DROID 4 Scheduled to Launch December 8, Same Day as the Galaxy Nexus?

Could the DROID 4 find its way into stores on December 8 alongside the Galaxy Nexus? According to the latest info from our friends at Verizon, that’s exactly what the plan is. Well, the Nexus is still up in the air to our knowledge, so let’s just talk about the D4 for a second.

We gave you the first photos of the newest DROID slider almost a month ago now, followed by a mention in Big Red’s device management system. The idea that it could be released before X-mas was talked about, but we’re not sure that we truly believed it could happen that fast. After all, the RAZR hasn’t even been around long enough to accumulate dust. Motorola, puttin’ in work.

Specs from our sources are as follows:

  • 4″ Super AMOLED Advanced display
  • Full 5-row “illuminated” keyboard
  • RAZR styling
  • 4G LTE
  • Non-removable battery (maybe)
  • Android 2.3.5
  • 1080p video recording (assuming 8MP)
  • Front camera
  • HDMI out
  • MotoACTV syncing

Ready for the world’s first DROID 4G LTE slider?

Cheers ___!

FACT- Verizon is not releasing the Galaxy nexus this year

  • Typo

Please let this be true…My OG replaced before Christmas…LOVE IT!

    • James

      Me too!

    • KeithA

Yes, going to give myself a Christmas gift. No need for gift wrapping.

  • Anonymous

What the hell! I say again. What the hell! Just release the Nexus already, screw everything else.

  • Mayze23

What’s Xmas? Did Xopher Columbus discover America? Did dinosaurs roam the earth during the BX time period?

I swear if Verizon releasing the stupid Droid 4 before the Nexus I’m going to personally drive to Basking Ridge NJ and slaughter everyone and kill their puppies…..

    • Anonymous

While you’re there, could you pick the rest of us readers up some Galaxy Nexuses (or is it Nexi)?

  • tjmonkey15

Droid 4 launching on December 8th?  Might as well push the date back for the Nexus then.  Right Verizon?

  • Anonymous

I can only assume a lot of people are going to read this because “Galaxy Nexus” was in the title. Which can only mean one thing.

I almost feel like going to a Verizon store right now and talking as many people as possible out of buying one of these new phones in protest for Verizon delaying the Nexus.

  • Anonymous

This will make my wife very happy. This is the phone she is leaning heavily towards. She really wants a keyboard.  We’ll see if I can talk her into a Nexus or not…. might be hard though.

  • Anonymous

My wife wants to know how thick it is. Yes, she did say that.

  • Anonymous

Motorola currently has 5 Android devices for sale at Verizon alone. If you add their phones on Sprint, T-Mobile, and AT&T, they have 12. I think Motorola has a phone problem. We need to stage an intervention.

  • Anonymous

I’ll never buy a smartphone with a physical keyboard again.

Can’t wait……. then maybe by Christmas the DroidX 3 will be out with a:

    ~Non Removeable Battery
    ~Old LTE SIM
    ~Still No Front Facing Camera
    ~Locked Bootloader
    ~Probably running Froyo(LoL)
~And a Power Button On The Top Of The Damn Phone
    Just to say the least.

Calm down Moto….. Yall pushing out these phone like the “20 Kids and Counting” lady pushes out babies.

    • Anonymous

maybe moto thinks by doing this they can catch up to samsung. The only difference is samsung doesn’t push a locked down phone. Plus samsung screens blow away anything on moto which is the main selling point with samsung phones.

      • EC8CH

        • Anonymous

Please do enlighten me since you think you know so much. What does moto have going for them other than their radios? Those don’t seem to be a big selling point since samsung is kicking their ass selling smartphones. So what is it that moto is so great at that you think I am a noob? C’mon man get that weak shit out of here moto fanboy.

          • Anonymous

Updates. What is the fascinate still running again?

          • Anonymous

Hardware, updates.  You know, only the important things.

