Video: Galaxy Nexus Volume Controls Gone Wild, Only on 2G Though

YouTube Preview Image

Recently purchased the UK version of the Galaxy Nexus? Be sure to stay out of 2G signal areas or you may run into the whacky volume control issue you are seeing in the video above. That’s right, the HSPA version of the Galaxy Nexus in the UK is toying with its owners when they leave an area with a strong data connection.

This issue likely does not exist on the U.S. LTE version, but we won’t really know for a couple of weeks since we are looking at December 8 as a potential release date. I wouldn’t get all worked up about this though. With the device still getting its final software tweaks, you can bet that it will be fixed before we ever see it.

i liked how at the end someone randomly emerges from behind the phone

  • http://www.facebook.com/mariafe.c.oneill Maria Fe Camaya O’Neill

This is no big deal. Other phones have been released recently with much bigger problems than this. What’s that thing that keeps the doctor away?

  • http://profiles.google.com/unzicker.daniel Daniel U.

No wonder they pushed back the release date

  • Zeadaplaya

Still better than all other options out there. Razr, meh, only qHD screen.
Rezound, dont even get me started about the battery life issues in HTC phones..
People are just butthurt because theres no Removable SD slot or jumped the gun on the Razr/Rezound.

    • Kierra

Well isnt that a valid reason?
I really dont get your rationale.

      Everyone’s preferences arent the same

      • http://twitter.com/Transhawn Tran-Shawn Yu

I think what 6895533 is getting at is the fact that zeadaplaya is saying HTC phones have bad battery life in general.. having no direct experience with the rezounds battery life is not a valid reason.

    • 6895533

if you have not had the phone for a day and tried the battery life on it dnt say anything because i  had the rezound for 3 days and the battery gets me through the whole day with normal use the phone that you can go ahead and talk about the battery is the thunderbolt lol i use to get 3 hours of battery life on it

  • Dbarden31

If Verizon would have gotten the SGII I would not be stressing over a phone. Instead, I would be playing with it right now!

All you guys that are “giving up” on the Nexus before it is released are lame.

If you need a phone now then fine, get what you think is best and pay the $35 restocking fee if the Nexus tickles your fancy when it comes out. If it doesn’t then you are golden. If you don’t have the money for a restocking fee then wait it out or shut up and buy something else and live with it (If you can buy a $300 phone you should be able to handle the restocking fee if you are impatient).

You have the chance to see the three best phones that will come out in a while. Stop being impatient and let the third come out. You know the Nexus will be here for the Holidays, Google is not going to let that happen. The Razr may be awesome but it still has GingerBlur and not ICS. the Razr won’t be getting BlurCreamSandwich until at least April and you know it. If your happy with Gingerbread go for it, but don’t for one damn second EVER complain that the Moto is taking too long to release ICS with Blur on the Razr because you were too impatient to wait for a phone with ICS and “gave up” on it because it had these insignificant problems in other countries or hardware that is supported differently then your used too.

    • Kierra

Ugh…I’m starting to feel like I should just keep my razr and be happy with it …the only downfall is the battery for me I just bought at external battery pack from Verizon that’s pretty small and viable option. But I don’t know if it will be enough for me to stay away from a nexus :-/

  • Clevelandrocks

Leta just face the facts, everyone in the world has a set date when this phone is coming out. All but the great u.s. of a. Verizon sucks and doesn’t want to sell this phone. Google has said that one pure google phone will come out a year. One to each carrier. Verizon needed something to compete with the *phone so they were ok with selling the moto droid. Now that the droid franchise is a success they don’t want anything to disturb that. Verizon is going to hold off as long as they can to sell this phone (if they even do) and show limited ad time. Find another carrier or pick another phone.

    • Anonymous

It kind of sucks because my buying power will go to some Verizon phone and if it doesn’t Verizon will make more money because I’m not dropping their service….

So all I can really do it screw Google/Samsung in this situation…

So buying the original Verizon vanilla flagship android phone (Droid, Android 2.0) and waiting for the next vanilla flagship phone (Galaxy Nexus, Android 4.0) and being fed up with the delay’s makes me an idiot?  Must be a lot of idiots on this site then.

        You’re a troll.

        • Anonymous

No its just your “I dont care whats wrong with it just take my money!” attitude that makes you an idiot. You’re a sheep, Im surprised you dont have an iPhone to be honest.

