Standard Galaxy Nexus Battery is Half Off From Verizon, Now Just $19.99

Galaxy Nexus accessories are hard to come by these days and are mostly sold out at VZW stores and online. One that is still available though, and at a decent price is the standard battery. Normally $40, you can grab it from Verizon today for just $19.99. With LTE continuing to be a battery hungry animal, you can never go wrong with having a couple of spare batteries sitting around. I will say that the stand alone battery charger that I picked up on launch day is one of my best purchases of the last few months. It’s too bad that it is sold out as well.

CyanogenMod 9 Music Player to Feature Custom Controls and Themes

by: | posted 12.29.11 | Apps, News

Having a new CyanogenMod means there will be a ton of new awesome features available for users.  One of the soon-to-be released additions is a completely redone music player.  The developer behind the newest player spoke with The Verge and gave some interesting details about the upcoming app.  In the application, you will be able to set up shake controls for skipping songs and other settings, swipe gestures, and even a complete theme engine for people to pimp out their player however they see fit.

You have to give it up to the CM boys.  They got it going on.  No word as to when it will be baked into CM officially, but word is that it will also make its way to the Android Market as a stand alone for all you non-root users too. We’ll keep you posted.

by: | posted 12.29.11 | News

We are always a sucker for a good infographic, so when the folks over at BlueStacks sent us their “Mr. Android 2011″ we had to share. This isn’t your normal breakdown of Android stats, but is a look at the male species and how it interacts with the Android platform on a daily basis. What color hair they have, where they are located, if it’s for work or play, and what kinds of shirts they wear. Enjoy!

Custom CM9 ROMs Becoming More Stable For DROID2 Global and DROIDX

by: | posted 12.29.11 | News, Root

We have been searching around the Interwebz trying to make sure everyone is able to enjoy Ice Cream Sandwich as much the next person.  The underground developers are working hard to bring CyanogenMod 9 to as many devices as possible and the DROID 2 Global is the newest phone on the list.  It may not be daily driver stable, but at least we know that Moto’s locked hardware is still receiving love from the community.

Have any DROIDX owners been enjoying the EncounterICS ROM we posted a week ago?  Then make sure you download the newest beta version which has been receiving tons of love from the community. It now has working MMS, but still lacks camera functionality.

Good news for Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 LTE owners! If you accept the latest 351MB update that includes TouchWiz, you can root it with the exact same root patch that you applied after initially purchasing the tablet and also after receiving the last update. It’s as simple as downloading a .zip file, dropping it onto your device’s storage, booting into recovery and then applying it. Thanks for keeping that wide open, Samsung.

by: | posted 12.29.11 | News

Just in case you weren’t ready to accept our report last night that Verizon has plans to institute a $2 “convenience fee” for debit and credit transactions associated with paying your bill on January 15, they have confirmed it. It does indeed start on the 15th of next month and will affect those that make “single bill payments” via the phone or online. Big Red wants to be clear that you have a number of options to avoid the fee, one of those being autopay.

Here are all of your options to avoid the fee:

  1. Electronic check online (My Verizon Online, My Verizon Mobile/Handset). Fee waived.
  2. Electronic check via telephone. Fee waived.
  3. Enrollment in AutoPay using credit/debit/ATM card or electronic check; fee does not apply
  4. Online from the customer’s home-banking service provider website; fee does not apply.
  5. Credit/debit/ATM card, electronic check or cash at a Bill Payment Kiosk, Panel or with a representative at a Verizon Wireless Communications Store; fee does not apply.
  6. Use of a Verizon Wireless Gift Card or Verizon Wireless device Rebate Card to pay a bill in-store, online or by telephone; fee does not apply
  7. Paper check or money order mailed to the VZW remit address on customer’s bill; fee does not apply.

And there you have it.