          • Anonymous

so the updates that takes them 2-3 tries to get right and not buggy as hell? And I could care less if they keep locking their bootloaders I just won’t be buying from them while they do that. We all know you are king moto fanboy and nothing compares /s

          • Anonymous

Did you read anything I said?  Thanks for proving my point.

          • Anonymous

Ah going back and editing your post. Nice try though still doesn’t change the fact that they are easily outselling moto phones. So what now?

          • Anonymous

You sound like an iZealot. Why don’t you go dig up some charts to show me how much more Samsung is selling between your locked bootloader sniveling.

          • Anonymous

How many phones does moto have pushed out all around the world?  Now how many samsung??  That is why they are outselling, because moto, for whatever reason, doesn’t push their phones around all over the place like sammy does.  If they did they would probably be higher up in the charts.  Samsung has a bad track record in the states and….if that is where you live….wouldn’t you want a better piece of hardware that is supported instead of a phone that still doesn’t have Gingerbread even though it was released over a year ago.  Yet the entire moto suite is updated except for the OG which doesn’t support native GB because it is 2 years old…yet they are still pushing patches too it.  Name one samsung that is 2 years old and still getting updates….. 0

          • Mannysaurus

Hardware. You know, like the processor that their last flagship phone used. Updates. You know, the ones you can only get from Motorola since they lock their phones down harder than San Quentin. More hardware. You know, a cool permanent effect giving your camera blue tint. Updates. You know, the ones that cause more problems. Hardware. You know, where you can see every pixel on your phone screen. I could go on and on about this.

Motorola’s record is spiraling downward while Samsung’s is steadily rising. Best to jump boat now. Android is forever changing and so will my manufacturer biases. I liked Motorola, they made me my Droid, but it isn’t the best. Power button is broken and my physical keyboard is literally falling apart (so much for hardware). Next year I might start to like LG more, who knows? Don’t stick blindly to one manufacturer. That is what makes you a fanboy. Not defending a company, but sticking to one blindly.

          • Anonymous

You wouldn’t know what bias is if it smacked you in the face.  Good job cherry picking what suits your argument, it shows your hypocrisy.

  • Bewara2009

I will be mad if this is true, there is no way Verizon will release two phones the same day.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Michael-Forte/542650247 Michael Forte

They won’t. Look for the Galaxy Nexus even later in December,

    • Anonymous

Like the RAZR and the Rezound?

      • Anonymous

didn’t release same day, released 11/11 and 11/14 respectively.

    • Anonymous

Why would that make you mad? I don’t understand.

  • Dave

I’m betting the Nexus will be pushed back to the week after December 8th.

  • Jacob Epstein

All I see in the title of this article is “Galaxy Nexus launch Dec 8th?”

    • EC8CH

      good eye

  • Dave

Very peculiar, P3Droid seems pretty sure the Nexus won’t see the light of day on December 8th (probably next week).  Also very odd they would release a Droid 4 so soon. It honestly looks like they are simply trying to push LTE onto their entire line-up.

  • gadgetryan

what is up with moto puting in non removable batteries. That was the one thing that turned me off when the i*hone came into existence. I just want the ability to swap batteries if need be. But that is just my take on the whole non removable stuff on phones.

    • Anonymous

      To make phones slimmer?

      • http://twitter.com/zero_cool96 Nick

i fail to see how it would do so. just looking at my droid i think of how it would be nonremovable and i dont think it would save any space.

    • Anonymous

Many of us are still using our OGDs. Given how much of nerds we all are, that serves as pretty strong testimony that the hardware in phones doesn’t have the built-in forced obsolescence that manufacturers want them to. Li-Ion batteries have a well-documented decay pattern, such that anyone who is still using their original battery in their OGD probably has to keep it constantly plugged in.

In other words, the nonremovable battery is a ticking timebomb.

