Galaxy Nexus Prices: Still $299 at Verizon Stores, $289 with Accessory Bundle at Costco

With no release date in sight for the Galaxy Nexus, we at least have a solid idea of what the price will be on contract. Verizon shelf slips are most definitely listing the phone at $299 on new 2-year contract, something we have expected it to be for quite some time. You will have to trust me that full retail is $649, it just couldn’t fit into the picture.

In related pricing news, we have word out of Costco’s camp finally. According to a reader that stopped by his local store, the display model had a price of $289 attached that includes an accessory bundle. What was in the bundle? From what he saw in store, it’s not as eye-popping as some of the previous bundles we have seen and should get you a “leather pouch, car charger, and screen protectors.”

Still no word on a release date. Cross your fingers that Verizon’s 4G LTE network holds up for the next 24 hours or so and you never know what could happen.

Cheers Eugene and Harish!

Do you have a quota to post a minimum number of useless Nexus posts daily?

    • Dominick DeVito

      is yours one of them?

  • http://www.facebook.com/borgey401 Andrew Borges

100% sure the network has absolutely NOTHING to do with the delay. I also know that Verizon was for once not the cause of this delay.

    • http://twitter.com/bmt626 Brandon Taylor

      any proof to that statment

    • Anonymous

100% sure you will post no evidence of this..

Just called my Verizon store and was told that they have only received the dummy units so far.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Rad-Stevens/783228723 Rad Stevens

Also a friend/ best buy mobile employee said last night her boss had her set up the galaxy nexus dummy phone display for release today. When she arrived at work today, her boss said it has been delayed until the 11th. The 11th is a Sunday, kind of weird..

    • http://twitter.com/geoffcalver Geoff Calver

Apparently it’s become a thing to release new phones on Sundays lately.

I read somewhere yesterday that a lot of big releases have been on Sundays. Don’t know why except that it doesn’t interfere with people’s work schedules? Strange date, for sure. I’m going to call around to local, authorized retailers since it sounds like some of them have units and haven’t heard that the 9th is no longer a no go.

  • http://twitter.com/geoffcalver Geoff Calver

Also, full retail price in Canada is $649. Not bad. Hoping it’s the same here since American Dollar and Canadian Dollar are pretty much 1-1.

I didn’t realize “Until death do we part” applied to my OG phone too…

  • http://twitter.com/geoffcalver Geoff Calver

Forbes just released article saying tomorrow is release date.

I’d take it with a grain of salt, though. I think they’re relying on old info. But maybe, just maybe, they’re correct?

  • CharlesHussell

I confirmed with Verizon that you can upgrade your phone through Costco and keep unlimited data.  I found this out about 20 mins too late on Black Friday. Was gonna get the Rezound for $50 but was worried about the unlimited not carrying over and by the time I found out it was too late.

All you have to do is call Verizon after you activate your phone and they will switch you back.My friend in Tallahassee was told by the salesperson he uses all the time the Nexus will be $199.  No one else seems to be confirming this though.

    • Anonymous

Verizon sales reps are idiots.  Never listen to anything they say…I mean ANYTHING.  If one of them says “My name is Frank”, his name is not Frank.  Call him Leslie.

Hello, this is Peggy. How may I help you???

  • Anonymous

After this is all over I expect Verizon to publish a manual on “How Not to Release a Device”.  What a frustrating experience this has been.  Meanwhile I can’t even take phone calls on my OG Droid anymore.  :(

  • http://twitter.com/Payaso_113 Alberto Del Rio

This is turning me off. A few weeks ago i was excited and couldnt wait to get the nexus. Now Im thinking ill just wait for something better. :-/

    • TROLOLOL

and when something better comes out, there will be something even better that comes out, and when you wait for something even better to come out, there will be something even better than the something even better you were waiting to come out and when that something even better than something even better comes out you’ll be waiting for something even better than something even better than something even better. damn, lost my train of thought.

      • Anonymous

nah we’re just gonna wait for something better that comes out on time, i.e within one month of announcement/hyping it up.

  • db

Is that Costco’s or Verizon’s pricing details in the image?

    • http://twitter.com/simp1istic simp1istic

Verizon, you can’t match it up with the title??

    • http://www.facebook.com/jeffhamstra Jeff Hamstra

price is 299, so its verizon.

    • TROLOLOL

well, if the article states that costco’s pricing is $289.99 on a 2 year contract and verizon’s pricing is $299.99 on a 2 year contract and the image shows $299.99, i would conclude that it would be verizon’s pricing details. it’s elementary, my dear watson.

Its pretty clear this phone is coming out December eleventy. Everyone stop worrying.

    • Anonymous

I figure I have waited a while so whats another couple days…still it kind of sucks.  And I am almost positive it is coming out in December.

      • Christephor

the only problem with that is whats gunna happen when teh 13-15th comes around and they say just a few more days like theve been doing

  • Cubs0601

First ryan will still never get a nexus

  • Anonymous

Any idea about Amazon or Sam’s Club?

