Galaxy Nexus Talk: More Verizon Training Info, Potential Retail Price of $500, and A Release Date of November 21?

We tossed out a story just a few hours ago showing that Verizon’s training for the Samsung Galaxy Nexus had started and wanted to show you further proof that just landed in our inbox. The training to our knowledge, doesn’t include a release date and is mostly just an overview of Ice Cream Sandwich and G-Nex features that we all saw during last month’s shenanigans. So nothing spectacular in there, but VZW is indeed getting their employees ready for the launch that we have all been trying so hard to remain patient for.

After the break though, we have one more training slide, and then we’ll dive into some interesting notes from this contest that Google just launched. Potential price and release date? Yessir.

Ok, with that out of the way, let’s talk potential price first. You see in the “Prizes” section of the contest rules that we pulled below – that ARV of $500? That’s a number we are finding to be fascinating. Most of the time when companies hold these contests, we get the exact full retail value listed there, so this should get you incredibly excited. Remember the contest for the Bionic that listed $589.99 as the ARV? That is still the actual retail price of that phone to this day. Could Verizon and Google decide to up that to the $649 price that the RAZR, iPhone and Rezound are at when it is finally released? It certainly seems like they will have to, but one can hope we stay that low. And what if Google decides they just want to undercut the heck out of anyone and only offer the phone off-contract at $500? Sign everyone up?

What about a release date? As Dan mentioned in the contest post, the giveaway of the G-Nex ends on November 21. Where have we seen that date before? Well, we brought that date to you in the most recent Verizon roadmap that showed the phone as landing on that day via the “web only.” Seems fitting that the contest would end on the day that the phone is released, doesn’t it? Most of these contests do.

Now, that was a lot of hypebeasting for sure, but these contests have proven to be reliable resources enough times in the past that we shouldn’t completely look beyond everything that we just pointed out. Remember that this is all speculation and nothing is official until Big Red makes it official. It almost sounds too good to be true – crossing fingers for the next week and a half is recommended.

Cheers ___, JFMFT, Matthew and Mark!

is $500 a lot of money? yup. is it an excellant price for the top of the line phone compared to its competitors? absolutely. if ya dont wanna spend the green, it’s all good, but stfu when other people are happy that this phone is actually very reasonably priced compared to the other comparable phones.

  • YesIamFirst

    FIRST!

Come on COSTCO!, just re activated my account for the $25 off and $100+ worth of accessories.

  • Matt2783

I don’t think it will retail for $500, but if it does I’m not paying $300 with my upgrade.

  • Anonymous

So the Nexus crowd and the cheap crowd seem to appear on the same Venn Diagram.  You use these things more than a computer, but aren’t will to pay half or a third of the price?

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Justin-Giles/24615546 Justin Giles

pretty sure $600 is the same price I paid for my computer but Im definitely not complaining, even if its $300 with 2 yr contract, this phone is the best piece of technology available, so I agree, what are people complaining about???

  • Anonymous

what is with these monday releases?  the Rezound on the 14th, now possibly the GNex a week later on the 21st.  Could VZW be changing their release dates for next year?

  • Bionic

I’m gonna go have sex with my wife instead of read more speculation. Have a good night everyone.

      You’re definitely not alone there.

    • joejoe509

I’m glad someone admitted it. I was ashamed that I fell for it.  lol

  • Anonymous

If it is $500 full retail I cannot see them justifying a $299 contract price. Doubt verizon would do that but hey maybe google helped with lowering the cost of the phone some.

  • Anonymous

There has been more speculation regarding this device … and I can’t get enough :-P

  • Granted

I know it’s only speculation until it actually happens, but can anyone explain to me why this phone might be “web-only”? That whole thing just confuses the shit out of me. I keep up with the phone world as you can see by my abhorrent posts, but I don’t remember another phone being “web-only”? What are the advantages of then offering it only on the web? And will they have more stock available for this phone because it’s on the web, or will it sell out in five seconds, because that is what I worry about? I’m too damn busy to sit at the damn computer or tablet and keep hitting refresh while I try to out buy the masses when it goes on sale. I just don’t get the web only part, is that because it’s a developer phone and they think it won’t sell well in stores and only phone nerds will want to buy it? Weigh in if you please, if not, eat my lovely pee pee, and thank you in advance to any serious responses because I cannot always reply in timely manner. Drawing and murdering people is quite the time consuming career. Toodles.

    • Anonymous

It will be in stores and they already have the cases and accessories.

If they were to begin by selling web only it would only be for a short time.

    • http://profiles.google.com/legionthefecalexcretion LegionFecalExcretion aire

It wont be web only, there wouldn’t be accessories in stores if that was the case.