          • Anonymous

Sorry if I don’t like the idea of spending $300 to buy some HTC or Moto phone with Sh*tware all over it which causes me to have to to root and flash it with some ROM that a group of tweens made in their parents basements.  I don’t trust that.  I’m on a custom ROM now but I’m not big on the idea,  I just did it to keep my phone going, not because it’s the cool thing for all the dorks to do.

          • Kixofmyg0t

Wait a second, let me get this straight. You have a OG Droid that you ROM’ed…. yet the people who make make ROM’s are “teens in their parents basement”. You sir are sadly misinformed and a hypocrite.

To be fair, though, he’s not an idiot just because he wants the damn phone already, regardless of flaws. I’m feeling pretty similar right about now.

“Delay’s” implies possession, ownership. The delays do not own anything, they are intangible ideas. “Delays” implies plurality, in that there are multiple delays. Which there have been.

Actually, this is a grammar mistake, not a spelling one.

When I say typo I mean a mistake in writing made unintentionally when the writer knows better.
I never said spelling mistake so meh

Well, of course, it was a “typo”. Either way, pots shouldn’t be calling kettles black. If you’re going to call someone an idiot, don’t come off as one.

          • Kierra

            WTH are you talking about?
I said it was a typo. I never said spelling mistake.

            Maybe you’re confused.
            You’re forgiven :)

          • http://www.facebook.com/japultra Jason Nguyen

It looks like you’re the confused one. Your response to my last post made no sense. Also, last I checked, it was perfectly suitable to assume “typo” means spelling mistake.

          • http://twitter.com/Justinwrites Justin True Anderson

Point of fact, it is a spelling mistake.  Because the word was spelled incorrectly, the sentence otherwise followed grammatical rules.  Unless you believe they honestly don’t know the difference between your and you are, in that case it would be a grammatical error.  If you have to be a grammar Nazi, know the difference or you give the rest of us grammar Nazis a bad name.

          • http://www.facebook.com/japultra Jason Nguyen

Actually, many people DO NOT know the difference. This is why they make the same error over and over and over. This is why I do not consider it a spelling mistake, but rather one of grammar. I am assuming that if you asked them to spell “you’re”, the contraction, that they would spell it correctly, yet when they use it in a sentence, their mind doesn’t understand that they’re using the incorrect form. It then becomes an issue of grammar. That’s how I see it, anyway.

          • Greg Williams

I think you mean grab some grammar, as his use of your/you’re wasn’t spelled incorrectly, just used incorrectly. Also, isn’t a thesaurus used for finding similar words? Maybe you need a dictionary?

This alone should hold the phone up.  I can’t see Verizon standing behind a device that does something like this. Maybe all the extra QC is worth it, someone should ask Woz if his does this.

    • http://twitter.com/GRZLA Grizzly Atoms

2G in Europe works on the 900MHz frequency. Verizon works off the 850MHz frequency, it shouldn’t be an issue here in the US. Quit the fear mongering.

      • Stating El Obvious

What a stupid correlation to make.

  • http://www.facebook.com/rickmue Rick Mueller

I think i’m done.  After reading more reviews and considering other hardware issues, I think I’m getting the Rezound.  With the Nexus not having an sd card, questionable build quality, and sammies history of not the greatest 4g antenna .. I think I’m gonna opt for the rezound and the strong LTE antenna.  I’ll be in the store day 1 to play with one .. but I’ve about had enough with this Nexus debacle.

    • Haycaramba

Yeah i think i’m done with the Nexus too.  Razr instead whenever it drops in price, no way in hell i’m buying it for 750.00.   so hopefully that happens around the time ICS comes out.

The lack of SD card has nagged me for a while but now this little bit I just read from engadget bummed me out more, i can’t use my phone as a USB drive, that was a biggy for me. i love using that card to carry around large files and it’s always to macs.

However the cost is that Android can no longer ever yield up the storage for the host PC to molest directly over USB. Instead we use MTP. On Windows (which the majority of users use), it has built-in MTP support in Explorer that makes it look exactly like a disk. On Linux and Mac it’s sadly not as easy, but I have confidence that we’ll see some work to make this better.

Razr is a penny on Amazon…

        • Ahsan

          Only with a new contract.

        • need a new phone

looking forward to buying a new phone would the razr do or should i still wait for the galaxy nexus??

          • Anonymous

Wait till the nexus comes out and play with both of them and see what makes you happier. Best advice I can give.