  • Christopher Riner

On a side note, poor Kellex.  He can’t make a frickin’ nexus post about anything without a bunch of people yelling at him telling him to stop posting nexus stuff just for hits.  I don’t know about the rest of you but I am johnny five, and I need input.   IIIIIIINNNNPUUUUUUUUUTTTTTTTTT.

Wow. You were doing fine until the Dr. Pepper reference. I get what you mean by the “pepper  too” but that was weird.

  • Cam

Has anyone seen displays popping up at stores yet?

  • HerbieDerb

Why do I keep clicking on these articles expecting a different outcome?!

  • http://twitter.com/geoffcalver Geoff Calver

Curious why it doesn’t show full retail price. I’m planning on selling my iPhone 4S after picking it up to cover the cost but would love to know if it’s the rumored $650 or $800.

I’d assume it’s further down on that shelf slip, so why not take a shot of the whole damn thing?

  • tjmonkey15

Please release tomorrow, please release tomorrow, please release tomorrow.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Rad-Stevens/783228723 Rad Stevens

Hey Kellex if they get their 4G problems resolved today, any chance some Verizon stores release the Nexus tomorrow?

  • Christopher Riner

The price isn’t surprising.  Well, the costco one is.  I don’t have a costco within peeing distance so I don’t know from experience, but Ive heard that usually their prices are the same but they throw in like 60-70 dollars worth of extras in the bundle.

On a more positive note, I have a very good feeling that this whole 4g bug is what prompted them to zip the lip about the release.  I heard someone say that they tried buying a 4g phone yesterday and couldn’t get it activated because of the data issues.  If they tried releasing the nexus with this, then they would have every verizon store in america with a bunch of people getting choked out because they couldn’t turn on everyone’s nexus.

I think that now that data is seemingly stable, and like el padrino kellex said, as long as it stays stable for the next 24 hours, we juuuuuust might see a nexus launch this weekend. I think verizon is finally ready to get up off the john and start servicing some nexus fiends.

    • TROLOLOL

and this, my friends, is how rumors get started.

  • Parkertimothy2

    Leather pouch, eeeeewww

    • FortitudineVincimus

Right? Isn’t that like so circa Palms Treo line. Does anyone – other than IT geeks – still carry a phone on their belt in a leather pouch??

      • TROLOLOL

Like OMG! costco’s offering the phone for $10 LESS than retail and throwing in some freebies EWWWwww. are they serious, i mean, i’d rather pay retail and get absolutely nothing. Gross… ID10TS.

      • Anonymous

I do, and I’m not an IT geek. I’d much rather have it on my belt where it’s easy to get to and unobtrusive than in my pocket where it’s taking up more space. I find it uncomfortable to have too much stuff in my pockets. However, Verizon’s velcro OG pouch sucks ass. The older magnetic ones were way better.

      • bigrob60

Aren’t we all some sort of IT geek. We root & rom our phones. That’s got to count toward that.

  • Anonymous

    I want the Costco bundle.

  • Anonymous

The iPhone 4 retails for $649 and sells for $199 on contract. Never thought I’d ever pay a premium for an Android phone.

    • Anonymous

Doesn’t the $199 iPhone 4S only have 16GB of memory though?

      • Anonymous

That’s irrelevant. A 2 year contract on Verizon takes $449 of the retail price of an iPhone 4. For a galaxy nexus, only $349.

You would think a 2 year contract would be worth the same amount of money.

        • Anonymous

I understand what you’re saying, but you also have to remember that none of the iPhone devices are LTE either.

          • Anonymous

it being LTE is also irrelevant. A 2 year contract is a 2 year contract! We’re all fools for ignoring this.

The Galaxy Nexus would need to be priced at $749 at retail to be on par with the iPhone when it comes so subsidy.

          • TROLOLOL

yes, and it having a premium because it is an APPLE product is also irrelevant, right?

          • Anonymous

It is not irrelevant that its LTE.  Thats like saying dial up is the same as DSL, because they are both contract services.

          • Anonymous

I’m talking about pricing alone. The 2 phones have the same retail price, but don’t cost the same on a 2 year contract. Essentially your 2 year contract is worth more off your phone when you get an iPhone 4, versus an Android phone.

By looking at the specs alone and contract price alone, you’ve fallen victim to Verizon’s pricing shenanigans.

          • Anonymous

That the phone is clearly superior to the iPhone 4S (with 32gb of storage), and still costs the same is a plus for the Nexus.  If its a pricing shenanigan, its in your favor, since the Nexus is an LTE device with better hardware for the same price.

          • Anonymous

You are only looking at the 2 year contract price. Factor in the retail price and hopefully it’ll click.

The iPhone 4S 32 GB is actually $749 retail. $100 more than the Galaxy Nexus retail, yet they cost the same on a 2 year contract.

This isn’t about which phone is better for the contract price. Its about how phone companies will pay for $449 of your phone if it happens to be an Apple and less if its an android.

          • Anonymous

You’ve fallen victim to a classic blunder!  The most famous of which is never get involved in a land war in Asia.  But only slightly less well known is this:  never use Apple’s ridiculous retail price to compare to anything, ever.