      • JJ69Chev

still have original battery in og and can easily make it a day, day and a half one one charge

        • Anonymous

That’s pretty impressive. You must keep your phone plugged in quite a bit, or maybe just don’t use it very much. Alternatively, you might’ve just gotten really lucky, but generally luck doesn’t factor in very much — like I said, the battery’s ability to hold a charge decays at a fairly reliable rate. Of note, though, that decay rate is based on number of charge cycles used; time only serves as a proxy for that.

The point still stands, though: once you reach a certain number of charge cycles (however long that takes, depending on how heavily you use your battery), your device becomes essentially an AC-only piece of electronics, prompting a new purchase even if the other hardware is still working plenty well, and thus completing Moto’s new desired product lifecycle.

          • Anonymous

Also note that we are talking about an LTE phone. Thus, you are going to burn through those charge cycles much faster than with OGD.

          • Anonymous

The razor and D4 use li-poly which has many more charge cycles than li-ion

          • Anonymous

            That’s interesting, I wasn’t aware of that.

I agree, that certainly makes my conspiracy theory much more dubious. But then the question returns: if it wasn’t to somehow get them more money, what was the logic behind doing this?

        • Anonymous

I used to have 2 batteries for my OG Droid until I lost the original battery 5 weeks ago. Removable battaries come in handy, you dont have to tethered yourself to the wall to use your mobile device. When I lost the battery I was so relieved to learn that I had lost the original battery. I haven’t bought another one bc I’m up for an upgrade and I don’t want to burn cash on another battery. Besides I’m waiting for the G-Nexus to be release to check it out.

  • Nate Davidson

Super AMOLED Screen +, non-removeable battery -,  LTE +, thats just a net +. Why not just call it the Droid 3 Global, or the Droid 3 +. This really isn’t worthy of the “Droid 4″ name…

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Michael-Forte/542650247 Michael Forte

They did it on purpose so they could call it the Droid 4(G)

      • Anonymous

And the apple lawsuits will follow, since apple patented using the numbering system and specifically the #4.

        • Nate Davidson

I thought the Droid X2 was a little… yesteryear. At least they didn’t name the Droid RAZR the BIONIC 2, or the DX3 or some lame name. Although, that does give them 2 more names to throw numbers on >.>

          • Anonymous

Well technically it isn’t a bionic 2 or x3 since it looks like it won’t have the hump on the back. If anything the razr essentially could be the bionic 2. Droid 4 sounds right since it has the keyboard and they use the number scheme for those with keyboards(droid’s anyway)

          • Anonymous

Yeah DROID phones are the one’s with keyboards.
BIONIC/RAZR are like flagship phones (in a way).
X/X2 started with being phones with big screens, now I don’t know what differentiates them. I wouldn’t be surprised if the X series will be discontinued. I mean, it just doesn’t make sense having 2 very similar phones out on the same network.

          • Anonymous

Well they essentially have 3 similar phones in the dx2,bionic, and razr all with the trademark camera hump on the back.

          • Anonymous

Well DX2 doesn’t have 4G, Bionic is fat(er than the RAZR). They’re different, but you’re right they should just have one or two phones, not a bazillion different types.

          • Anonymous

I think all of these companies could go with making 3-4 phones. Make one for the entry level buyers, 1 for mid level, and 2 high end flagship phones. Then maybe they could have decent upgrade times rather than never being able to keep up since they have 10 different phones out that are very similar but one or two things slow down the updates more than the rest.

          • Booboolala2000

Also, maybe if VZW only had about six or so Andoid phones altogether, maybe they could handle updates better. Three high end and three low end and maybe one inbetween is mire than enough. plus, think how great the high end phones would be.

          • Booboolala2000

The Razr is essentially the DX3, the Bionic was just a mistake. Soon to be abandoned like a newborn in a dumpster. Happy Thanksgiving y’all!

          • Anonymous

LOL. Yeah true that. Even the design of the Bionic and RAZR is an evolution of what started with the Droid X.

