Download: HD Netflix For Verizon 4G LTE Galaxy Nexus

The good folks over at XDA have brought a working HD Netflix application to the Verizon 4G LTE Galaxy Nexus.  It could quite possibly be the same app you would find on the DROID RAZR which also came stock with the HD version of the app.  You should probably uninstall any other Netflix you have loaded so they don’t clash and then install this as you would any other 3rd party app.  Enjoy some HD Pawn Stars.

Download:  Netflix_HD.apk

Via: XDA

Cheers Eric!

Has anyone gotten this to play a video lately?  It worked on my GNex before installing AOKP, and now I’m unable to play videos because I’m interrupted by auto update prompts.  I’ve searched the forums and found no answers.  Any of you smart people know how to fix this?

  • Juan Chiblomie

Found out how to get rid of the clipping, you need to switch OFF ‘overscan’ in the TV menu settings, it will look like this:

The Netflix in the Market has support for 4.x devices and hides the buttons now. It also looks pretty HD to me.

People hating on the nexus because they :
    A. Cant afford one
    B. Stuck with a crappy phone for 2 years
    C. Bitter because your ugly n have no friends n no life

Or… they’re just “non-conformists” who just can’t possibly have what other people want, and think they’re special because they didn’t get what other people got. It’s like vegetarians, nobody cares what they do and don’t eat, but they always act like they’re special because they don’t eat meat.

        • Dude

Or they buy what they like.

  • Eazy

Theres one huge difference in this app and the market one- you get HD quality no matter the signal ive been streaming episodes of the league in HD with only 1 bar on 3g

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=25001493 Hank Godwin

What good is HD when it isn’t full screen?

  • strykes

Hate to break this to those complaining about the numerous G-Nex posts, but it’s an extremely popular  device on this site and many other sites right now. Kellex and crew are catering to their audience. What do you expect?

Also, I got my Nexus on the first day and I absolutely love it.

Anyway, keep up the great work, DL

  • http://twitter.com/kyriancat Kyrian

This version doesn’t seem to be working for me. Perhaps it’s an issue with running an AOSP 4.0.3 ROM, as the Market version runs fine.

Ah well. I stream most movies off my home PC using Plex anyways, so my Netflix account doesn’t see much use these days anyways.

    • Josh Redmore

Yes, it works on 4.0.2, but not 4.0.3.  Back to the market version for me too.

      • http://twitter.com/kyriancat Kyrian

Ah, good to have outside confirmation. Ah well, doubt it’ll be overly long before there’s an official 4.0.3 anyways.

Rick: “I don’t know much about these smartphones. Let me bring in an expert.”
Expert: “You know Rick, there’s a lot of demand for this phone. There was no real advertising and everybody wants them. At retail they, if you can find one of these, go for $649.99.”
Rick: “Alright, thanks man.” (Turns to Joe Schmoe) “So what do you want for it?”
Joe Schmoe: “Well you heard the expert. $649.99.”
Rick: “I can’t do that. I gotta make a profit.”
    Joe Schmoe: “How about $500.”
Rick: “No, I can’t do that. Tell you what. I’ll give you fifty bucks – IN CASH.”
Joe Schmoe: “You got a deal!”

    Rinse and repeat.

I don’t see any difference in this from the current market app I was running…………….going back to the more current market app.

    • Ed

It does appear to be a little clearer to me, though that said you do lose the full screen use as the buttons become gray dots like they did before rather than have it go completely full screen.

    • Anonymous

HD HD HD HD…it works…market app on GNEX did not do HD

  • Junk7213

If you have Auto-Update enabled, it recognizes this as an old version and just updates it back to the regular one available in the Market.

    • Anonymous

thats impossible because its not from the market or linked to it…mine didnt do that

    • Anonymous

scratch that…now that I’ve downloaded and installed the file on this post – i went to the market and looked up netflix and it recognized that it was installed and had the update option, however, it does not show up on my “my apps” list

    • Anonymous

CRAP! It does show up on the “my apps” list now with an update, i still have “update automatically” by default but i unchecked that in netflix – sorry for the stupid runaround :)

  • TROLOLOL

hi guys how do i mount my nexus to my xp machine?

    • Anonymous

Step 1. Place Nexus on top of XP machine.

Your Nexus is now mounted to your XP machine.

  • Granted

Do you think you’ll only get page hits if you talk about the damn Nexus in every post!? That either speaks to greed or a lack of good content when not whorebeasting the damn phone. I can’t wait to see a post about how cool the phone’s calculator is next, or “Hey look! It has an on/off button, more on this after the break, now enjoy these advertisements!”.

    • rcpa

Actually, now that you mention it, the Nexus calculator is pretty cool.  You just swipe to the side to switch between the number pad and the advanced panel (sin, cos, ln, log, etc).

    • http://twitter.com/kyriancat Kyrian

I don’t believe that I understand your argument. This is a legitimate (if short) article about a modified bit of software for the GNex, much like similar articles for, say, getting Netflix on the Droid X back in the day.

Is your issue that this is an article about the GNex being posted on Droid Life?

