Wondering Which Samsung Devices Will Get The Bump To Ice Cream Sandwich? Here’s The List

by: | posted 10.28.11 | News

When a new Android OS is coming out, the question on everyone’s mind is always, “Will it come to my device?” Samsung owners can now know the fate of their devices with the newest report coming from Samsung Italy. The Korean based manufacturer looks to only update a few existing handsets.

We have the Galaxy SII which has become Samsung’s flagship handset. We know it sports more than enough power to run Ice Cream Sandwich with ease and definitely deserves to receive the update. Samsung’s entire lineup of next generation tablets will also receive the update which makes sense to us, and don’t be surprised if you see ICS running on these tablets before any others.

  • Galaxy SII
  • Galaxy Note
  • Galaxy Tab 10.1
  • Galaxy Tab 8.9
  • Galaxy Tab 7.7
  • Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus

It’s clear that Samsung has realized the formula for creating a popular Android device. Powerful hardware, newest and most impressive operating system, and a delightful spot on Google’s good side with the Galaxy Nexus. We’re a little interested on the fate of the DROID Charge – curiously we don’t see it on the list.

HTC Rezound Goes Back to the FCC, This Time With a Wireless Charging Back

by: | posted 10.28.11 | News

The HTC Rezound (formerly the Vigor) made its way through the FCC back in September, so when it stopped by again today, we couldn’t help but wonder why. According to the “Change Letter” that was submitted, it needed another look as HTC has added a wireless charging back cover to it.

We will have to assume that this just means they will sell a wireless charging back separately (as has been done in the past), but would be nice if these phone manufacturers would start building this technology in from the start. Of course, that would limit their potential to make money off of accessories, so I doubt we will see that move coming any time soon.

This phone should be announced next Thursday with a potential launch coming the follow week on November 10.

Has wireless charging become a part of your life? Not something you are interested in at all?

Potential Permanent Root Method Released for Motorola Devices: Bionic, DROID3, and DROIDX2 Included

by: | posted 10.28.11 | News, Root

A potential permanent root solution has popped up for Motorola devices (including the Bionic, DROID3, and DROIDX2)  that you should be able to complete in about 5 minutes time. You have to be rooted already (instructions), but from there you just need to edit some lines in your “mount_ext3.sh” file using Root Explorer. Now, there is a chance that Moto could (will likely) patch this up in a new update, but you might as well attempt it anyway if you love having root access.

New Google TV Software Finally Introduced, Available Starting “Early Next Week”

by: | posted 10.28.11 | News

The Google TV update to “Honeycomb” or whatever we are calling it these days is finally ready! Through this new 2.0-ish approach to GTV, the team focused on 4 key areas:  keeping it simple, making it easy to find something to watch, making YouTube better, and most importantly, bringing apps to your TV. This is really the update that all GTV owners have been impatiently waiting for since day 1. A market with actual apps?  Mmmm, yes please. No mention of deals formed with the big networks for website viewing of content, but they are adding support to HBO GO which is a huge +1.

The software will begin rolling out to Sony boxes early next week (maybe Sunday?) with Logitech devices seeing it soon after.

Three videos that walk you through the all new Google TV can be found below.

LG Revolution Gingerbread Update Actually is Ready to Go, Here is the Change Log

by: | posted 10.28.11 | News

The LG forum let it slip last night that the Gingerbread (Android 2.3) update for the Revolution could start today. Without a change log though, we were a little hesitant to jump on board with that. Well, good news this morning, as the list of changes has been uploaded and published by Verizon. It’s 87.8MB in size and should be on everyone’s phones by 11/2.

Be sure to let us know if you receive it! And I guess that leaves the Charge on Froyo? You go Samsung!

LG Revolution to See Gingerbread Update Tomorrow, October 28?

by: | posted 10.27.11 | News

According to LG’s official support forum, the Revolution should see an update to Gingerbread starting tomorrow (October 28). We scoured Verizon’s website and could not find any evidence of this actually happening, so we will just have to see what happens in the morning.

by: | posted 10.27.11 | Contests

With the release of SHADOWGUN to Tegra devices yesterday, NVIDIA asked if we would be interested in giving away a tablet and some other prizes to one of our fantastic readers as a way to celebrate. Like we would turn that down, right? So upon agreeing, they shipped us over a Sony Tablet S (powered by Tegra), a Jawbone JAMBOX speaker, and a $25 gift card. The prize packages is valued at over $700 and is one of the more impressive you’ll find anywhere.