        • Ebauer

Nope Brett Favre beat them to it

    • Anonymous

But now the Droid “4″ is the first one to have “4G”

  • dkbetts

    • Anonymous

Well there isn’t a 4G Moto phone with a keyboard, so it’s good to have options.

      • dkbetts

That’s true. I didn’t think of that. I guess there are many different flavors of ice cream.

Moto is really going hard these past couple months with phones. Damn. I wonder if the Nexus date doesnt hold up, again, if the Droid 4 will launch before it…..

    • http://twitter.com/wonderyak wonderyak

Yes. Physical keyboards are quicker for me as I’m not constantly second guessing what button I hit; or what the phone thinks I hit.

    • Anonymous

People like myself, who touch type, like sliders, because we can type faster and more accurately with the tactile feedback.

If you’re just using one finger and looking at the keyboard for each letter, physical vs. virtual doesn’t matter as much…

EC8CH, if the droid 4 is releasing on the date, I have doubts as to whether the nexus will release on the 8th.  Either it will be pushed back, or silent release, cause vzw gotta get their branding and marketing on.

Will this have qhd or are they going to step up and go hd?

    • bigrob60

“4″ Super AMOLED Advanced display”The advanced part sounds hd to me but we’ll know more later.

      • Guest X

The Advanced display is a step below “HD” which is a step below “Plus.” Motorola STILL picks the WORST Pentile displays! And I’m not surprised.

    THIS.

  • Charles Blackmon

does this phone come with ics?

    • Anonymous

nah 2.3.5, but similar to the Razr it will prolly get ICS early next year, considering Moto has recently been pretty good about it, that seems like a legit window.

    • Tyler

No, it has hardware buttons and the “Specs from our sources are as follows” part says version 2.3.5.

    • Anonymous

Only the Galaxy Nexus will have ICS at first, officially. Probably won’t be until next year that we’ll start seeing OCS on older and new phones.

    • Anonymous

It will certainly get upgraded to ICS, since Moto has already announced that the RAZR will get ICS.

It really is starting to seem that way.  They must not have a good relationship with Samsung.

Motorola and HTC seem to be in pretty tight….

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Michael-Forte/542650247 Michael Forte

Well who locks bootloaders? Motorola and HTC. Who doesn’t? Samsung. There’s your answer,

        • Anonymous

moto encrypts, htc locks them but are usually pretty easy to crack. Moto does one thing good and that is keeping them bootloaders locked tighter than a nuns legs.

          • Spc Hicks09

Moto Droid had a bootloader that was “locked tighter than a nuns legs?” Didn’t think so.

          • Anonymous

The OG Droid was the exception. That was back before the days of locked bootloaders when you could easily install a ROM onto any Android phone.

          • Anonymous

so the one phone 2 years old that moto didn’t lock you reference? How about you get with the times, droid x/x2, droid 2/2global, droid 3, bionic, razr, all locked down. See a trend? Maybe not let me put it in simple terms for you… All moto’s devices on verizon within the last year have been locked and encrypted.

          • guest

It was after the release of the original droid and the explosion of the custom ROM world that caused Motorola/Verizon to start to lock down the bootloaders.

          • Anonymous

If that is the case why is no samsung on verizon locked down, or lg for that matter? Moto is the culprit nobody is forcing them to encrypt their bootloaders like they do. Not to mention I think it may have been more about trying to stop tethering than custom roms.

          • http://www.facebook.com/people/Michael-Forte/542650247 Michael Forte

Well the Rezound hasn’t been cracked yet. They only have Temp Root and S-On. Only reason the Thunderbolt was unlocked was by using older firmware.

          • Anonymous

it hasnt even been 3 weeks yet though.

          • Joshnichols189

The rezound has been out for nine days.

          • Anonymous

They will get it unlocked and you know it.  And you also know that the Razr will NEVER be unlocked.

As I was thinking about renting a phone to hold me over I thought of the Razr briefly cause it was thin but even though I would return it I decided I wouldn’t even rent one.  I would get the Rezound or even the iPhone over the Razr. I loved my OG  but I feel I’d have more freedom with an iPhone than I would the latest batch of Moto phones.

