Wednesday Poll: Spend More Time Streaming Media or Playing Games?

Our Android phones and tablets are becoming go-to entertainment devices whether we are on the move, lying in bed, or lost a battle with the wife for TV remote supremacy. With Netflix, Hulu, and a number of popular games finding their way to the platform along with HD screens, why wouldn’t you want to use your phone more? The games are console-quality now, select handsets are receiving HD feeds from movie services, and competing music stores keep one-upping each other. It’s a good time to be obsessed with your smartphone.

What takes up more of your time though? Are you a constant gamer or do you pass the time streaming video or music? Favorite game or media service?

    For me it’s
    Music > Games > Video

I just can’t sit back and watch something on such a small screen. I’ll gladly hover over the phone and play it like a Gameboy, but watching something other than a short clip on a phone seems pointless to me.

  • Xboxkid

Only spend more time on games because I’m still rockin’ a D-inc… lol

  • Raven

As I never “stream” anything, I would definitely have to say playing games.  Now if you asked me about just listening to music or watching movies downloaded to my 32gb MicroSD card that would be a whole different answer.

  • viewthis74

i don’t play games on my phone. there’s nothing wrong with playing games on your phone i just don’t do it. not into it. it doesn’t tickle my fancy.

When I’m out and bored, I spend more time playing games on my Android. I don’t even stream much on my phone. Nor do I use the internet much. Its just not a satisfying experience compared to what you get when using a PC.

  • Tcinfantino

There should be an option to vote for both.  I watch movies, music videos, and listen to Slacker on my Rezound.  I also spend hours playing games, reading Kindle books, and browsing the internet as well.  I know that I would suffer severe withdrawal if I didn’t have my phone.

I still have yet to see the appeal of gaming on a smart phone. Streaming music or Netflix, using Facebook or reading many media-rich articles – now that’s a different story. The huge screen of the Galaxy Nexus really pays off.

Can’t beat unlimited data plans…..15-20gb/month on netflix while working and some times pandora…on the VZW G-Nexus….oh and some games when I want to kill the remaining battery juice quickly to swap batteries before I leave the office…

  • GreenMeansGo

Great image choice. Theme song is my main ringtone. I’m the ghost with the most!

  • drinksprite

You lucky bastards and your unlimited. I still don’t have a smart phone, and I feel like I have little incentive to. 2gb wouldn’t even come close to meeting my needs.

  • Anonymous

I never touched over 3GB of data with my iPhone 4S. However, with my galaxy nexus I’m over 5GB already. I stream music mostly. love that LTE

Along with that 10501 texts as of today and 30 minutes out of my 700 minute calling plan. lol

I’d spend more time watching movies if the last Netflix update hadn’t crippled it.  Even on WiFi, the audio and video are way out of sync.

  • Rodys Gonzalez

All about the streaming; Hulu+, mopvideos, sidereel, pandora, Spotify, slack radio; etc!;.. maybe some Netfilix..  Go RAZR!.. :)

    Grooveshark FTW.

What about and answer for those of us that have a life..

    “Neither – I have a life”

    • Vonny571

How about: “Neither, I spend all my free time trolling droid-life.”

  • GCurry

Don’t play games anymore, except occasionally to see what it is, then delete.

Am unlimited on the Verizon Thunderbolt, so don’t really know or care how much data I use, but it is all Pandora streaming in the car every.single.day.

    I use 11 to 15GB a month streaming Netflix…..

    Media all day

  • Anonymous

    And the battery…..suffers.

  • Anonymous

I’m pretty much always playing games on my phone if I’m using it. And it’s a Galaxy Nexus….. so you know I’m using it.

My tablet usage is something like: 40% web browsing or taking notes, 25% e-reader usage (often with music simultaneously), 15% Netflix or downloaded movies, 10% gaming and 10% other usage.

My phone usage is 40% messaging or communication of some kind, 20% reference use (Googling stuff or using shopping apps), 25% music*, 10% gaming and 5% video streaming.

A couple hours of Netflix will nuke a phone battery completely whereas my Xoom can go almost all day. In any case I find visual entertainment to be very much a secondary use of both of them.

*In reality music is probably way higher than that but it’s almost always while doing something else. The numbers had to add up to 100% though. You get the point.

  • Anonymous

Well my captivate is getting a little old for the new games, so stream music it is

  • Jakestorms

This should have included on a phone call to see if hardly anyone ever uses the phone on their device all that much anymore.

    • Tcinfantino

Wait..what?  My smartphone can make calls to?  That is awesome, another cool feature I didn’t know about.  :P  In truth I think I usually only use 100-150 minutes of the 450 minute plan.

  • Anonymous

Definitely music, i know it may not be much for some people, but thanks to 4G and streaming high quality over Google Music, I had done 7 GB of data.

    • Anonymous

7GB? I did 18gb last month, google music A LOT in the car, at school, etc.

      • Anonymous

That’s why I said it won’t be as much. I stream google music through my work computer. I love that service so much.

      • http://twitter.com/jheyneman James Heyneman

I’m at 13GB on my third week of the billing cycle and I have not once been in an LTE market this month.

It’s probably because I set my phone to backup the entire DCIM and TitaniumBackup folder to my DropBox and my ftp server.  It runs a backup and syncs the changes every night.

        • Anonymous

I have been hitting 30-50 gigs a month lately.. being on the road I tether a lot. And I actually pay for the tethering as well.

    • John Mougey

i average around 6-8gb monthly. i like to stay on 3g constantly and use my unlimited plan for all its worth.

  • Anonymous

I pretty much never do either so it was a tough choice.

  • http://www.youtube.com/kimirPORTALS kimir

I found an app that can use different music players for Google Music. I wuv it. It’s from t3hh@xx0r. Google Music Sniper or something.