  • No

Depends on what you’d consider to be”too expensive” for new smartphone cost; But after using the DX since day of public release, i’m more than willing to shell out $300 for an icecream sandwich nexus device (+ LTE) on Verizon.

  • Corruptt1

Yeah this is most likely the GSM version. $569 off contract price for the GSM model. Why would Google sell a Verizon “exclusive” through a contest. and we already saw that the LTE version will be $299 on contract so theres no way off contract it would be anywhere close to only $500.

    • Anonymous

They aren’t selling anything. It is a contest this is a google phone so they can give away whatever version they want.

    500+Verizon’s tax= 650. How awesome Verizon is ;)

  • Anonymous

Droid-Life I just want you to know once this phone comes out I won’t need to read about anything except software updates… and accessories for the GNex… and maybe some tablets…

    • joejoe509

Lol. I was thinking the same thing… once the Galaxy Nexus is out in the wild, it will be difficult for these Android sites to keep generating this level of views/clicks. The great thing is that the Nexus has allowed a lot of these sites to get their name out there. When people are looking for updates, etc they are likely to come back to their favorite site.

  • Dominick DeVito

Razr what? Rezound what? Bionic what?

Is it a Gillette? Unless you mean the Droid Razr but with your poor spelling might want to clarify that.

          • Anonymous

Nice try, that is the way I spell it idiot. You probably did not graduate from high school and you are correcting spelling life lol. You are a funny dude.

          • Anonymous

I don’t like spelling or grammar correction. People know what you mean otherwise they wouldn’t correct you.

It is Razr though, that’s just how they named it. Same way there’s no Fjord Focus.

          • Anonymous

That’s what I keep telling them lol. They get mad with me and they feel they will get me mad by correcting some commas, and puntuación lol. Did you get the razor?

      • Dominick DeVito

Have fun with your crap ass displays and non removable batteries, old hardware design, an old OS with a slow and buggy Motoburp UI.

        • Anonymous

Crap display lol, that was the funniest comment this week. The display of the razor and the camera and the software are one of the nicest features in the razor :) the nexus is low quality.

          • Dominick DeVito

Okay, now I know you’re delusional. qHD = quarter HD, plus it has a lower resolution.

            Nexus: 1280 x 720 = HD

I’ve seen camera shots from the Razr, I wouldn’t brag about it.

          • Anonymous

I will go check the reviews of the razor :) the razor is close to perfect. You will see when kellex does the review for the king and your plastic nexus lol.

          • Dominick DeVito

okay, time will tell my friend. Have fun always being one step behind.

          • Anonymous

Moto is always step ahead, we all know Samsung is the second option.

          • Dominick DeVito

yeah, Moto is a step ahead – of what? their UI sucks, they’re slow to update phones (not as slow as others), and battery life for all Android phones suck – so they go ahead and be “innovative” with a non-removable battery. Yeah good luck with that.

We’ll see how long it takes for them to take the source code and build their crap ass UI on top of that phone. By then G-Nex owners will have already gotten a few updates by then.

          • Anonymous

But your device will always be a Samsung, which means bad radios, bad speakers, bad quality and call quality. The nexus will have just ics that’s it.

          • Dominick DeVito

My wife own a Droid Charge, I wouldn’t say the build quality is bad – quite the opposite actually. It’s a great phone with an even better display.

            They too suck at software

          • Anonymous

I tried the razor, gs2 and the charge, the razor is the nicer one. I am telling you moto did a masterpiece with the razor.

          • Dominick DeVito

See this is where you Moto trolls keep tripping yourselves up. This isn’t about Moto vs Samsung. Personally, I don’t like Samsung phones either because of their fugly and useless TouchWiz UI and they’re the slowest to update phones.

But a Nexus phone is PURE Android and gets updates FIRST directly from GOOGLE.

          • Anonymous

I can count the people that care about pure google and unlock bootloader. A lot of people love sense, and the new moto user interface. Keep relying on software lol. I care more about the hardware. Good radios, build quality and call quality, which are the most important features about a device.

          • GUEST

            GO FUK YOURSELF LOSER!!!!

          • joejoe509

            If you care about hardware…

the RAZR and Nexus have very similar hardware, but the Nexus comes out ahead in almost every respect. Two examples:

AMOLED qHD vs AMOLED 720p HD
TI OMAP 4430 vs TI OMAP 4460

The ONLY thing the RAZR has going for it is the thin chassis and supposedly premium materials. Otherwise, the RAZR is nothing special.

            GO FUK YOURSELF LOSER!!!!

          • http://twitter.com/Skitz_Marz Alex Gandero

yea, thats exactly why they still went to Samsung for their new nexus

          • Anonymous

The first one was htc and htc is the third choice.

