DROID 4 Scheduled to Launch December 8, Same Day as the Galaxy Nexus?

Could the DROID 4 find its way into stores on December 8 alongside the Galaxy Nexus? According to the latest info from our friends at Verizon, that’s exactly what the plan is. Well, the Nexus is still up in the air to our knowledge, so let’s just talk about the D4 for a second.

We gave you the first photos of the newest DROID slider almost a month ago now, followed by a mention in Big Red’s device management system. The idea that it could be released before X-mas was talked about, but we’re not sure that we truly believed it could happen that fast. After all, the RAZR hasn’t even been around long enough to accumulate dust. Motorola, puttin’ in work.

Specs from our sources are as follows:

  • 4″ Super AMOLED Advanced display
  • Full 5-row “illuminated” keyboard
  • RAZR styling
  • 4G LTE
  • Non-removable battery (maybe)
  • Android 2.3.5
  • 1080p video recording (assuming 8MP)
  • Front camera
  • HDMI out
  • MotoACTV syncing

Ready for the world’s first DROID 4G LTE slider?

Cheers ___!

  • Kdicataldo

does anyone know if the Droid 4 will be global?

  • Donna

I am happy that Motorola is coming out with slider key board.  I do not like the touch screens.  They are not for me.  I have been waiting and watching all the new phones coming out, it looks like my next phone will be the Droid 4. I like the feel of the keyboard of the Droid 3 but was waiting to get a 4G phone.

Can we confirm that it’s going to be AMOLED? I had heard it would be qHD TFT.

Less than 6 months later another Droid? No time to perfect any of the phones, just deal with our crap for 6 months and get the Droid 5 July 2012.

  • Butch Yon

Sure hope this is wrong.  A non-removable battery will be the ultimate product killer for the Droid 4.  If this is true, and Moto is going in the direction of FApple with non-removable batteries in all of their newest phones (i.e., Droid RAZR and now this), they will go broke.  You can take that to the bank…

    • Ekard

I hope it’s wrong about the battery too. Sadly, slider fans don’t exactly have much choice on Verizon when it comes to Android sliders. Hopefully, there’s enough complaints from both slider and tablet users to warrant a change.

    • http://twitter.com/Rocko9999 Rocko Smith

90% of people could give a rats ass about removable batteries.

  • STiK

Our rep has a GNex and as of last Tuesday the thing was still plagued with bugs.

  • Chris420o

And the cam is NOT the d3 or bionics cam! Its leaps n bounds better n takes pics almost instantly…agaim..USE THE PHONE FIRST BEFORE YOU TALK NEGATIVE ABOUT IT STOP BEING SHEEP N BELIEVING EVERYTHING U READ..lol its so funny to read these comments

  • Boxman

Moto can make as many phones as they like. Blame Verizon for releasing so many phones with half- ass upgrades. Motorola wouldn’t make it if Verizon didn’t want it, simple as that! While they’ll sell the nexus to appease developers and stock Android enthusiasts, they still don’t want rooted phones on their networks. They’re gonna shove the Moto Droid line down your throat. Sets up nicely for Bogo!

  • Chris420o

People who are criticizing the razr have ZERO idea what their talking about n NEVER used one…just sad moto haters who need to jump off sammy/nexus d*ck…its pathetic people comment here just to hate on moto…the razr is leaps n bounds the best designed/best phone in general ive ever used or seen…if its too wide your def hung like an elevator button sorry to say my “normal man hands” handle the phone perfectly and it feels great i can reach across the screen easier then my bionic bc its so thin despite being a mm wider lol…and the cam hump is a great design feels great helps hold the phone in hand and its literally 2mm thicker not 4 inches…and the screen is great…yeah sammys is better but to the untrained non fanyboys eye its prob not much less then anything out to say its horrible and sucks ias ridiculoisss…u people are pathetic…needless to say ill prob trade in for a nexus i have till jan 20 to do so through my costco connect but its gonna be real hard to let this phone go

      ^comment of the year

  • Crackmonkeys4hire

If I was running Moto I’d come out with a phone that combines the best specs of the Razr and the Nexus. I really like the sturdiness and signal quality of the Moto’s but then Nexus has Android 4.0 ICS and a few other nice features. Moto could really blow away all competition if it put Nexus features in a Razr and gave it a replaceable battery and 32GB SD card.

  • PikTik

This is good. Slider phones aren’t really competing with non-sliders anyway. Completely different targets.

    • Anonymous

I would get the D4 over Nexus any day IF the D4 had a bootloader than can be unlocked :)

      • http://twitter.com/Rocko9999 Rocko Smith

The bootloader deal is done, quit bitching about it. It’s never going to happen. Move on.

  • Lambert

Since this has LTE and hopefully more RAM than the D3, I’ll be getting it. When it comes to sliders there really isn’t much choice out there. I would have gotten the D3 if I didn’t have LTE where I live. The Stratosphere didn’t have dual core and it seem like Samsung would support it even less than their other phones.