I do like Motorola phones however and hold out great hope that the impending merger with Google might have some influence on improving things. Maybe even the next Nexus will be a Moto phone. And it will be unlocked and amazing!

      • Anonymous

I think this will be the first and last nexus on verizon. It seems clear that they only want phones that they can control and stick their bloat on( yeah we know the iphone but apple has more power than all android OEM’s combined). I kind of wish they would have released an lte sgs2 so I wouldn’t have to continue to wait for a dual core lte samsung device.

        • Anonymous

Verizon drops the ball more than the Cleveland Cavaliers!  They could have had the sg2 but instead went with nonsense.  Now they can have the Nexus but seem to not be in any hurry to release it. They either really don’t know what we customers want or they simply don’t want to give it to is.

I also would have purchased the sg2. I really don’t understand how the other networks can get all the best phones.

          • http://www.twitter.com/nblufire12 Nathan Patel

galaxy nexus was delayed because they are still testing it… i’d rather have a phone with no bugs and wait 3 weeks than a phone with shitton of bugs early

I don’t believe its because they are testing it. That could have been done long ago if wanted.

Kellex wrote that his source said they were still undergoing tests on the phone and it wasn’t ready to be released… It’s not like its just sitting there all ready to be shipped

          • Anonymous

His source also said it was supposed to be released just about everyday in nov and well that doesn’t seem to be the case now does it?

          • http://www.twitter.com/nblufire12 Nathan Patel

At least he has a source. What do you have?

          • Anonymous

ha that is your best response? I would rather not have a source that has no idea and just continuously is wrong.

          • http://www.twitter.com/nblufire12 Nathan Patel

Show me your blog. Oh wait. You don’t have one.

          • Anonymous

u mad? You seem to suck Kellex pretty hard and get all butt hurt anytime somone mentions anything that doesn’t go toward what you want to hear. You are as bad as the isheep. smh

          • http://www.twitter.com/nblufire12 Nathan Patel

That’s how I know you lost the argument and have no idea what you are talking about. It’s sad to see an android guy talking like he knows shit.

For the record Kellex is the man. GTFO

          • Anonymous

Argument? sorry I don’t hide behind a keyboard and try to act tough. Sorry I stated things you don’t like and you got upset. I’ll be sure to send you a cookie for your troubles.

          • http://www.twitter.com/nblufire12 Nathan Patel

You said I wanted to sodomize Kellex. Wtf is wrong with you. Hide behind your keyboard? Classy. Again, I thought you had to be 12 to use the internet?

          • Anonymous

I said you were sucking Kellex, nothing of the sodomize nature. Sorry I don’t know what kind of sick fantasies you engage in on your own time but this site really isn’t the place for it.

          • http://www.twitter.com/nblufire12 Nathan Patel

Classy. How old are you again? Hit high school and learn how to talk to people. Thanks

          • Anonymous

High school? Hell I am legal to drink. Sorry I am in college and it is funny how upset you get. It’s ok old head shouldn’t you be doing something else anyway since “back in the day you didn’t have cell phones” and don’t need them?

          • http://www.twitter.com/nblufire12 Nathan Patel

Ah no wonder. Must be a local community college. Well that’s cool… I guess.

And yes I attend college as well. A real one rather.

I don’t want any weird ass college fairies trying to hit me up. I know you get your rocks off to phones and guys pictures on phone sites. Maybe you need a new hobby, then again I hear maryland is the perfect place for that kind of stuff.

Didn’t your mother ever teach you to not talk about your parent’s occupations like that? How foolish of you.

You’re the one in need of a new hobby. And touching men for sport isn’t a hobby either.

          • Anonymous

I have plenty of hobbies. Sorry not everyone can be athletically gifted and some like you have to resort to minute things in their life. It is ok I will remember you when I am looking to hire and maybe give you a shot. Maybe. But for now I will leave you to argue with J McClane… Peace out girl scout.