          • http://twitter.com/Skitz_Marz Alex Gandero

ok but that still doesn’t mean anything. The acquired Moto, but still had Samsung do the Nexus.

          • joejoe509

I’m sure the Nexus has been in planning long before the Moto merger was planned. Anyway, Google said they wouldn’t play favorites. That means Moto and HTC didn’t have the right stuff to sway them away from Samsung.

          • GUEST

            GO FUK YOURSELF LOSER!!!!

          • joejoe509

You do that. Every review I’ve read for the RAZR has been a whole lot of… Meh. Great phone, but definitely a step behind the competition.

          • Anonymous

Why because it does not have ics lol. All nexus will have the latest os no matter what. I will get ics as well just so you know.

          • joejoe509

Of course you will get ICS (in Moto’s version anyway) sometime next year. But it’s more than that. The Nexus either beats or ties the RAZR in almost every important spec. Add in the new software and I consider it a winner. That doesn’t make the RAZR bad. On paper, the Nexus has it beat. In the end, it comes down to personal preference. You like the RAZR. Good. I’m glad.

          • Anonymous

Remember that the devices that have omap like the razor, atrix 2 , bionic and droid 3, those are the ones getting ics first. What happens when the razor get ics? I feel it will just make the razor even better. The nexus may be a winner for the geeks, but overall the razor has it beat by one point :)

          • Joejoe509

This doesn’t make much sense and doesn’t respond to my comment very well. Can you rephrase it? Just because the RAZR will someday get ICS doesn’t make the RAZR’s hardware any better. If the Nexus and the RAZR both had ICS, the Nexus still has better hardware.

          • Anonymous

I mean the software will be better with ics. Moto always makes good hardware.

          • Anonymous

So ICS with Blur will be better than Vanilla ICS?

Moto makes good hardware but Samsung and Motorola are both using OMAP processors and the Nexus has a more advanced one.

Want to try to rephrase into a sensible comment one more time?

          • Anonymous

Have you used the new moto ui? You can throw anything and it will still be fast and nice. Remember that moto has the best radio, call quality and nice speakers not just a good processor. How do you know that ics will be nice have you played with it? The lockscreen sucks. The best lock screen htc has it in sense 3.0

You dont have to check them out they all say the same thing: Very wide, battery life is iffy, gets very hot when using it.

          • joejoe509

I don’t understand this whole “wide” thing… aren’t the Rezound and Nexus just as wide?

          • Anonymous

            No.

          • joejoe509

            According to Phonearena.com

            RAZR: 2.71″ or 68.9mm
            Nexus: 2.67″ or 67.94mm
            Rezound: 2.58″ or 65.5mm

The Nexus is only .04″ (.96mm) away from the RAZR. I’m not sure if one mm is really a big difference, but it’s a whole .09″ (2.44mm) wider than the Rezound. It’s closer in width to the RAZR, but yes all three are pretty wide compared to the puny iPhone 4S at 2.31″ (58.6mm) which is a .36″ (6.34mm) difference from the Nexus. But I don’t care. I’m sure we’ll all get used to it. Just sayin…

          • Anonymous

You’re right, there isn’t any huge difference in the width of the phones.  They’re all getting to get more on the wider side. But the zealots will still accuse the Razr of being TOO wide.

          • Anonymous

Moto could of put the hd display in the razor if they wanted to. Moto cares more about battery life. Once second generation lte comes out, then you will see moto packing the best display in their devices and with good battery life.

          • Dominick DeVito

sounds like admission that the display on the Razr indeed sucks. Moto is clueless

          • Anonymous

You may need glasses. You wanted to suck, but moto did a masterpiece with the razor :)

          • Dominick DeVito

I’m not knocking the build quality (minus the screen). Moto knows hardware. Great call quality, great reception.

But they frankly blow at making software.

          • joejoe509

i’m not trying to start things, but you do realize that AMOLED displays use less battery than LCD’s right? AMOLED’s pixels like themself up, and LCD requires a back light that uses more power

          • joejoe509

The RAZR uses AMOLED too. The Rezound uses LCD. He’s saying the RAZR’s smaller screen with much lower resolution is worth the small bump in battery life.

The battery life isn’t even that good on the razr, not to mention the thing heats up and gets extremely hot causing performance issues. But hey if you want something that can cook an egg and be a phone then the razr is perfect for that.

          • Anonymous

          • joejoe509

Sooo… what you’re saying is DON’T buy the RAZR and wait for a better generation? Will do.

          • Anonymous

I am saying that could be a reason why moto did not go with the hd display. The battery life on the nexus will be a disaster.

