Liberty ROM Released for Both DROID3 and Bionic

The wait is over. Kejar and JRummy have finally released Liberty ROM to the public for both the DROID3 and DROID Bionic. As is customary with their ROMs, you get a mostly Blur-free UI, “from source” built apps, snazzy yellow and black theme (@davekover), and a whole bunch of customizable settings to really make this your own. Their work has always been some of our favorite here at DL and wanted to share with those of you who may not be familiar yet.

Looks great. This may be off topic, but if someone has a quick reply i’d be grateful, as I haven’t moved on to flashing custom ROMs because of this holdup. I know you can’t use Hashcode’s Safestrap and Koush’s Bootstrap for the D3 together, but is there a way to switch between them? I noticed some ROMs require one or the other installed.

The exhibit is  called "Picasso to Koons: Artist as
    Jeweler." You probably will
    recognize the names of
    barbour
    jacket
many of the more than one hundred artists  represented at the barbour
    jackets
    show. Names like
    Georges Braque, Max Ernst,  Alexander
Calder and Salvador Dali, Robert Rauschenberg and Louise Nevelson and barbour
    uk.

One hundred thirty of the rings, necklaces,
    barbour
    ladies
    and
brooches are from the collection of art expert Diane Venet. She helped
    to set  up the exhibit.

      Ms. Venet
met French sculptor Bernar Venet about twenty-six years ago. A short
time  later, he gave her a piece of quilted
    jackets
    silver
designed as a ring. The ring celebrated the fact that they would soon be  married. Ms. Venet said it was the first
    piece of barbour
    quilted jackets
    an
artist’s jewelry she had ever had.

      As time
passed, Bernar Venet exchanged pieces with mens barbour
    jacket
    artist friends
    who sometimes created jewelry.  Ms.
Venet’s personal collection grew and grew, and she decided to exhibit it  with works of barbour
    mens
    the other artists.

      Holly
Hotchner is the director of the Museum   of Arts and Design. She  says the ladies barbour
    jackets
    museum
considers jewelry as one of the most important forms of art today. She
notes  that a piece of jewelry
    kid’s barbour
    jacket
is not  just a small version of a sculpture.

Just wanted to let everyone know that Liberty 3 for DX is also out there, they are on RC 1.2, but the official version should be coming soon. Been running it for a few days now, love it, just like all the Liberty ROMs.

    • 11knives

thanks for the DX info. I was on Liberty for a while, but the full on customization of MIUI blows me away. Maybe I’ll give Liberty another try soon.

Sort of new to this, but does rooting unlock the phone for different carriers as well?

    • Anonymous

No, that’s a hardware limitation because the radio only supports certain frequencies (plus heavy software lock on global phones).

      • http://twitter.com/McLarenX989 Kevin Noel

Hmmm so all the sites advertising they can unlock the phone if you provide the IMEI are fake?

        • Anonymous

Pretty much.  You can request to unlock global capable phones on Verizon but they still will not work on other carriers in the US, only outside the country.

    • Anonymous

No, that’s a hardware limitation because the radio only supports certain frequencies (plus heavy software lock on global phones).

    • Prttyboiii007

No. Just opens your phone up to custom things like: free wifi hotspot, custom ROM’s, overclocking, etc.

I had this ROM for forever on my D2, if I did not love CM7 this would be my ROM of choice. Out of curiosity what have the new version brought since the gingerbread version?
I see they added the togglebar in the status bar I like that.

Why does Liberty get so much attention…. when there are many others out there that are just as good?

  • Pennywise

    Hell and yes!!

Sweet job devs! We as android fans are lucky to have guys like Kejar and JRummy working hard on improving our phones.

I want to see an ICS ROM! I kinda like the new blur..still using my .959 version on my D3, dont care for the update unless its ICS! If it ca be on Nexus S before it is even officially finally released….then it ca be on this with some modification!!!!!

    • Kixofmyg0t

After seeing the ICS port running on a Nexus S I can safely say I’m happy with GB for now. I will cut it some slack for being a rough SDK port though. Their really isn’t anything that makes me want to go through the hassle of flashing it. The only thing I really want is the new Gmail.apk. It’s prettier than the “old” one.

      • Anonymous

Agreed, I’m not that impressed with various changes in ICS; some are certainly nice, others not so much.  I’d almost rather prefer my Bionic’s modified Gingerbread.

    • Anonymous

you should get the update, lots of improvements, including battery..rebloat deroot update done

      • Anonymous

You don’t have to de-root, just apply P3’s forever root before updating.

  • Anonymous

Liberty Bionic is butter smooth. Try it before you say you don’t like it. Thanks Jrummy and Kejar!

  • Bionic

Ive yet to see a ROM that is more me-friendly than simple root and freeze of bloat and then using Go Launcher.  Im just not aware of any features that ROMs have over GO Launcher for me specifically.

    • Anonymous

GoLauncher is slow on my Bionic for some reason, doesn’t seem optimized at all.  Both the stock blur launcher and LauncherPro are so much faster.

      • Bionic

Wow really? Go launcher is really fast on my Bionic. No lag. Very little redraw.