          • http://www.twitter.com/nblufire12 Nathan Patel

Yes I have plenty of hobbies as well. Looking to hire? Sorry I don’t want to work at mcdonalds.

Post back when you get a job out of college with a subpar GPA. I heard a life of manual labor is fun!!!

          • Anonymous

ha yeah deans list is sub par gpa? You are a clown and from reading the other posts you seem like someone who is insecure about themselves and never goes out yet hides behind his keyboard. Like I said good bye Mr. Almighty bahahhaha

          • http://www.twitter.com/nblufire12 Nathan Patel

Deans list my ass hahaha. That really made me laugh.

Whoa you could deduce all that from reading comments about Android?!?! You really must be on deans list. Not. You’re an idiot with 2000 comments on droid life and 700 on phandroid. Practice what you preach. Get away from the keyboard. lolol

          • Anonymous

sadly maybe someday you will be able to get deans list and be an all american athlete. Then again most likely not. Good luck though.

            Lol…source huh? Oh I didn’t realize you were talking about a source … :-)

            You believe everything you read?

If they wanted it out… It would be out.

          • Arenaboi

Yeah because Verizon ALWAYS releases phones with no bugs.  And you’re right, when they are delayed like the Bionic, the get all the bugs out LMAO.  Get with it and stop being a Verizon Sheep…this is the one phone that is not SUPPOSED to be “Verizon’s” phone.  It is GOOGLE’S!  It is supposed to be a developer phone for people that want a PURE Google experience and people who buy it should be told this.  I would personally have the option to buy it right now and let Google send out updates as they fix things (which they will do quickly).  There are a few people on Twitter with the LTE version RAVING about it saying it’s the best thing since sliced bread, so it can’t be THAT BUGGY

          • http://www.twitter.com/nblufire12 Nathan Patel

Clearly the Droid 4 isn’t being delayed so nut up and stop bitching? I swear its all people do these days. Just wait for the nexus or buy a Rezound or Razr like all the other clowns.

          • Anonymous

How do you know it won’t be at the last minute? Until it is dec 8th and it is out you have no clue what could happen. Please don’t count your chickens before they are hatched, because then you would just be another clown like you try and call other people.

          • http://www.twitter.com/nblufire12 Nathan Patel

Then I’ll wait like I’ve been waiting for the past 5 months. Damn.

          • Droidlife

Galaxy Nexus is delayed because Verizon really doesn’t want to sell an unlocked phone. But even more, they didn’t want any of their competitors to have a phone as good as/better than the ones Verizon *does* want to sell.
I’m actually willing to bet that the reason they delayed Nexus was because the D4 was coming around, and they wanted to further reduce the number of people who would buy the Nexus. That and the fact that they don’t want it to actually be available early enough to buy for Xmas presents.

          • http://www.twitter.com/nblufire12 Nathan Patel

The Nexus is coming to Verizon. No matter how much you bitch and moan it’s coming to Verizon.

Are you kidding me? What company sells a product that they DON’T want to sell? None. They all want to make money. Stop living in a fantasy world.

          • Anonymous

No that isn’t the reason. Multiple people with the phones have confirmed it is internal and the phones are ready to go but verizon is holding it up.

          • http://www.twitter.com/nblufire12 Nathan Patel

If it was ready to ship it’d be shipping. Clearly something isn’t ready or it’d be shipping.

They lose money just keeping it sitting there and they are all about the money.

          • Anonymous

The thing is they know it will sell whether they release it now or a month later. Sorry being all about the money has nothing to do with it. Verizon has a strategy and they know what they are doing.

          • http://www.twitter.com/nblufire12 Nathan Patel

Lol. Glad you don’t run a business.

          • Anonymous

Why because verizon can see all the hype and want for this phone so by holding it back a few more weeks that is going to run them into the ground? Please you clearly have no idea what you are talking about.