          • joejoe509

I’m not so sure. Samsung has had a pretty good track record for years now proving that battery life is very important to them. So far the reviews say that the RAZR has mediocre battery life – good not great. Moto has not proven that they can consistently make devices with acceptable battery life. We still don’t know for sure, but just this week there was a Galaxy Nexus post showing the battery life on full brightness. It lasted ten hours. I’d say that’s pretty good.

The screen size is only one aspect of the battery life. Thankfully Moto has included that Smart battery thing that helps the phone maximize battery life even more than a typical task killer. The RAZR’s processor is slightly older and therefore not as efficient. The RAZR’s battery is slightly larger but only by 30mah – not enough to matter. Given Moto’s record for undesirable battery life, I’d say the Nexus has an edge in this dept.

That Rezound however… ouch. HD LCD screen and a small-ish battery. I’d say it’s the Rezound’s biggest weakness judging by the specs alone.

          • Anonymous

Lte is on it’s infancy that is the big problem. Let’s wait for the second generation lte to see how that can improve battery life.

If the camera and software are the nicest features, then I hate to think what your opinion of the rest of the phone is… sheesh. You obviously haven’t read the reviews. The camera and software are nothing special. The Nexus has 3 fewer MP’s and it still has a better, faster camera.

          • Anonymous

Maybe the nexus has a better display and camera, but if on that department the nexus is a 10, the razor is 9.5 out of 10. The best features for me are the radios and call and build quality. Moto did something great with the razor whether you like it or not.

          • joejoe509

True story. The RAZR is amazing. I’m glad you’re getting one. I just personally think the Nexus is better. It’s a great world we live in when we have 3 great choices.

          • Anonymous

That’s true in that case, I hope you enjoy your nexus in two weeks :).

Actually the display is really nice, I love the design and nothing about this phone is slow nor buggy

          • joejoe509

The display is really nice. It’s certainly one of the best screens of the year. You can’t call it a crap display even when compared to Nexus. But it’s not HD and to me that’s a huge disappointment.

For 2011 the razor is the king :)

          • Razor Dethroned 2k12

every king gets dethroned and 2011 is almost over so thats a short reign for the razor. smh

          • Anonymous

Still, the device with the best overall specs is the winner.

          • Dominick DeVito

            great, then G-Nex wins.

          • Anonymous

          • Dominick DeVito

            Okay,

            HD Screen
            Better processor
            NFC

Where exactly is the RAZR better? So it’s thing, great. Can’t remove the battery, have fun in LTE areas. Special noncoating, please. Like that’s necessary. I do like the Kevlar backing, I’ll give them that. But otherwise it’s inferior. In two months we’ll be looking at the Bionic 2*  :-)

          • Anonymous

If you are comparing display, the rezound is hd too smaller display, which it will give the rezound the best display. The razor better build quality, call quality, radios water proof, thinner, display, camera, moto smart, motocast. Do you want more lol?

every OEM has lag. especially when it’s using an operating system that isn’t programmed to be used on dual-core. The difference is that when Google creates an update for an OS, or a whole new OS, it will be designed for the Nexus, so best results will be found on that phone.

$149 more for an extra 16gb of memory?  I doubt that.. $50 maybe

  • Vyse

Considering the contest is open to a ton of countries, I wouldn’t read too much into the pricing. They are definitely giving away the GSM version too, which will probably be cheaper than the LTE one.

    • Nnbadboy

According to Techblog Amazon UK price is £519.99. which is $700 dollars, so I dont see it being cheaper then the LTE version.

      • Evan Knofsky

Phones on Amazon are almost always 100$ more off contract.

  • Turbine Tech

Cannot wait! Day one purchase for me, whether it’s “web only” “week of” I don’t care. It shall be mine…

  • LionStone

No way, no how, is the VZ GN gonna be less than the RAZR or REZound at retail, it’ll be the same or more probably. I’d love to be optimistic but I just can’t see them charging less, not for the VZ one. Soon…very soon…

    • http://twitter.com/binglut9 Brian

I could see it because Google is one company that could ask fora lower price while still making money on ads and etc….just like amazon is doing with the kindle

  • dkbetts

Just for the record.  I am not even trying to be patient for this phone.  I am shamelessly IMPATIENT!  GIVE IT TO ME!

  • Blakjakdavy

Is w/o definitely “web only” and not “week of?”

  • Jer85008

If miracles really do happen, and the retail price is “only” $500, perhaps another miracle and a contract price of $249?

    A few more days/weeks to keep hoping….

  • Anonymous

I have a feeling no matter what the ARV is, the Big Red will still charge $299 for upgrade.

    • http://twitter.com/JFMFT Josh Fowler

I agree with you. I cannot see this phone going below the $299 threshold. At least I’ll get it for $269 (employees get $30 discount on 4G phones). Thunderbolt trade-in is worth $100… so that’s $169. Sigh. Still so expensive.