          • need a new phone

thanks for the advice, but is the razr worth it? because its $.01 on amazon right now it looks like a good deal to me but still iffy whether its a good deal

          • Anonymous

I personally believe everyone should use the phone their happiest with, I stress that alot, having said that I love the RAZR yes. Probably the first phone that makes me feel LTE is ready for primetime. If you don’t mind the non removable battery, I don’t… (and really it is removable, it’s not hardwired or anything it’s just a pain to take the phone apart) then absolutely worth the. 01$. It doesn’t compromise anywhere else to me. Once its updated to ICS it should really shine. Battery life is good, reception and clarity is fantastic, very light and thin and sturdy, love the on off switch on the side, Motocast works well if that’s your thing, the camera is good enough but could be better. It loads and snaps Damn near instant and the panoramic mode is neat. I find the screen to be very nice, colors are awesome, and I hated the bionic pentile. Still not as good as the GSII SAMOLED Plus, but pretty much better than anything else. Is there a specific concern you had?

          • need a new phone

No not really, just couldn’t decide on whether i should keep playing the waiting game for the galaxy nexus, but i guess that basing on everything you said i think i’ll go with the razr. Oh and by the way, if i do purchase the razr, where would i go to find out how to root it to remove the bloatware? or should i just wait for ICS to arrive?

Once again thanks for your info!

          • Anonymous

Alot of it can be uninstalled like the games or hidden without any root. The root method is very easy was posted here a week ago, or check out xda or droidforums for a bigger discussion. I would caution against flashing some of the roms floating around as there’s no safety net (SBF bootloader image) yet if something goes wrong, so a brick would be bricked for a while. Probably a good 2 months still to ICS so don’t wait for that but the RAZR will prob be one of the first if not first non nexus phone to officially see it of the phones out right now. May even have CM9 by then.

          • need a new phone

Alright well i think im going give tha razr a go, thanks for your help zep its much appreciated.

      • http://www.facebook.com/rickmue Rick Mueller

yeah .. the USB mass storage thing is not sitting well with me either.  really struggling with waiting for this thing .. or taking the plunge.  i guess i could always eat the $35 restocking fee.  anyway .. one thing I do know for sure; I am sick of the Nexus roller coaster!

        • Anonymous

You can still hook it to a PC and put files on the phone. It uses MTP just like HC does. I put files on my xoom all the time even before we had sd card support.

        • Anonymous

Dude theirs an easy fix for the SD card woes.

Just hold ur Galaxy Nexus next to a SD card and the “ZOMG TEH NFC!!!” will make it have SD card support. Or you could take a nice “ZERO LAG” picture of a thumb drive and maybe it will “ZOMG TEH NFC” you some USB mass storage support.

OMGeez but there are so many other things like like….

No SDcard  means I can’t pull out my storage when I need to… Well I don’t need to but I had the option on my OG

No HMDI port means I have to use the desktop dock like I was already going to to hook it up to my TV

No Gorilla Glass means I don’t have some cool catchy wording to tell my friends my screen is strong. Could you imagine when I tell people my phone is only fortified glass that works just as well??? Bye bye social life.

If this has some random bug on 2G in another country on a phone without LTE imagine what could happen when you multiply the G’s x2!?!?!

No release date means I’m impatient and grouchy like a girl PMSing….

well … atleast the release of this phone IS a debacle.  but, i guess what I really meant was this phone is NOT the only game in town. I love that it is pure Android … but that is where the love stops.  A lot of other things about the phone knock it off its pedestal. With work, pure Android can be had on other devices, so that appears to be the direction I will go.

        • Anonymous

How has the release been a debacle?  Verizon has never given us a release date.  They had 2 flagship devices come out within a week of each other, maybe they just wanted to stretch their portfolio into December, makes business sense.  I don’t like it anymore than anyone else, but Verizon is in charge of the release, it’s not the phone or Google’s fault we don’t have it in our hands today.

  • Michael Allis

What with all the testing that Verizon’s been doing, perhaps it’s something much more frustrating than this.

    #groan

  • http://www.facebook.com/japultra Jason Nguyen

    I’ll take it anyway.

  • Anonymous

Hopefully this isn’t hardware related like early reports on XDA are saying. A recall on it would be horrible for Samsung. At least since it only affects 2G, Verizon won’t delay it…..right?……RIGHT? hahahahahaaha

    • Anonymous

The device probably needs more shielding.  The controls are most likely being interfered with by the cell service.  The good news is that the Verizon one will work on the 850 MHz band and not the 900 MHz one.