The razr blew the galaxy nexus out of the water, and the droid 4 is going to do the same :)

    • debits and credits

I can’t wait to turn in my razr, the screen gives me headaches. Slick design though, but the bulk of the phone (screen) is just not for me. Perhaps its just my eyes

      • Anonymous

You need to check your eyes, the bionic display is bad not the razor.

        • debits and credits

My eyes are just fine. Don’t take my personal preference in phone screens as a personal attack, because that’s just sad.

          • Anonymous

I didn’t, I just thought you were wrong. The razor display is awesome. I have the bionic as well and I am not a fan of the pentile.

          • http://whitemarket.freeforums.org/ Avery Dejuan Herron

You do know that the razor users a pintile as well right just a different kind.

          • Anonymous

Yea and do does the nexus. The amoled makes the pentile not noticeable.

no it didn’t, its not even released yet silly.

      • Anonymous

It already did, look at all the problems in the nexus.

        • Anonymous

what problems? the phone is not released in the states. there are no problems known, in the verizon variant atleast ;p

          • Anonymous

It’s a Samsung come on, what do you expect?

          • Anonymous

from samsung, i expect a great phone with good specs, which is exactly what this phone is. and no i don’t expect crappy gps or radios. because those are the least of my concerns. if they actually work it should not be a problem.

          • Anonymous

Samsung is like a second option. You will have crappy gps, radios and plastic feel.

          • Anonymous

like i said the phone is not released and you have no proof of any sort that the phone actually has these issues. this conversation is not going anywhere because you have no possible way of proving if the phone actually does have a crappy gps or radio.

I just hope the camera is better than the one on the Razr!

  • Duck Dodgers

Who still wants a slider phone? It’s like wanting a “flip” phone.

    • Anonymous

some people don’t want to figure out how to use an virtual keyboard, and continue to live in the past while the rest of us get all the good phones.

      • debits and credits

I prefer a physical keyboard because I frequently communicate with clients via email and need to have professional formatting, etc…

  • Anonymous

Just too funny….couple weeks back I mentioned tongue in cheek that with all the delays of the Nexus that Moto would somehow squeeze another phone in there before the Nexus was released…and then I read this. Unreal…just unreal. This thing will be in hands before the friggin Nexus!!!!

  • Demarco575

Is there any chance this phone will get ics sometime in the future?

    • Anonymous

yes, the future. only time will tell. but yes it will eventually.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_4NH3SS5BT44HRIX3XCOAB7UXUI Sam

Well the RAZR is getting ICS in Q1 2012 supposedly, so I’m sure the D4 will get it as well

  • Anonymous

they shouldn’t have even released a droid 3 or a bionic if they had plans for better phones to be released only a few months after.

  • Up2bKrzy

I wouldn’t hold my breathe on a 12/8 release for either. Word traveling is VZW will not ship/sell the Nexus before the wk of 12/12

  • Anonymous

Is this going to have blur? Because the hardware keys on the bottom seem different than previous moto devices.

    • Anonymous

its the same buttons as on the razr. also this phone has zero chance of not shipping with blur.

  • Kcbutler

I’ve been looking –tried D3:too big !–and waiting for a phys.Qwerty w/o feeling like I was carrying suitcase around at my waist. Loved my Palm Pre Plus, but its hardware bit the dust, so I reverted to my old Samsung Alias feature phone. It has a tiny Qwerty keyboard that works fine…but,it’s got drawbacks. I got acclimated to Android w/ my treasured Sam.Tablet, and now I can hopefully rest assured that VZW will come across again ! Live in the country away from any 4g, but that’s no problem.Hey, we all travel once in a while so I’ll get to use it until they bring LTE to the nearest city, Kalamazoo, Mi.

  • Chris

Well no need for the galaxy nexus anymore, can type so much faster on keyboard (without looking for driving) and dont gotta worry about having a 4.7 inch beast in my hand

Realistically, I’m waiting for rev. 2 LTE chips before jumping on the bandwagon.  Esp. since my look at the Droid 4 indeed showed a non-removable battery.  No way to “juice it up” with an extended battery.

I find it hard to believe, however, that they would drop this baby so soon after the Droid 3.

    • Loki

I’m waiting for single chip LTE/CDMA chips too. When that comes out, it’ll replace my Droid 4 :)

  • Anonymous

Nasty. Who the hell uses a keyboard anymore? ANother Moto clone.

  • Huv

Getting da Ice Cream sangwich too 4 Droid 4? Zee Ice Cream sangwich?

  • Colby

Any word on weather it will have 1gb of ram? I am feeling the 500mb of ram on my d3 with certain games. If it has 1gb ram, removeable battery, hd screen and a better camera…I will happily buy it outright to replace my d3. I would prefer it to stay a global phone too…but I a not holding my breath.

    • Jordan

I don’t know about all that ram stuff but the weather is pretty fair down here in the southeast.