      • David Hayden

Considering there is a 16GB version and a 32GB version, there should be a Nexus at $250.

        • Anonymous

verizon is rumored to only have 32gb version, 16 is for gsm.

Amazon has been quite generous with their discounts in the past, let us hope they do the same with the Galaxy Nexus

  • http://AndroidTaskForce.com Timmy

    Bet its the HSPA model.

  • http://www.facebook.com/moondrius Nolan Smith

If it is actually only $500 full retail and $300 upgrade I am just going to buy it outright. Might as well save the upgrade for a quadcore device that will come out later.

    • rocketdaddy

      Thinking the same thing here.

    • joejoe509

Hmmmm… Not a bad idea. My bank account might disagree… but that’s a great plan.

Can you imagine someday having the Nexus as your “backup phone” when quad core come out? Jeebus. My mind just exploded.

    • FortitudineVincimus

      decent idea

    • Chris G

Hell.  For only 500 I’ll consider buying the GSM based one as a travel phone for local LTE sims.

    • http://twitter.com/Skitz_Marz Alex Gandero

it is a good idea, but still, quad-core wouldn’t even be able to be fully utilized yet, so it wouldn’t really matter. might even have worse battery life

  • http://Twitter.com/eggoespada Eric Gonzalez

I really hope it is the 21st. My upgrade is the 19th and I hope to get one through Amazon, which they usually have back-orders at the beginning. I don’t want to pay too much through Verizon and don’t want to wait too long.

  • Aran Miller

I read the rules as well, and I noticed this, and if the phone is 299 on contract with verizon, but $500 from Google, it makes me really wonder if I should even bother to get it on contract… what are you thinking?

    • Cam

I like the idea of being off contract; but, really, where am I going to go with a CDMA phone in the US?

      • http://Twitter.com/eggoespada Eric Gonzalez

Its really just for people who can’t upgrade or just don’t want to waste one.

  • Anonymous

    I would take $500 over $650

    • Anonymous

      o rly?

  • tndroid

its only valued at 500 to avoid tax liability

    • Anonymous

Then why with other contests not do the same?

    • Anonymous

      Not quite how taxes work.

  • Anonymous

I wouldn’t get hopes up for $500 off contract, contest rules are always a bit weird.  I’m surprised it’s not higher, but depending on what companies run the contest (it’s not samsung/google/verizon) it’s always a separate company that handles the contests, I imagine we’ll still see the $649 off contract price.

  • Anonymous

  • http://twitter.com/dtriscari19 David Triscari

500 for the GSM, maybe. Also could be the contest is simply to put pressure on Big Red

I bought an Iphone 4s for $850. It may be exactly like every other Iphone since 2005 but at least it has a shiny apple on the back that I can stare at for hours. And this time the phone can talk to me when I’m sitting in my room on those lonely nights.

          • Joshua Dudash

Too bad even many Android users think that way too.

          • Bob Martin

yes but every android user has more to back it up. Iphones may look good to an ISheep but the phone is so locked down that it makes the phone almost unusable to a person that knows how to operate a smartphone. But with android some of the phones may look good but once you turn it on the phone software also looks good since you can customize it to the way you want.

      • Mike

199 + the usual for me. Otherwise, I’ll wait till it drops to that. At least the bugs will be fixed since even the Nexus will have those at launch.

      • http://twitter.com/eatfat_getfit Eat Fat, Get Fit.

considering i’ve sold my past two used droids for $300, i think many would disagree.

        • Anonymous

Same here. I keep my phones in perfect condition and sell them when I upgrade (usually once a year unless I can get early upgrades). I got $360 when I sold my Droid 3. My Bionic’s going up for sale as soon as I have my Galaxy Nexus in hand.

          • http://twitter.com/eatfat_getfit Eat Fat, Get Fit.

nice.  i had the bionic for a few days but decided to save my upgrade.

i’ve actually suspended my cell service since then….been a glorious experience.

      • Anonymous

Well lucky for you the galaxy nexus does far more than just make calls. If you just want a phone, buy something cheap , 500$ for the absolute top of the line phone on the market is very reasonable.

        • http://twitter.com/eatfat_getfit Eat Fat, Get Fit.

yeah, but it’ll probably be $200 or $300 if you have an upgrade.

      • Luis

I agree. The natural evolution of phones shouldn’t make them more expensive. That’s pretty much going backwards compared to other technology that get cheaper or stay the same price.

        • Paul

Ya and how often you use something is not directly related to how much it’s worth.

