Motorola Releases Special Car Finder App for DROID RAZR

I have always been fascinated by the fact that people need these car locator apps. Where on Earth are you parking your car that you can’t find it? Or maybe I shouldn’t ask, since you can’t seem to remember, hence the reason for you needing this app. Whatever your reasons are though, a massive industry in the app world has been created where developers continually strive to one up each other with some new location-based add-on.

After noticing a growing population of lost drivers and lonely parked cars, Motorola has decided to enter the game with their own car finder application. It’s a free app dubbed “Motorola Car Finder” (original, eh?) and includes almost all of the features you will find in many of the paid apps such as automatically saving your location when your phone is undocked in your car.

The listing claims that the DROID RAZR is only device currently supported, but you may as well try it on your Bionic or DROID 3 too.

Someone fill me in, what sort of things are you doing that you need a car finder?

Works great with Bionic.  Car dock is required.

My wife and I got really drunk at a Kansas City Royals game many, many years ago and wandered around for a half hour on the wrong side of the stadium looking for our car.  The courtesy attendants in the lot eventually picked us up and helped us.  Needless to say, this would have come in handy.

  • Frankyvalentino

Well occasionally, prior to a bank heist, I’m so concentrated on what I’m going to say i even forgot to put on socks! let alone remember where we parked the van….

Works for the DROID 3 :)

Motorola should put less resources into something like this and more into the camera software that they bundle with their phones.

I think you must live in some remote village in the middle of nowhere.  You probably have not been to a stadium parking lot that holds 50,000 cards or parking  for the Phoennix  Open golf tournament that holds at least 100,000 cars scattered over several square miles.  Who need  this app when there are only 10 cars in your parking lot?

  • EricTheRed

I just downloaded this app and can’t find it on my phone!  Can someone develop an app finding app so i can find my car finder app?  Thank you!!!

Why are you keeping tabs on your neighbors Mom? do you have a spammy link I can read more about that weirdness.

You might want to get friendly with punctuation too, not many folks care about making 23 cents in several hours on the internet.

  • Slayton Derrick

Works flawlessly on the Droid Bionic as well.

  • MJZ

installed no problem on my Bionic, but requires a car dock. bah!

  • tiptoptommy

installs and launches fine on my d2 . Not that I need it ….. Maybe at six flags.

  • Tim Swann

    Dude! Where’s my RAZR??

  • Sp4rxx

According to the online market, it is compatible with the OG as well.

“This application is compatible with all your devices”  (mine being the OG and RAZR)

  • Justin Kos

stop smoking pot = find car easier

  • Mctypethings_Gay_lover

How about fix the data drop and other problems instead of appeasing the morons with a car finder app?

    • Sp4rxx

What data drop and other problems?  I haven’t had an issue yet running the RAZR…

btw …. nice name muahahahaha :P

      • Mctypethings_Gay_lover

You are lucky. Tons of threads on the 4G/3G data drops.

        • Sp4rxx

I stream Audiogalaxy through the 4G connection and I visited my parents that live in a 3G area and I had no loss of quality, nor any skips …..

          *crosses fingers*

so I will stick with my operative word “yet” in regard to losing data.

    • Anonymous

those are verizon issues, not motorola issues. VZ had a lot of trouble this month with their data networks.

    • Anonymous

they must have fixed’em because aside from a nite where neither me nor my husband’s bionic had data…i’ve not had a problem

Look at the loser here guest aka 1bad69z28 lol same loser

  • Rick King

Will this help me locate my Galaxy Nexus on Verizon?  Because right now, I’m having a hard time finding it.

    • Mctypethings_Gay_lover

      Just like your dick.

  • Droid_X Owner

I was at a Nascar Event in Phoenix and the parking was on a gigantic dirt lot.  No markings or signage that indicates where you parked.  Car Locator helped guide me in the right direction.

  • Dominick DeVito

Just fire up Google Maps, mark your location and save it. Who needs an app to do that??

    • Mctypething

      Google Maps is an app

      • Dominick DeVito

        who needs an ADDITIONAL app?

        /HappyNow?

  • mike leistiko

I’ll only use this app when I’m drunk…

    • Sp4rxx

then you SHOULDN’T find your car lol – never drink and drive! lol

      • Anonymous

Thats when I drive best, as long as I can find the car.  This takes all the challenge out of that = stylin.

  • Brandon Sobotta

This would be great when your on vacation.

