Verizon’s Samsung Galaxy Nexus Press Shot Discovered

by: | posted 10.30.11 | News

So it looks almost identical to the high gloss press images we saw when the Galaxy Nexus was announced at the Samsung/Google event, but when one of our readers pointed out that it was labeled “Verizon_SCH-i515″, we just had to share. As you can see, no Verizon logo anywhere near the front of this bad boy. And if the images we have seen of the back side of this device hold up, it won’t say anything but “Google” and “4G LTE” on the back either. Not surprising though – the Nexus S and Nexus One lacked all carrier branding as well. Such a pretty device, isn’t it?

This Week In The Life Of DROID: 10/28/2011

We are having plenty of fun giving back to our readers this week and two Logitech Revues are still up for grabs. Make sure to enter. On a different note, we are getting closer to November, which means a better idea of when Verizon customers can get the Galaxy Nexus in their hands. Oh please, let it be soon.

Halloween is just around the corner. Got any special plans?

The Tato Series: An Interview With Liquidzgrl – One of the Few Female Android Developers

by: | posted 10.28.11 | News

I was fortunate enough to snag some time with an upcoming developer who’s work can be found for many HTC Thunderbolt devices if they search hard enough through the forums. The neat thing about this developer is that they are an incredible multi-tasker just like the platform they work on. A mother, full-time worker, and part-time Android developer. Impressive. Her name is Misty and she goes by Liquidzgrl on the web, and she creates ROMs and themes for the Thunderbolt.

Down below you can read my conversation with her on starting to develop, being a mom and still having time for a hobby, and possibly being the only underground Android developer who just so happens to be a girl.

Rebuttal: Maybe Android Manufacturers Don’t Need to Slow Down [Opinion]

by: | posted 10.28.11 | News, Opinion

After yesterday’s piece by Ron on the idea that Android manufacturers need to slow down, we had another reader step up and put together a well-thought-out rebuttal. As a site that prides itself on having the greatest group of Android enthusiasts in the world, this is the type of stuff that solidifies that claim. Who else sees discussions turn into featured posts by readers? Let’s take a look at what Skipper K. has to say.

Is Android coming at us too fast and too hard? Are we really better off with fewer handsets?

It’s been argued that Android manufacturers need to slow it way down. We’re inundated with new devices; it seems like every week there’s a shiny, brand-spankin-new model with iterative, minuscule feature updates. Even within the same make and model lineup one can get lost or left behind seemingly in an instant. Just look at your and my favourite device of all time: the OG Droid (don’t argue; it’s your favourite).

Ah, the OG. It’s been called the Droid, Droid 1, OG Droid, Sean Connery Droid, and Battlestar Galactica (OK, maybe I’m the only one who’s called it that). A ground breaking device in it’s day, it began to feel a little dated when the Droid X was released a scant 9 months later. And then the Droid 2 a month after that…and the Droid Pro the same month. Then the Droid 3, X2, Bionic, and now the RAZR. What’s next, the Droid X3.5 Halloween followed by the Droid X3.6 Thanksgiving Slide?

Accessory Review: Philips Fidelio AS351 Speaker Dock For Android Devices

by: | posted 10.28.11 | Accessories, News, Reviews

We were very happy to receive one of Philips’ anticipated docking stations for Android in the mail a little while ago and knew that lots of people have been looking for something just like this. Finally, a docking station for our Android devices that has good quality speakers that can rock the house and charge our devices at the same time. A simple device that turned a bit complicated due to software constraints and silly ‘non-existent’ requirements. Let me try to explain.