          • Anonymous

What is up with this top group? If the phone were $500 off contract (which I don’t think it will) it would have been the cheapest phone we’ve had in a while. Some of the new phones are over $600. I know $299 contract price is not cheap but its not bad either. A half a days pay isn’t that bad.

If you want it for less just wait a couple months and they will almost be giving them away.

I paid $600 for a laptop and it stopped working in a year.

          • Matt2783

You do realize most people don’t make over $600 a day right? Someone who makes that is making ~$150,000. The average income is ~$45,000.

          • http://twitter.com/eatfat_getfit Eat Fat, Get Fit.

maybe they should read the millionaire fastlane.

          • Les

I think his whole comment was just a way to show off. Though I doubt he makes over $150k a year.

          • Anonymous

Seriously?  While I’m not trying to show off, I would think that there are many here who make that or more. Sadly that is not much any more…

          • Anonymous

So in one post, “half a days’ pay isn’t that bad” and then later 150k per year “isn’t that much.”

Ok dude. I’m going to be civil as I say this. You are not middle class. I know you think you are, but you’re not. The money “problems” you have are nothing compared to what those in the 45k and under range are experiencing. I get that what you have doesn’t go as far as you think it should, but I’m getting really sick of the 100k plus crowd whining about their income not living up to expectations. Try making just over 20k a year for several years and then come talk to me about how tough it is.

          • JusChilln

He said less than half a days pay and I’m sure this math won’t make you feel any better:

            $600 x 2 = $1200 = One days pay
            $1200 x 5 days = $6,000 = One weeks pay
            $6,000 x 52 weeks = $312,000 = One years pay

Who knows if that’s gross or net. Either way it’s way more than what the majority makes.

          • http://www.facebook.com/holysnikey Luke Bailey

If you have such money problems then you probably shouldn’t be buying a top of the line flagship smartphone on the most expensive carrier, on a contract. 500 off contract is extremely cheap for a phone that is going to be the best phone out when its released. A 4G phone is as useful as a $500 laptop or netbook would be if you ask me. Once again if you have such money problems that you have to complain online to everyone don’t buy the top of the line smartphone on an expensive contract.

          • Ry D

He’s talking shit for sure. Just the fact he would put that in his comment makes him a douchebag, whether it’s true or not.

          • http://twitter.com/eatfat_getfit Eat Fat, Get Fit.

$20k a year is basically 60 hours per week at minimum wage.

So, even if you’re working a full time job at wal-mart AND a part time job at a tanning salon, you still have plenty of time left in the week to:

            -educated yourself
            -work on your own business
            -etc etc.

my grandparents came here with NOTHING and worked.  they improved themselves and did a little bit better for my parents.  my parents repeated the process.  and, i plan on doing the same.

seriously…what has changed?  go read millionaire fastlane or do something to CHANGE YOUR LIFE instead of begging for all of this change that merely addresses symptoms and doesn’t address the problem.

we need to address this “give me because i deserve it attitude” and change it to the “i deserve it because i WORKED for it”

            right…

did you factor in the rising costs of health care, putting one’s kids through school, rising property taxes, inflation, time to sleep so one can be at their best at their job.

honestly, i started my own business recently.  it cost me $0.  i self educated myself on it and did it in my spare time.  the money that i made from it, i reinvested in the business to make it better.  it’s 2:30 AM right now and i’m taking a break from working on it.  i really don’t care if i get 4 hours of sleep tonight until this thing takes off.  right now i’m making enough to cover my rent/food/expenses/etc… however, if i need to work at costco, or as a waiter, or a busboy until this (or another venture) takes off…so be it.

i’d rather you find me delusional and weird.  that’s fine…it means i’m doing something right.

if you’re unhappy with your life/income, i highly suggest reading the millionaire fastlane or getting t.harv eker’s works… both legit.  otherwise, i’ll stick to my warped version.

since when is $150,000 a year “showing off?”

            $150,000 a month…maybe.

          • Earleepa

Less than half a days pay for you maybe but some of us have to work for a living. That’s all I make in a week.

          • Anonymous

I understand but all these others are complaining about 500 when it would be the cheapest phone out at full retail. Of course that is not going to be the price anyway.

How much is a Razr at full retail?  How much is a Rezound at full retail? I paid over $600 full retail for my Thunderbolt.  My point was that compared to that $500 would be a bargain.

          • JKing53

It seems they’re (including me) saying all these new phones are overpriced. Not just the Nexus.

          • Anonymous

            thunderbolt was $569

          • http://twitter.com/Skitz_Marz Alex Gandero

that 32GB card is expensive. Nexus has no card, and no slot

          • Anonymous

32 gb card isn’t that expensive. you can get them online cheap.

          • Anonymous

After they lowered the original price.  Go back and check.

          • Anonymous

I know they lowered it from $589 because I bought it and then a week later they lowered the price.

