Grid Live Wallpaper – Enhancing Your Home Screens One Page at Time

We got an app submission from the developer of Grid Live Wallpaper over the weekend and are impressed.  As live wallpaper fanatics, this is right up our alley. Through this app, you can set up a variety of different screens and looks by selecting a picture, color, shape scheme, etc. As you flip through them all, you will see the grid transition that the app derives its name from. The adjustments to make this 100% your own are almost endless in the settings section of the app. It’s very snazzy.  For just 99 cents, Grid Live Wallpaper appears to be worth it.  The app itself reminds us a lot of the Light Grid live wallpapers, which we love.  Go have at it.

Try combining that effect with LauncherPro’s “flip” screen transition effect… Should be interesting.

My OG got soaked by my girlfriend’s beer (putting the relationship on ice) and this makes me go through withdrawal…

It looks really nice! Thanks to the developers which succeeded to implement a good idea into a wonderful application. It’s a very good example of creating a qualitative application.

Pictures don’t seem to be displaying properly :( I am guessing I need to adjust each picture I want to use the resolution of my display?

    • Anonymous

Yes, sorry. Right now the application merely stretches the image to fill the the screen resolution. I plan to add an option in a future update to crop to the appropriate aspect ratio.

Hey Dev, does this work with seven screens on Go Launcher?

    • Anonymous

I have not tested specifically on the Go Launcher, but the app supports up to 10 screens.

      • webby

Go Launcher is a widely used home replacement.  I’d suggest you test with it.  Due to the 15 minute return window allowed by Google, I won’t buy your app unless I know for sure that it works with it.

        Good luck with your app.

  • Lanzajaz

    Is this for SG2 ?

    • Anonymous

Developer here: I tested on my friend’s Galaxy S2 it seemed to work great. Let me know if you run into any problems.

      • Lanzajaz

I have downloaded the app, but can’t find it anywhere in my phone. Should it show up in the Apps ? Or somewhere else ?

        • Anonymous

You do not run the app from your launcher. Instead, go to your homescreen. Click the menu button on your phone. Then select “Wallpaper” -> “Live Wallpaper”, and there you should see Grid Live Wallpaper.

          • Lanzajaz

Damn I looked in there but missed it as it was in the middle of some other..stuff :-)

Ok, I have the menu screen/setup I was looking for. Thanks again ! :-)

showin some love to the OG Droid

  • Russ

DOH! Doesn’t work on Sense 3.5 (HTC Rezound).

    • Anonymous

Does it crash, or just not work properly? If it’s a crash, please submit a report with some information about what you did that caused the crash. If it’s just a weird bug, then can you describe what the problem is?

      Thank you!

      • Russ

It just doesn’t change between page flips. I get one wallpaper and nothing else. No crashes, just no cool animation. I might as well just have a static wallpaper.

        • Anonymous

I am sorry. Apparently many Sense 3.5 phones are experiencing similar issues. I will try to find a phone for testing as soon as possible.

  • Russ

Very nice! Is there a way to reduce the delay between screen flips and when the transition starts?

    • Anonymous

Yes, in the settings there is are two options “Flip Speed” and “Flip Delay.”

“Flip Speed” changes the rotation speed of each shape. Increasing the number makes the shapes rotate faster.

“Flip Delay” changes the time delay before the animation begins. Lowering this number makes the shapes begin the animation faster.

I just wanna say to shpen its good to see a developer here sifting through all the comments helping everyone out. +1 to you and I will have to buy this app now

    • Anonymous

Thanks! I want to make sure the app works on as many phones as possible. Right now, a lot of Sense phones seem to have issues, so I’m trying to figure out why.

The more crash reports and information the better!

  • Jason Miner

To the developer:  May be an obvious question but this will run on a stock phone won’t it?  I mean without a special launcher installed.  Looks fantastic man, great job!

    • Anonymous

Yes, it does not require a special launcher.

  • bigrob60

How does his Droid handle that?

    • Anonymous

The shapes are rendered using OpenGL which is hardware accelerated. My Droid is overclocked to 1.2 GHz, but when I clocked it back to 600MHz, it still seemed to run at a good speed.

  • droidxethan

this does not work with MIUI thunderbolt :(

Please submit a crash report and explain what you did when it crashed.

      Thank you!