First and foremost, the site devs could post articles about sheep if they wanted to, its their website.

Secondly, an awful lot of people either switched from a Droid device to the Nexus, or now carry both, and are quite used to getting their news here. The GNex is a major device, DL would be silly to not cover it, even if it IS missing the Droid brand name.

      • http://twitter.com/Justinwrites Justin True Anderson

Thank you.  Because if they only talked about the RAZR how much news would there be really?  I mean, lets be honest here, there IS a reason we don’t talk more about the Bionic, Rezound, and Razr.  They don’t generate news because not much changes there very quickly because… they’re not Dev phones.  And I could stand a few more sheep articles.

        • http://twitter.com/kyriancat Kyrian

Well, if we push hard enough, maybe the site will start posting articles about how we’re all just sheep… If you really want some more sheep articles. :)

And it’s not just that the GNex is a Dev phone that makes the news come fast. It’s a NEW device, AND a Dev device, AND it’s a completely new version of Android OS. So it’s a triple whammy. The news will start slowing down eventually.

And it’s the first Google Experience device on VZW, so add that to the cause for all the fervor…

I understand that a lot of the frustration behind the “GTFO GNex” posts stems from not having access to the device that’s being posted about, I really truly do get that. I’ve had that envy before myself, mostly in response to following RootzWiki on Twitter and seeing all the new ROMs and Kernels come out for devices I’d never have a chance to get…

Don’t get me wrong, I’d LOVE for there to be rapid changes regarding my Bionic, but there’s just not that much going on. Most of the ROMs are ironed out, there’s only changes every now and again, and most of those don’t warrant a post by DL. I get my Bionic news from following the devs on Twitter, and most of THEM are working on GNexii now, so… What can you do?

  • BiGMERF

  • http://twitter.com/Transhawn Tran-Shawn Yu

… this may be “hd” but it doesnt extend to the entire screen… you can even see in the screenshot, the menu buttons are still showing (the faded dots)

uninstalling this and going back to the market netflix app…

    • http://twitter.com/RyanSMiller Ryan Scott Miller

Yeah, I prefer FULLscreen to HD. When they figure out how to get the HD to hide the buttons then I’ll switch.

      • Dude

I’ve read that 720p HD movies don’t play correctly on the Nexus’s HD screen. Now Netflix HD doesn’t play correctly on an HD screen? What’s point of this HD screen again?

        • Anonymous

I can play 720p videos in fullscreen (no buttons) in the YouTube app. Looks beautiful – better than any phone out there.

  • Anonymous

I cant believe anyone still has netflix.  I wasted my money for over a year on it till I knocked some sense into myself.  They have the most horrible selection of movies I’ve ever seen in my life.

Id rather get Slingbox HD and call it a day.

    • http://twitter.com/xsicRagex sicRage

you don’t realize how much they have to pay for those movies do you? Streaming is still widely unregulated and studios charge a ridiculous premium. you want better movies? refer more people..

    • Anonymous

i guess if you want new movies it’s not a good choice but I love watching documentaries and for $8 a month its the greatest thing ever. I still have over 50 documentaries i have to go through. I’m happy

      • Anonymous

I highly recommend the “7” series. A documentary about 7 year old children in England in 1964 who are followed every 7 years as they grow up…goes till they are 49 years old. Really fascinating!

        • Anonymous

Thanks. I will check it out

    • http://twitter.com/starnovsky Stan Tarnovsky

There are people who would rather waste $10/month for Netflix than $100/month on cable TV. Me included. Netflix is exclusively serving all my movie needs for last 8 years.

    • Ed

Can’t bring myself to use Netflix; can’t understand why others do. That’s ok, I don’t think y’all are silly or anything for using them; I just can’t understand why anyone would do business with a company that holds its customers and potential customers in such utter contempt.

If you’ve been around a few years, you know Netflix elbowed its way into the market with popups on PCs.  They went out of their way to just annoy the heck out of us.  We got popup blockers and they found ways to get around them.  That’s not good advertising — or at least I wouldn’t have thought so — that’s flipping the bird to your potential customers.  You WILL look at our ads, like it or not.

Even now they use popups.  And on newer Verizon phones, they have an app preloaded that cannot even be uninstalled.

But, hey, apparently it worked. I’d have thought everyone would avoid any company that was so hamhanded in its marketing, but apparently it does work.  Just not for me.  I’m under no illusions — I’m sure they’ll do just fine without me — but I’ll not do business with a company like that.  I don’t want movies that badly.

          • http://twitter.com/kyriancat Kyrian

Because they don’t have access to one, simple as that. And I can truly understand, it’s a kickass device, and having it pop up in front of me constantly if I didn’t have it would, honestly, annoy me too… But I’ve kept that to myself in the past.

As it was, my finances BARELY fell into the right place to allow my purchase of one, one week to either side and I’d have been out of luck until the next week.

And I’d have been a sad, SAD panda, watching all this GNex news without a GNex to play with.

          • Dude

Not very hard. Every action has an equal and opposite reaction. Go look back at the comments in the Bionic articles.