If you honestly believe that the iPhone 4s represents superior hardware to warrant the greater price, than there is nothing I can do for you.

          • Anonymous

lol. I can’t keep this up anymore. You’re still talking about hardware.

      • TROLOLOL

        yes, the $299 4S has 32GB, $399 has 64GB

That is quite the disappointing bundle.  Not enough for me to get a membership to Costco, that’s for sure.

  • Gastripod

This may be a stupid question, but does anyone know if upgrading at Costco vs a Verizon store will respect my grandfathered unlimited data plan?

    • Anonymous

as far as I know it just a verizon kiosk in costco, why wouldn’t they honor eveyrthing with verizon, including my last remaining new every two discount which is ($50.)

      • TROLOLOL

you can use a loyalty discount at Costco? cool

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=25001493 Hank Godwin

Won’t make a difference as long as you don’t leave Verizon.  You could pick the phone up at Best Buy as well without it changing your grandfathered unlimited status.

    • Christopher Riner

yeah, shouldn’t have any effect.  As long as you have unlimited data and you continue the same contract, you’re gravy.  Speaking of gravy, I am eating some.

    • Jboku

Yes they do just make sure you tell them that you  want to keep your grandfathers unlimited data plan.  I bought my bionic there and took it back and still have my upgrade and unlimited data ;)

btw, I would love to visit des moines and see where slipknot started out

      • http://www.facebook.com/joseph.a.yager Joseph A. Yager

3G has been spotty, as well – though 3G is always a little spotty for me just based on my work location, I think.  When 4G is on, though, it’s super fast even at work.  And Des Moines isn’t too bad for a place to live!

    • user01

Who needs 4G when you’ve got The High Life?

  • Dominick DeVito

Perhaps this could be a legal issue at play – which could be a HUGE reason why Verizon nor Google is making any communication about it.

Verizon is a fault. They could have violated a spectrum policy when they asked Google not to include Google wallet on the phone, mainly because of ISIS. This rule was put in place when VZW purchased the C Block spectrum.

YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO RELAY THIS INFO AND ANGER TO YOUR BOSSES.  AND THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO RELAY THE ANGER TO THEIR BOSSES – AND SO ON.

      • Anonymous

That’s like yelling at the McDonalds employee at the counter demanding that they bring back the styraphoam boxes. Do you really think anyone in their community of command has that type of influence? Do you think they care?

    • Interstellarmind

don’t tell us to stop calling you. tell your bosses to release the phone and the calls will stop. in the meantime, please don’t take this the wrong way, but do your job and field the calls and relay to your bosses what the problem areas are out in the field (ie they’re Fing up the release of this phone).

      • Mark

Trust me on this one..calling VZW complaining about a Nexus release date does nothing. I could tell my boss, who could in turn tell their boss and guess where it’s going to get you? No where, there is obviously a reason the Nexus is delayed again, do i know what it is? Nope, but i imagine it has a great deal to do with the instability of LTE right now. I totally understand your ideology of calling and demanding until it’s released but you guys are smart, there is a reason why it was on our Equipment Guide two days ago and now it’s gone and across the nation there are LTE problems. Personally i am just as stoked as everyone else for this phone, but i’d rather them start selling a phone when they know the network is stable enough to handle the thousands upon thousands of activations they are going to get on release then to sell the branding of a LTE phone and have a myriad of activation issues and roll backs to 3G, i find that to be more disappointing to the customer base.

        • TROLOLOL

We would still rather have the phones in our hands.

        • Interstellarmind

the peopel who will get this phone – android entusiasts – wil lbe ok with their phone working as 3g out of the box until vz can fix 4g.

and why not just say, “hey, 4g sucks right now, we’re delaying the release because of it.” why not jsut tell us that? why the mystery? the mystery only leads us to believe vz is delaying to sell other phones.

        • Anonymous

Like sound logic will be able to rebuff the blind rage going on around here.

        • Nexus just punked us!

I do not have 4g where I live, so I do not care about that issue, because ill be rocking my GNex with 3g till probably 2013. So I should not have to wait for those 4g cities to get their shit together …. 4g issue can’t be the problem, it just can’t be. If I had a 80% workable phone, this wait would not be So painful. But my og Droid barely holds service and is so sluggish. But one good thing that will come out of this, is that ill be so excited at launch day that xmas wont top it lol.. ill be throwing women with infants out of my way to get this phone.

  • Tony

Hurry up and release it already!!!!!!

  • Timfantry

But to get the accessory bundle from costco do you need to be an existing member or sign up to be a new one ( which i think is $50?)?

    • Anonymous

you need a membership to get in the door (can go with or use a friend’s, if you look kinda like them), but then you’d have to pay cash…  you do Not need a membership to order online, but they told me they are not carrying the Gnex online

      • http://twitter.com/Gastripod Gastripod

thats not entirely true. I  loan out my card to my brother all the time. You don’t have to pay cash either, you have to use a debit card, and I think AMEX is an option too.
