New Google Music App Available In The Android Market – Goodbye Beta

Google has gone ahead and pushed out the updated Google Music application to the Android Market.  The service is now out of beta mode and is ready for the masses to use and share.  Google has kept the service as free and offers individuals the ability to upload and store up to 20,000 songs on to Google’s secure servers. Thanks, Google.  Be sure to go grab it while it is fresh out of the oven.

What’s in this version:

1. Google Music is now out of beta and is open to all users without an invitation. Upload up to 20,000 songs from your personal music collection to Google Music and listen instantly on all your devices.

2. Seamless integration with the Android Market music store. All your purchases automatically appear in the Google Music app.

Another reason why I like Google.

Still patiently awaiting the Now Playing queue on the Google music app.
So far the only advantage i see over the Amazon’s cloud player is the size of online library available for free.

  • Joe Cross

Anybody else think we need in-line mic and button control?

  • StormbladeX69

If you are using the leaked Music v4.0.1, you will need to UNINSTALL IT FIRST, as it was signed with a different Google key. The install will fail until you do this.

Ill just stick to Motocast, Have fun on this iTunes wanna-b service with the GN !

2101 songs uploading now. how long should this take, a week? i can tell its using up all my CPU, since chrome keeps slowing down and crashing.

  • Anonymous

Anyone who has installed, is there thumbs up and down like there were in the leak?

  • http://fujibayashi.jp/ Gasai Yuno

“is open to all users without an invitation” oh really?

“This item cannot be installed in your device’s country.”

    “on to Google’s secure servers”

are there lock screen controls for the music player? i can’t seem to find any setting for enabling this and it’s pretty irritating. love everything else though. on a rooted droid x.

    • Anonymous

Can’t have lock screen controls when every phone’s lock screen differs.  They added a universal lock screen music controller with api in ICS but you’ll need to be on ICS to use it obviously.

  • Irrational Man

It won’t allow me to sync my DRM’d music?! So basically I was an absolute moron for legitimately BUYING my music because now I cannot use it, while someone who pirates his music can use it everywhere…

Lesson learned, thanks Google Music!(╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻

    • Anonymous

Are you saying the music you got from google’s store is DRMed?  Or music with DRM you bought from somewhere else?

    • Crogers828

I got error messages on some music that said “DRM in file” ???

  • Anonymous

Okay so I purchased music (free tracks as a test) but they don’t show up under my purchases nor do they download onto my device.  What am I missing?  Accounts are set to sync and “music” is checked.

those getting errors dl here http://www.multiupload.com/TD5XL210Y1

  • KevinC

does it work with wma files yet?

  • Anonymous

is it possible for other apps like PowerAmp to sync with Google Music?

    • Anonymous

Nope, not until Google makes an api for other developers to use.

      • Anonymous

Do you think they would let them?

        • Anonymous

Maybe in the future but I think they’re going to limit it to their music app for now.

  • http://profiles.yahoo.com/u/RXFWXDUWRRHCGFV6NP2SDZ7YLU Ray

not working on rooted devices just like the google video app apparently we will need a rooted version http://lockerz.com/s/156782418

    • Anonymous

      Same problem here.

    • Anonymous

Works fine on my CM7 Incredible 2.  You need to uninstall the 3.x or 4.x beta or leak first or you will get this error.

      • Anonymous

It sucks because Liberty3 has Music installed as the default music app, so I can’t just remove it.

        • http://profiles.yahoo.com/u/RXFWXDUWRRHCGFV6NP2SDZ7YLU Ray

dont do it i did removed it using root explorer and now i cant install it a get a invalid update error

          • Anonymous

Likely you will have to delete the Music.apk from /system/app and then reboot and install from market.  If you can’t reinstall from the market, androidpolice has the new apk posted that you could then rename to Music.apk and copy to /system/app, reboot and it should be there.

          • http://profiles.yahoo.com/u/RXFWXDUWRRHCGFV6NP2SDZ7YLU Ray

thanks dude i had the leaked version with a different signed key

          • Anonymous

            You’re welcome.  Glad to help.

        • Nate

I removed it JRummy’s ROM Toolbox. New music app installed fine after.

          • Anonymous

Cool, I’ll do that.  ROM Toolbox rocks.

          • Anonymous

Worked, except now there isn’t a Music widget.  Bummer!

      • http://profiles.yahoo.com/u/RXFWXDUWRRHCGFV6NP2SDZ7YLU Ray

great thanks for the advice now i removed it and cant install it back at all!

ah. him. apparently he makes that joke? he’s funny as hell. sorry to him i guess.

          • EC8CH

His version involves fornicating with the baby of Brad Pitt and David Beckham, but that’s just because Daniel Tosh is gay.

          • Anonymous

            I see….

I don’t get it. I updated the Google Music app and it’s just the same thing as before, only shows what’s on my SD card. I went to Android Market on my phone after updating that and see nothing about music. Do I have to have the new Market installed before the music options will show up on my phone?

    • Stephen

you should clear the data in your music app, then launch it again.  It’ll give you the option to add accounts in settings.

      • Anonymous

Thanks, and just noticed in the other topic that Kellex said we will need an actual new Market before we can see it offered on our phones.

        • Stephen

Mine is working just fine…I think he meant to download music we;ll need the new market

They fixed the landscape rotation resetting to the now playing screen any time you rotate the screen, but we still don’t have scrolling song titles.  Why should I have to pull down my notifications to see a long song name?  The app at least should scroll, and the widget would be nice too.

I also get artifacting really bad when changing orientation and also briefly when opening the app.  That happened in the 4.0.1 leak as well though.

  • GreenGarden

    first!

  • Domikinzu

    “package not signed correctly”.
I deleted my themed version (4.01), but NOW it says that app already exists on my phone.

    ummm, no it doesn’t. I just deleted/rebooted.  Something’s borked.

    • Anonymous

      Bjork’ed – music pun ftw.

      • Domikinzu

        nice!

What’s the advantage of using Google Music rather than Amazon?

    • Andrew Hewitt

      20,000 songs…. for free…..

      • Anonymous

I guess you haven’t used amazon music as they have thousands of songs for free for years now….
Look, I love amazon but I’m going to buy where ever it is sold cheapest (sans itunes) and then upload it to whichever service is best (I’ve been using Amazon for now but if Google Music is much better I don’t mind switching as my music is organized very well in folders on my computer). And then syncing it to my Zune  HD which IMHO is still the best music player.

        • caseyisajim

I am glad you are very organized.

          • Anonymous

y thank you, I had to be… I started with the Rio PMP3000 (which had a whooping 32mb of on board storage) moved to the creative nomads then to iriver H100.

          • Chad

Nice to see someone else that remembers what a Creative Nomad is. People would always ask me if it was a portable CD player because it was the exact same shape…

        • Anonymous

I’ve been farting around with it and I immediatley noticed no lock screen controls.  Poop!  I liked the lock screen controls from my stock Razr music app

    • caseyisajim

Because by using Google Music instead of Amazon Cloud Player, it allows you to use a cloud based music app that starts with “G” and rhymes with “oogle music.”  Other than that, the advantages are unclear at this point.

      • Anonymous

        lol, gotcha

is not available in my country can someone share the APK?

I had to uninstall beta of app, then installed fine

    • Anonymous

Uninstall your Music app and try installing again. It should work then.