          • http://www.twitter.com/nblufire12 Nathan Patel

Oh my god you are probably 12. What is this conspiracy craze going around Droid Life. Thats not how you run a business and even Verizon knows that

          • Anonymous

yeah that is exactly it, because verizon always launches things right away /s. You clearly must not have been with verizon long if you think that is the case. They are always the last to release things even when they are ready. But hey if you don’t think that you can easily look back at previous launches to see it.

          • http://www.twitter.com/nblufire12 Nathan Patel

I have an OG D1. What do you have?

            Droid 4. No delays.

          • Anonymous

I have an OG. Last I checked it isn’t released so there is still chance for a delay. But you must think there are never any delays on verizon so you can just mark it down in your little planner as being set in stone.

          • http://www.twitter.com/nblufire12 Nathan Patel

I’ve been waiting for the Galaxy Nexus for 5 months. Let me wrote it down in my planner now.

“Chris125 has an OG D1 running stock froyo and thinks he knows everything about android.”

      • Anonymous

Motorola just needs to focus on making one good product.  The Razr isn’t it, they need to quit with all this craziness and get back to making a solid device instead of 5 mediocre ones.

        • TyroneBiggums

By all means, enlighten us on how it’s not a good product??? Seems to be common agreement everywhere it’s their best device in at least year.

          • Anonymous

You are not going to find much agreement that the Razr is the best device in a year compared to the Nexus or even the Rezound.  Yes the few that purchased may agree but that is only if their battery hasn’t run out yet. They need to have removable batteries and not so locked down. Actually the Razr isn’t much different than the Bionic other than it is thinner with an enclosed case.

Check around and see how well they are selling.  From what we are hearing it is a big disappointment.

          • Anonymous

I think it has a lot to do with the fact that the RAZR is just damn ugly.

          • RAZR_is_a_freak_phone

I agree, it is ugly and waaaay too wide!  The Rezound fits perfectly in a NORMAL hand- I am not talking about an oversized freak’s hand.
Just compare the OG Droid to the RAZR’s width- it’s insane and looks totally ridiculous when you hold it. I hope the D4 is not as wide.

          • Anonymous

The Rezounds design is a little dated, but at least it looks like what a phone should look like. I don’t know what the designers at Motorola were smoking when they thought up the design of the RAZR. The Kevlar backing is random, and the thinness is cancelled out by the hump and overall width of the phone.

          • RAZR_is_a_freak_phone

I agree!  It is so awkward to hold and I would laugh at someone I saw on the street with that mini-tablet.

It is too light and the awkward hump makes it top heavy.

Before all the haters come out- I am a Moto fan, owning the OG Droid for the last 25 months, but I would not be caught with this double wide RAZR if I got it for free.  Hey Moto- find some new designers…

          • TC Infantino

I do not think the Razr is ugly, it has an interesting style.  The big negative for me with the Razr is the feel of it in my hands.  It is uncomfortable, seems too wide for how thin it is, actually feel like it is razor thin, which is not a good thing for comfort while holding it.  It does feel way too light, and what little weight it does have seems all in the top, making you feel like it will tilt and fall out of your hand if you don’t have a firm grip on it.  The Rezound does indeed feel nice and comfortable in the hand, the dimensions are balanced nicely and it seems like a natural fluid design and form.  This could very well be my next phone if the D4 disappoints for some reason.

          • Anonymous

Pretty sure Tyrone was saying Moto’s best device, not necessarily overall.

          • Anonymous

Well they aren’t selling at all, check the latest numbers.

The phone itself is almost too gimmicky with it’s unneeded thinness and it’s kevlar backing.

The screen is still lacking compared to it’s competitors.  They need to stop with trying to throw things in a pot that they can call “selling points” and make a great device, then people will buy it because it’s a great overall device.

They’ve worked on the thinness so much, but they still have a big camera bulge, why not work on fixing that?