    • Brandon Sobotta

gonna try it on sunday when at the vikings game in mpls

A man is drviing his family to the airport. When they arrive the man is whirling through the garage headed for the top. As he passes hundereds of open spaces, he is oblivious to his wife pointing them out as he goes. When he finally arrives on the roof level, they get out of the car and walk to the terminal past the other ten cars that decided to park in the sun. While waiting for the elevator, his wife asks, “why the roof?” The proud man replies, “I don’t get a good GPS reception in the garage and I need this app to find our car. The roof is where it works best.” The wife nods her head and replies, “that’s pretty smart honey, come here.” As the couple lean in for a kiss, smack, she slaps the shi% out of him.

Less time on shitty apps, more time on releasing ICS, Motorola.

    • http://profiles.google.com/adamtruelove Adam Truelove

Agreed.  Motorola, HTC, Samsung, Verizon.  All these companies need to concentrate on doing what they do best.  I’ll give you hint what that is….it’s not software.

      • Dominick DeVito

        Well said.

        • Anonymous

Dear Moto & Sanjay.  Please spend:

-Less time on shitty apps like this one
-Less time on trying to put lipstick on Blur
-Less time on trying to force overpriced, unwieldly accessories like lapdocks and Xoom speaker docks that no one wants down our throats
          -Less time locking bootloaders
-Less time spent on incremental updates to the Xoom
-Less time spent on juicing up the RAZR to pacify VZW and instead fixing the Bionic’s fatal flaws
-Less time releasing incremental updates on the same device and instead coming up with a native ICS handset with a 4.5″ 720p screen that surpasses the G-Nex
-Less time spent on ridiculous names such as the Xyboard
-Less time developing phones with sealed internal batteries

          • Mctypethings_Gay_lover

Or you could get off Moto’s jock and go to a different maker, DOY!

          • Anonymous

If he didn’t just post up everything written around his shrine to the M logo I would agree, but I don’t think he can, fatal attraction. Bitter is better.

      • Mctypethings_Gay_lover

You say it’s not releasing software but you agree with the ‘release ICS’ guy? Moron.

  • Clevelandrocks

No one needs these apps. But I will say finding your car at cedar point can be difficult sometimes.

    BIG NEWS

  • http://twitter.com/Chris_Padar Chris_Padar

Six Flags Great America. After 12 hours of dragging the kids around rides, theaters and shops, it might be nice for my phone to be able to tell me which of the 6 Batman aisles I parked in. At least Disney had a row numbering system so I can just text the row number to my wife and we both have it.

  • http://www.hammertechnologies.net Chase Johnson

so you cant remember where you parked but you are suppose to remember to use this app to remember where you parked…

    • Lgreg64

the app does it for you when you remove it from the car dock.

      • http://www.hammertechnologies.net Chase Johnson

again have to remember to remove it from the d…ah forget it lol.

A poor crying man is seen sitting on a bench outside super walmart. A stranger stops to ask what the problem is. The man replies, “my battery on my phone has died, how am I ever going to find my car now? I have been here for hours. ” The stranger pauses and takes the time to formulate a proper response that might be helpful for the situation. He then slowly leans over towards the sitting man and without word being said, he slaps the shi# out of the man and walks away.

Only works with the Motorola car dock.  Automatically snaps location when undocked.  Airports are the first thing that come to mind.  Malls aren’t too bad for me as I am not quite at the age where my near term memory is failing.

  • Leo Chen

For those of you with Tasker, you can have the automatic pin on undock function on any phone. I just have it set so that when I undock my phone from the car dock it sets a variable to my current location.

I then have a tasker widget that shows that location in a map. I also have another widget that manually pins the location for me, in case I’m in someone else’s car.

    • Anonymous

Thats like an afternoon of programming stuff in tasker for 3/4 of the people on the planet you realize?

You would need a car finder if you park at a mall, fairgrounds, convention center… lots of places. Now, whether an app to find your car is practical, I’m not sure. But I’ll try it out if it works on my Droid 3.

  • Mctypething

kellex, don’t get out of the house much? Airports, sporting events, concerts, theme parks etc.. There are many instances where you have to park your car amongst a sea of other cars where locator apps come in handy.

      Lose your car, bro?

    • Mctypething’s Friend

      You lost, bro?

    • Mctypethings_Gay_lover

Confused Bro? Like your stupid comment posting ass has EVER been to any of the above listed places.

  • http://twitter.com/TheElizabethW Elizabeth White

I know parking my car at the local university and then walking to attend an event has left my car and I very separated in the past.

  • J Dub

Agreed on the lost car. I mean are people just so oblivious to their surroundings? You didn’t see what store you came into the mall through or what side of that store you parked?

    • Mctypethings_Gay_lover

Yeah, becuase at Coachella concert with 100,000 cars in unmarked fields you, being so smart, would just walk right to yours no problem.