Thats an awesome wallpaper.. And I love the OG Droid love. It just made my Monday a little brighter.

lol couldn’t help but laugh, “This is a cat turning into a pineapple.”

    Looks like a great app.

  • Christophernapier

Its not working on my Droid X, s any one else having this problem?

    • Anonymous

Developer here: Is it crashing, or just not working properly? If crashing, please submit a crash report with details explaining when it happened. If it’s just not working properly, can you explain what’s wrong?

    • Anonymous

Please download the new update. Let me know if it fixes your force-close problems.
      Thank you.

  • Ericmarkwilliams

FC on Rezound with Sense 3.5 sorry had to refund.

    • Anonymous

Developer here: Some phones have been issues with large images. I hope you sent a crash report, otherwise finding a solution becomes difficult :

      • Ericmarkwilliams

It opened fine when it was on it’s default launcher selection but when I chose Sense and selected 7 screens it bugged out and FC. Every time I tried to open the settings it FC. The problem is with Sense 3.5 you have to “preview” it before you get the settings option. When you select preview it FC never allowing you to get into the settings. As a side note before it started to FC it looked great on the 720 screen with HD wallpaper..

        • Anonymous

Ah, ok. I think I know what’s happening. It’s trying to render the images twice. Once for the preview, and once for the actual live wallpaper. This is causing the app to run out of memory and force close. I’ll see if I can figure out a way to stop it from duplicating the memory requirements.

          Thanks for the info!

          • Ericmarkwilliams

Thank you for being on this post. It’s nice to see a Dev care enough for his/her product to listen!!!!

He mentioned something about large images and Sense. Submit a bug report!

  • Triplec76

To the developer: Does this app have the ability to scroll through a selection of wallpapers, kind of like those billboards or whatever? If it doesn’t, it should be an option as I don’t change screens all that often, but I get tired of a particular wallpaper after a short time.

    • Anonymous

No, the application does not currently have that option. How would this work, exactly? Would you want it to rotate only on it’s own, or also when swiping between screens?

      • Triplec76

Timed, I was thinking. Enter value for time between wallpaper switching. Another option for either a directory of desired set of wallpapers or a way to select multiple ones out of a larger directory.

        • http://twitter.com/Jason13L Jason Lassourreille

This is exactly what I was thinking for a feature I would like. There are a couple images I would like to have it rotate through say ever x minutes. I don’t use home screens as much as other people it seems so I generally stay on the “home” screen (1). Would like to see maybe 3 or 4 pictures rotate on touch or time.

i can’t find it in the market????

i searched “Grid live wallpaper”    am i doing something wrong??

  • Anonymous

As the developer of this application, I am really excited about this! This is the first application I have published, so it’s great to see the community appreciating it.

    Thanks everyone!

    • Peter Kelly

Thanks for the nifty app.  Enjoy the buck!  Or, at least most of one.

      • Anonymous

Really great job man…definitely buying! What’s 100 pennies among Android enthusiasts? :)

    • http://www.tedpavlic.com/ Ted Pavlic

Nice idea, but force closes immediately when I try to pick a photo from a Picasa album in the gallery (i.e., an album sync’d from Picasa and not stored on the phone). Ever since then, won’t display wallpapers for screens 3 and up (“missing wallpaper” even after choosing them).

OG DROID running GPA19. Had to install. Unfortunately, the amount of time it took to pick wallpapers 1 through 5 AND deal with f/c’s means that I wasn’t able to refund in time. :(

      • Anonymous

I didn’t know that the gallery could link to a Picasa album, so I don’t have a way to currently download an image. That’s is what is causing the crash in that case. I am working on a solution.

As far as the problem with wallpapers not showing up, I am not quite sure what the cause is. I am still looking into it. For now, try disabling the wallpaper (pick a static 1 image wallpaper) and then re-enable Grid Live Wallpaper. Does that cause your images to show up correctly?

  • Hedney3

Looks good. I think i may have to give this a try

  • droidxethan

i wonder how this is on battery?

    • Anonymous

Developer here: The application only uses CPU when swiping between screens. Otherwise, it’s displaying a static image.

  • Anonymous

    Somebody give me a $1

  • GNex

Always enjoyed live, but figured it would take precious battery life from the current gnex predecessor, tbolt.

Do u think these papes take significant batt?