They make a phone so thin that you have to hold the edges and they make the edges angular and odd to hold.  The Rezound is what… 50%+ thicker and yet in hand it feels better than the Razr does.  There’s a point where design follows function and Motorola hasn’t figured that out yet.

I’m not saying the Razr is a bad phone because it isn’t, but they could do a lot better if they would focus their efforts a bit and stop releasing so many phones that don’t sell well.

          • Anonymous

I think you’re trying to state a lot of opinions as fact. If there were official numbers, we could check them, but otherwise thats rumors or opinions only. Heck running around the last 2 days I’ve seen more Bionics than iPhones which even surprises me. So someones buying them. Any of your comments that it feels gimmicky or a phone that’s double the weight and thickness is better to hold is your opinion alone and not fact.Motorola doesn’t build cameras, so how are they supposed to fix that? Even Crapples phone has been reported to have a hard time getting any thinner for the same reason. You could make the same argument in reverse about the Nexus with it’s clearly fatter bottom. Where the facts do come out it’s pretty much a top leader in 9 of 10 categories. To try and say Motorola needs to focus on making a good product, the razr isnt it….is pretty silly.

          • Anonymous

            he said razr not bionic…….

        • Anonymous

Sounds like you should get an iphone.

          • Anonymous

I’ll be getting the Nexus, but I’ve been using Motorola phones for nearly 10 years now. I’ve seen what they’re capable of and the Razr or any of these other original droid knock offs aren’t worthy.  The Razr’s hardware is great, minus the screen, but the design gimmicks and motoblur are way off course.

But I’m surprised you think because I want a company that I care about (Motorola) to produce a high quality device, that means I should get an iphone.

          • Anonymous

You said Moto should only make one device, that’s Apple’s motto.  Btw, I couldn’t disagree with you more on just about everything.

          • Anonymous

Luckily I don’t need you to agree with me to know I’m right.  The community has spoken and not gone for the Razr.  Sales are terrible and very few in our community are adopting it.  The Rezound has better sales and better reviews.

          • Anonymous

LOL, now you pitch the classic iTroll sales argument as a diversion tactic with no evidence to back it up as usual.  The only place I saw that rated the Rezound higher than the Razr was the fu*king Verge and if you look on Verizon’s site the Razr has more than twice as many reviews as the Rezound while both seem to be rated pretty equally overall.

Come on, you can do better than that.

          • Anonymous

Why would I lie about the Rezound when I don’t even like it?  As I said, I’m waiting for the Nexus, I’m simply relaying the facts that have been presented to all of us about the Razr and the Rezound.  I like Motorola, I’m just suggesting they adopt the idea that making multiple mediocre phones is a poor business model.  It hurts them in sales(like poor sales with both the Razr and Bionic) and it hurts us because we don’t get a nice phone from Motorola.

          • Anonymous

That’s the thing, they actually are nice phones, you’re just too much of a twit and hung up on the locked bootloader and bashing to realize it. No such “facts” have been relayed whatsoever, come back when you can post actual evidence to support your argument. Here’s mine.

yet CNET just rated it the number 1 smartphone of 2011 (4.5) ahead of the Nexus, 4S, and Rezound (all 4)

As the saying goes, “you’re entitled to your opinion, but you’re not entitled to your own facts.”

          • Anonymous

so cnet is fact because one site said it was the best phone? That seems like an opinion right there..

          • Anonymous

Cnet (now actually a part of CBS) has been around and reviewing gadgets longer than most had an Internet connection and have won numerous awards in the process. You don’t have to like them and I don’t visit that often anymore either over the years, but their ‘opinion ‘ matters. Especially more than yours or mine. All reviews are opinions.

Point was, your rambling and bashing of the device and how noone likes it and moto hasn’t made anything good is a vauge false generality that I gave you the first rebuttal off the top of my head to prove otherwise.

          • Anonymous

I wasn’t bashing anything I never used those words, that was another poster. All I said was all reviews r opinions.