          • Anonymous

Go back and do a search for the (1st) original full retail for the Thunderbolt.  Within 2 weeks the 1st reduction in price was $50.

          • Anonymous

I know what it cost I ordered it on day one. Price wasn’t lowered by 50 it was 30

          • Anonymous

I have receipts, how about a friendly little wager?  We are going back and forth of a silly thing…

What would you like to bet?

          • Anonymous

I honestly don’t care. I have receipts and know how much I paid as soon as it was available. If you paid more well that sucks for you then lol.

          • Anonymous

Ok then, I am sure I paid the same as you… lol, but I guess this is where this little discussion ends since you don’t want to wager. Not sure why if you were so sure with your receipts.

          • Anonymous

I forgot this is coming from Mr. Moneybags. I know what it cost full price on day one. You can argue all you want it did not come down $50.

          • Gdgts

Get off your high horse. The vast majority of Android users make significantly less than that (made up internet statistic).

          • Anonymous

Ok… whatever… It doesn’t matter what people make. If a phone is too expensive for what your needs are then don’t buy it. And all phones come down in price over time.

The whole top part of this thread was made up of people saying that 500 was too expensive at full retail while if that were the true price it would be actually cheaper than most.

If you don’t want the phone, don’t buy it. If it’s too much, buy something else.  But keep in mind it will not be any of the current phones that are out unless outdated.

          • Jojo

Congratulations on working hard and making a good amount of money but don’t assume everyone is in the same situation as you. All the phones coming out are getting too expensive for what they are.

          • Anonymous

Yes they are expensive. But sadly my recent phones have held up better than my 600 laptop that stopped working one day for no reason… just died.  Cheaper to buy a new laptop then fix it.

          • Anonymous

Then buy a better laptop if yours all the sudden die. Probably have an hp thats why, they suck and don’t last.

          • Anonymous

HA… HP it was. I will never buy another HP laptop again.

          • Anonymous

Ha I figured. Idk why but hp just don’t last and are plagued with tons of problems.

          • http://twitter.com/eatfat_getfit Eat Fat, Get Fit.

yeah, my brother bought one of those and the screen just freaked out on him.

then he sent it back… they worsened it and refused to fix it claiming customer damage.

            sweet.

          • http://twitter.com/eatfat_getfit Eat Fat, Get Fit.

            insurance?  warranty?

and if you can’t afford either… CHEAPER laptop and then insurance/warranty?

this stuff is not that difficult.

          • Anonymous

I understand that, laptops these days are disposable items cause they are junk and you have to expect it.  I won’t buy insurance on a laptop cause I would just buy another.  My point was (that you by no surprise missed) these phones hold up better in the long run than disposable laptop computers.

          • http://twitter.com/eatfat_getfit Eat Fat, Get Fit.

honestly, i suspended my phone.  i don’t have one anymore.  i rely on my laptop.

i find it takes away from my productivity instead of enhancing it.

i may get a mi-fi though or an aircard.

          • Anonymous

If they are too expensive then don’t buy it or wait a few weeks it is android the price always drops a lot within a few weeks.

          • http://twitter.com/eatfat_getfit Eat Fat, Get Fit.

            my god.  wah!  it’s $300.

your monthly price is $100/month.  why aren’t people talking about the $1200+ you’re shelling out to verizon per year for a phone.  if $300 is that big of a deal for you, perhaps you should have a basic phone and get your priorities in order.

and, i practice what i preach.  i recently started a business.  i had a droid bionic (and was always an early adopter…seriously, i’ve probably had about 8-12 new phones over the past few years all purchased on launch day)…anyway, i returned it and am relying on google voice (free calls/texts) until i feel my income is adequate to support having a phone again.

i have no sympathy for the 99 percent or this occupy movement.  go make your own change in your life.

(however, at the same time… i’d be more than happy to help you with your health…and can probably SAVE you money on food…before you say i’m some uncaring d-bag)

        • Anonymous

actually a few years ago 3g phones were more than this on contract. If you don’t think so look it up and kellex knows this was the case too.

        • Anonymous

Computers are cheaper because the technology found cheaper ways to make more power. Computers have massive amounts of space to work with (compared to cell phones) and they practically have no power requirements, until they started making laptops. But even today laptops last about as long as a 4G device with only one radio (wifi) working. With cell phones you have to make more power in a smaller device that last longer at a reasonable cost. There WILL be compromises. Currently the market dictates that prices will be compromised because people will pay for it.

