far more complex than a dinghy.

        • kixofmyg0t

I think 95% is about right. Think about how many Android phones are out there…..now think about the fraction of users with a “G-Nex”(who are arguably the most likely to use all the whiz bang apps) which is what 0.6%? Most of those people(according to a recent DL poll) didn’t even root.

I work with alot of non tech interested people, one of which went back to his iPhone 4 because Android was “too hard to use plus my wife has a iPhone”. Out of the 253 people in my troop I am the only one(besides my team who I teach all the time) who even knows what Android 4.0 is. I still have yet to see anyone in my entire Squadron with a Galaxy Nexus or even a phone with a custom ROM(besides my team). The fact of the matter is MOST…. and I do mean a overwhelming majority….of Android users would be confused to the point of rage quit with Tasker.

          • Michael Quinlan

Perhaps you’re right.  I used to provide in-house support for a 250-person company, but now work more with tech-minded people.  Apparently I have lost sight of the fact that most people aren’t programmers.  And I’ll admit that people without any programming experience are likely to have a difficult time with Tasker’s learning curve.

Regardless, I think Smart Actions is great, if for no other reason than it exposes the average Joe to the concept of having their smart phone be… well, smart.

          • kixofmyg0t

Just look at the amount of Android phones out in the wild….. Tens of millions. Compared to less than 250,000 Tasker downloads (Google Play lists it as “100,000+ downloads).

Over 100k is alot of people, but a(very) small part of the pie. I’m too lazy ATM to do the real math so I just said 95%.