        • Anonymous

It’s because I have high quality drawing enabled under advanced, if I disable that than it’s fast but with it disabled there is noticeable color banding on certain widgets and backgrounds, none of the other launchers have that issue.

          • Bionic

someone told me that Launcher pro has been abandoned.

          • Anonymous

So what if it has? Still works better than any other launcher I’ve used.

  • Anonymous

The latest Liberty runs like a dream on the DroidX.  While unrelated to this specific post, I figured I’d throw out my commendation for JRummy (et al.).

  • http://twitter.com/dcdevito Dominick C DeVito

Glad to see the D3 and Bionic dev supported.

    • Keithsmnr

      U glad bro?

  • Anonymous

These ROMs are nice but I have found myself liking a lot of the functions that
come with Blur. The context menus from from the App Drawer. The extended
recent apps menu, the categories from the appdrawer. Not to mention this ROM
for the Bionic is made for the old firmware when the update for Bionic is less than a
month away. .893 cured all my connectivity woes.

    • Kixofmyg0t

Yeah I agree, I prefer the new Blur to ROM’s. Especially since 893.

    • Ranlil

I’m liking the .893 as well.  Quick camera shutter, battery lasts twice as long, and quicker blur.  Being rooted, most of the bloat gone.  I’m pretty happy with my Bionic until ICS comes around.

      • Kixofmyg0t

+1 for 893 battery life. My battery life doubled once I got it. That plus P3’s Forever Root(which was easy as pie with Root Explorer)=Win.

The 893 update is just a new Kernel and Camera apk but it really fixed what little flaws the Bionic had.

        • Ranlil

I used the OneTouch Root and Root Explorer

          • Kixofmyg0t

I rooted 886 with Pete’s One Click tools, then forever rooted using Root Explorer. I was all sorts of happy after updating to OTA 893 and after reboot to still having root.

          • Anonymous

OK, I would like to say that I really keep up with DL, but this is the 1st I’m hearing about this update.  Does anyone have a good link with instructions on how to do this since I’m rooted/stock?

          • Anonymous

Get to complete stock unrooted (you will have the option to root after it is back to stock via Pete’s Root Tools: http://droidmodderx.com/bionic/too-easy-unbrick-bionic-with-oneclick-fastboot-restore/
Apply “Forever Root” patch (simple Root Explorer Mod): http://droidmodderx.com/bionic/maintain-root-through-any-update-bionic-with-forever-root/
            Flash update:http://droidmodderx.com/bionic/leak-ota-update-5-5-893-better-battery-bettery-connection/
Done: If you did it right you should keep root and be fine. If you lose root you can use the one click fastboot restore in the first link to go back to stock and try again; but it should work just fine.

        • Anonymous

Much better battery life eh?  I’ll wait for the official update but that’s very encouraging, probably directly related to the radio fix they implemented.

    • Jrummy16

Inside the Rom there is a feature called liberty customizer where you can add back blur or choose what apps are aosp and what apps are blur.

Thanks for the write up droid-life :)

      • Anonymous

If i can add back the functionality of the app drawer AND the recent apps list then the only thing stopping me is that I am on .893. So until it becomes official and gets supported or another version is i can’t justify the look of a ROM over my connectivity issues with 889. I have used the last three test builds and the build prior to this one and it was super smooth though.

    • Ian Wilson

Wow I’m out of the loop… I’m not rooted, is there a way for me to get this 893 you speak of?

      • Anonymous

If you have twitter you can contact me there @pcriz . I can point you where i went.

    • Anonymous

Nice thing I’m finding with Liberty is that you can opt to use almost all of the Blur features if you prefer, including the launcher/app drawer!

  • Hu A

I was able to install this with rom manager :D

  • Mctypething

    u black bro?

    • Anonymous

      u curious bro?

  • Benjamin Landwehr

Yay!  I can use this till I sell my Droid 3 for the G Nex.  So like 5days.

    • jbonics

I would hate to be the guy that gets duped on that one

      • Anonymous

Oh how I wish there were a rolleyes emoticon.

      • Benjamin Landwehr

Lmao, not a bad phone. I just wanted the G Nex and 4g when it gets here on the 17th.  And, they’re selling great on eBay and mines in prestine condition plus the free 16gig sdcard and nice case.  So might as well try my luck out.

It is based on Moto’s builds, so no, it is not an AOSP ROM.

Woah. Something weird going on with the comments…

It took me a sec but I think I know what this article’s comment’s section needs to get us all back on track:

Looks like the only thing left of the yellow and black theme is the wallpaper…

  • Unexpected62

Haven’t been in the ROM-ing game since my D1….. so is Liberty an AOSP Rom… or not? I am curious because the article says “mostly blur free”.

Just wondering why I would run this over Cyanogen, for example. I will definitely try it tonight.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Thomas-L-Wolfe/100000451164661 Thomas L. Wolfe

You have to keep the blur dialer and contacts.  So that is why.

  • Anonymous

I was feeling ripped off when they weren’t updating Liberty GB (I bought the liberty ROM Toolbox and they stopped the ROM nightlies) but it’s good to see Liberty 3 popping up on the ROM manager. :)

    • Anonymous

It is based on Moto’s builds, so no, it is not an AOSP ROM.