I think you are comparing large time frames to a very small time frame. With computers this maturity of the technology took about 30 years. With cell phones you are looking at basically a 4 year time frame of adoption with only about 2 years of revolutionary advancement. Companies have just really started pouring massive amount of dollars into actual mobile base chips (comparative to the amount of time the technology has “household”). That’s why I think the Nexus, Razr, and Rezound are really the first “mature” phones released since the OG Droid, Incredible, Nexus S. Companies are finally blurring the lines between a smart phone (not smartphone) and a computer. Companies were trying to make small computers into a phone and now they are actually making smarter phones with the form factor we want and the features (LTE) that we want/need.

If you really look at it cell phones are cheaper than they used to be and you get a lot more. The price of the Motorola DynaTAC 8000X was $3995 in 1983 would cost you $8650 todayThe Price of a Motorola Razr was $600 in 2004 and would cost $690 today. Also, cell companies only gave $100 discount in those days. I repeat, cell companies only gave $100 discount in those days. Getting a Motorola Razr at $500 was the deal pricing! When you can have a phone off contract that is cheaper than what the original Razr cost and is better than the best selling computers in 2004 ( 3.0 GHz single core with 512 Mb of RAM) in the palm of your hand, I find it really hard to complain.

      • Langely

How can European carriers offer their top end phones for free on contract and tethering isn’t an extra charge either?

        • Josh

If I’m paying $250+ for a phone, there should be more effort into making it smaller.

Having a big screen is nice but why are the bezels getting bigger too? I’d rather go for a smaller screen if that’s the case. Please be more efficient in designing these phones.

          • RoidDroid

Yes, I would also like to see less bezel. Thin is nice but not without sacrificing the other dimensions.

    • Anonymous

Except it’s not “just a phone” anymore.  It’s the device we use more than any other device in today’s world.

      • Bob Martin

I agree. Now its a phone, mini computer, ebook reader, news reader, mp3 player, camera, and much more. If you buy all those devices seperately it would be at least $3000

      • http://twitter.com/eatfat_getfit Eat Fat, Get Fit.

eh, it’s not really as necessary as you think it is.

        • Anonymous

          Who said it is necessary?

          • http://twitter.com/eatfat_getfit Eat Fat, Get Fit.

“It’s the device we use more than any other device in today’s world.” -Liderc
that sounds pretty “necessary” to me, primo.

    • JMac726

What other device do you use as often as your phone?

    • Jdduncan11

So you would pay $299.99 for a Razr, Rezound, iPhone 4s (32GB), but wouldn’t for the Nexus??

Stop the madness! You know you would.

      • Rogers

I’m pretty sure he meant he wouldn’t pay that much for any of them. I’d pay $250 max for the Nexus. Even less for the others. You’d have to pay me to use the iPhone.

      • Donuts

I’d pay $299 for a phone that’s the same size as the SGS1 with current specs (4″ screen and not much bezel). The Nexus is taller than other 4.3″ phones despite the screen being the same width but longer to make up for not having buttons. The Razr may be thin but its longer and wider than existing 4.3″ phones. The Rezound is thick and I think taller than the Thunderbolt.

Not only are screens getting bigger, the bezels are too. There isn’t exactly a whole lot of design going on. Just companies cramming in hardware.

As someone who has to deal with contest legal frequently, the approximate retail value (ARV) can be off by quite a bit.

    • http://www.droid-life.com Kellex B

Can you give us an idea of how often you see it match and how often it doesn’t?  The previous DROID contest all seem to match up perfectly.  This however, seems waaaaay too good to be true.

      • http://twitter.com/Thracks Robert Hallock

We can often write an ARV that’s just “in the ballpark,” because we don’t always know what the MSRP will actually be when we work with our legal team to finalize the terms of a contest. As an example, the last ARV I wrote had an estimated MSRP of $350, but the real number was closer to $500.

        • Eh

I assume Google would know more about the price of their own phone.

          • http://www.droid-life.com Kellex B

An outside company is likely handling the contest logistics though. With the Razr contest that we just ran, it was set up that way.

          • Anonymous

I went back and looked at the Nexus S contest rules, and the ARV was $500 as well. I doubt it will be off-contract at $500 :(  http://www.google.com/nexus/challenge2/rules.html

          • Billyrouth2000

            Nope, Verizon sets the price.

          • http://twitter.com/Thracks Robert Hallock

One would assume I know the price of my own products. ;) The reality is that the MSRP is often not finalized until the few days before launch, and any difference between what is charged to the vendors (in this case, Verizon) and the actual MSRP is refunded to the buyer.

          • Eh

Thanks for clearing it up (and making me sad).

        • http://www.droid-life.com Kellex B

          K good to know. :)

        • Anonymous

this is a google phone, and a google contest, pretty sure they know what the price will be. Just saying

          • Evan Knofsky

Verizon sets the price for the phone, if you are buying the Verizon version.