      Whats mine say

  • Anonymous

When you park your car for weeks at a time while on business trips overseas, this app could be useful.

  • TROLOLOL

Google! Develop an app like this one with an optional feature, where, when the phone is removed from the car mount (and ONLY from the car mount) it will it automatically mark your position. Booya!!! Send all proceeds to me later…

    • TROLOLOL

Oh, to add to this… only mark your position after removing from the car mount at all locations except a home address. Also, it should clear the last position when you place it back in the dock (by checking GPS location after you start moving) or when you arrive to your home address. Bingo!!!

    • Nexusplz

Car Locator in the Market already does this

This would be great for my mother who gets into wrong cars all the time. She can never find her car even if it’s the only car in the lot.  She has even unloaded her groceries into wrong cars before…. :)

    • Tyrian

The “I think I drive the same car as a hip hop music mogul because I’m feeling richer” effect. It happens when you cut your cell phone bill in half…

    • Jason

and yet she is still allowed to drive, hmmmm lol

    • Jared Kirk

Question… how does your mom get into the wrong car?  Does everyone that drive the same make/model as her leave their doors unlocked?

      • Anonymous

It happens! This was some time ago and people didn’t lock cars as much as they do now.  She used to have a toy poodle and she went into a store for a few minutes and came out and got into a wrong car and was getting upset cause someone must have taken her dog.  Until she realized she was in the wrong car… lol

I’ve gone with her places and just followed her while she tried to figure out where she parked her car…. It was an amazing thing.

She is older now and I have her living in one of my apartments and I take her anywhere she needs to go now.  She hates to go anywhere if it’s raining or foggy or dark out… lol

  • http://profiles.google.com/babybybusta Andrew Thompson

I guess you need a dock, tried it on my D3

  • Anonymous

This is great for that 1 time that you go to the mall and completely forget where you park.  It’s all happened to us at one point or another.(If it hasn’t, it will)

But I imagine you probably have to leave it running so it can sense when you shift from driving to walking(thus having parked), or tell the app ‘I just parked’ so it knows where you are.  So for that once and a great while deal, it probably won’t be that awesome.

For that girl you know who can NEVER remember…awesome!

    • FortitudineVincimus

Never happened to me. Why? I don’t go to malls.. I shop exclusively on the interwebs.

          • Anonymous

            :D

          • Sam Shedd

I could think of other uses for this app as well.

    • http://www.facebook.com/jerryhuster Jerry Huster

It only fires up once your RAZR is docked and then it automatically takes a snapshot of your location when you undock. It remains off until you check the app to see where you parked! I use it all the time! (and I’m the one who sent this into Kellex)

      • Anonymous

        Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh that I likey.

  • Kierra

Lol if the Galaxy Nexus could do this this would be praised. No questions asked.

    • Anonymous

“A wonderful new app unique only to the Nexus was released today…”
      :P

      • Anonymous

Exactly, then in 2 years Apple will “invent the ability to find cars right from the homescreen” and sue Samsung and Motorola for patent infringement.

    • FortitudineVincimus

      SOOOO true.

Same with weak cameras & chincy plastic construction. Okay on the Nexus, clowned on any other phone.

    • Dominick DeVito

God damnit – stop with the G-Nex hating already! No one is talking about it yet you somehow have to bring it into conversation. Let it go. Enjoy the holidays. Go sing some XMas carols.

    • John

The Galaxy Nexus can do this.. so can any other android phone with Google Maps installed.

amazingly enough (sarcasm), Google Maps allows you to mark (star) locations.

      Enable GPS
      Open Google Maps
Touch once on the Blue Arrow to bring up “My Location” bubble
      Touch the “My Location” bubble
Touch the grey Star to the right (it will turn yellow)..

You have now marked a location (where your car is).. takes about 5 seconds.

      To find it:
      Enable GPS
      Open Google Maps
      Hit settings key -> More
      My Places
      find your car

      • Anonymous

That sounds pretty easy, I’ll stick with my razr and:

        1. Remove phone from dock.

        To find it:

        1. Pull down notification bar, select “car finder” and follow directions.

Even though I do LOVE it when I do what you suggested above, and forget to delete the starred location, then 2 years later wonder why I have a parking spot at the Mall of America saved to my favorite places. ;-)

        • Danofiveo

Exactly! I was thinking that same thing.

    • Anonymous

Come on, admit it, it would probably be better on the Galaxy Nexus. ;-)

  • Dominick DeVito

Don’t lose your phone, ’cause you might end up losing your car too.
