Mega-Gallery: Ice Cream Sandwich Walk-through from Nexus S Port

One of the first fully working Ice Cream Sandwich ports has been produced and made public to anyone with a Nexus S. Kellex and I just spent the last hour drooling, ooohing and awing over this thing on our very own devices – it’s super impressive. It’s not the Android 4.0 that you saw at the Hong Kong event and is instead the version we saw a few weeks prior running on none other than a Nexus S. It works, has almost all of the goodies you have been teased with, and will likely make the Nexus S our weekly driver for the next week or so until the Galaxy Nexus is released.

So what we have for you below then, is a massive gallery of how almost all of the new features in ICS will look. You will see the new launcher, widgets, Gmail, camera app, dialer, People app, gallery, keyboard, browser, swiping notifications, Google Talk account switching, etc. If you need a rehashing of all things Android 4.0, we hope this helps.

Launcher and App Drawer

Google Talk

Dialer and People App

Movie Studio

Google Music

Keyboard and Search

Random:  Widget Grid, Notification Bar and Widget Resizing

If you own a Nexus S and feel like jumping on this, you can find all of the info at this XDA thread.

What happens when you spam-click the Android version?

  • You should leak that youtube app…..im a partner….would enjoy having it on my D3 to get extra features….:)

  • Jake

On my DX I long-press the search button to launch the Google voice search app from anywhere. It’s very convenient and I use it every day for all sorts of things (texting, movies, weather, searches, etc.). With no hard button on the Galaxy Nexus and no search button in the soft keys, will I have to always navigate to that app either through the app drawer or a desktop shortcut?

    • You can set your time/weather widget to launch Google voice, you can pick either hour or the minuts and you’re good to go.

So when the Bionic gets ICS the camera will have a focus option?

  • Telzrob

Does Gmail finally support Pinch to Zoom or any kind of HTML mail zooming at all?

  • can you put widgets on the lockscreen?

  • AroundTheFur

    Deftones +1

  • Justintwr

What does the email client look like for ActiveSync/Exchange accounts? Have you tried the Cisco VPN API from the post yesterday? Does the keyboard response feel any different?

  • TrappN

Does ICS add zero shutter lag, or is that phone specific?

    • Anonymous

My guess is it will be phone specific as it probably needs a certain camera module installed in the phone to fully take advantage of any benefits the software might add.

    • Anonymous

Phone specific I am guessing it is not working on Nexus S

  • Trusttheman85

The new tron design is awsome… definately an “ahead of the curve” design choice that works very well for android. i think they hit there designing stride. lets b honest, the dial pad looks awsome, and im sure the buttons glow blue when u touch them. its little florishes thats gonna start giving alot more i*hone users “android-envy”

  • Trusttheman85

    built in equalizer = BOSS

  • Paul

Green highlights still seem out of place in all the blue.

While everything in there was awesome, I must now go and listen to the Around The Fur album right now and throw in a little Adrenaline. Good music taste man!

  • Anonymous

does the new youtube app let view and watch your “watch later” playlist? also can you post a pic of the new lockscreen while music is playing?

  • Anonymous

Damn GMail app STILL doesn’t have a Select All button….arrgh.
Google Voice also needs a major overhaul, that UI is fugly.

  • Anonymous

Wooh look, the notfication bar pulls down!!!

  • Rayyan Fairaq

I’d like to see you clicking on a contact’s image in the gmail/SMS/call log app to reveal all available contact methods. How did that change with the introduction of the People app?

  • Anonymous

why is it different from the galaxy nexus version? i like this version a lot better.

  • Anonymous

Any changes to the clock or calculator app? I use the clock nightly, and I’d like to see a refresh to calculator (been the same since 2.0, but it was made nicer in Honeycomb, so I’m curious if ICS adopted Honeycomb’s look).

    • Tyler Cunning

The calculator app has changed it looks like a mini honeycomb calculator.

Why do people complain about the tmobile ads on this site? If they are making money off of those ads then good for them. They gotta pay the bills and hook us up with all the latest info every single day.

  • Pete

Hey Kellex thanks for more pics to drool over.  Does the Google talk app allow you to copy message text or any other options on long press now?  Very small detail but I have been waiting for an update to that for a while.

  • Anonymous

Is there anything new with the non-gmail email app, the calculator, car home, clock, news and weather? If so screenshots would be awesome!!! I’m still curious how 2.x apps work on 4.0, Does Google add a menu button to bottom of the screen?

  • Anonymous

Is the zero shutter lag a feature of ICS or just specific to the GN?

  • jbonics

With cm7 close behind, I hope

  • Banunkey55

+1 on having the Deftones in your library

  • Kixofmyg0t

I want that Gmail.apk for my bionic……..I have it on my Xoom and it’s nice.

  • Big John

I found the sound effects tab, but it opens the equalizer app that I have on my phone.

    • Anonymous

They both do the exact same thing.

  • Josh

OG Droid? Coming up on my renewal time, but it would be AWESOME to see this on my Original before I upgrade. Thanks to all who have kept supporting it!

  • Sruel3216

the only thing i dont like about ics is the google widgets. they are so ugly

  • Christopher Riner

or maybe they just don”t show up with the screen shot

  • Christopher Riner

so im noticing that there are no software buttons… I had kind of wondered if phones that had physical buttons were going to wind up with the little software buggers pancaked under the screen and on top of the physical ones.  Obviously not a problem for the GN, but will the software buttons be on the other devices when the updates come out?

    • Kixofmyg0t

I have to answer this and stop the madness from spreading.

ICS for ur phone WILL USE THE EXISTING SOFTKEYS. You won’t have the on screen keys unless ur phone lacks softkeys entirely.

Why is that so hard to figure out people?

    • Anonymous

Jeez people. Just follow logic if you haven’t already learnt that current phones with hardware buttons or capacitive buttons will not show the ICS on-screen buttons.

  • Keyboard looks nice. THe spacebar is huge

  • Gooncityfl

Does the face unlock feature work???

  • Anonymous

So what does this have that I already don’t have on my phone that I can get with free apps, mods and launchers? I have all these features already on my phone. Am I missing something? Miui and Sense call screens are better than ics one. Miui sms and go SMS are better than ics one. Sense and miui browsers and gallery are better than this one. Sense and miui camera are better than this one? Eq in music player and bookmarks widgets already in Sense. Not trying to be a dick but does this have that sense or miui doesn’t already have?

    • Dan

More options are always better, each person has a different preference.

      • Anonymous

Yes u r right I’ll look forward to any update and performance tweaks in may bring. For me I will stick with sense or miui because it offers more than stock ics with great performance. The movie editing app looks cool though.

    • This is just an SDK port dude. Wait to you see the real thing. Try to remember that everything you’re listing are alterations to Android as a whole. That’s why we’re all here. Choices.

      • Anonymous

Yes I need to be more optimistic about the update. Hopefully there is more when it is released. Its a little underwhelming now but stock always is I guess. It will be cool to see what HTC does with ics.

    • Anonymous

This will address the needs of the 90% (guessing of course) people who buy Android and never put a rom on.  Plus Sense based phones seem to have trouble keeping up with others in terms of battery because of things incorporated.  Hopefully this will give you what you need and nothing more.

“, and will likely make the Nexus S our weekly driver for the next week or so until the Galaxy Nexus is released.” So does that mean your “sources are still going with the nov 10 launch for verizon?

  • Anonymous

    Show it doing my dishes.

    • trololl

But your wife’s at my place.

  • Anonymous

Nice post, but you got the source totally wrong.

  • Kellex post a video walkthrough pweeeaaasssseeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

    • Anonymous

From what I’ve seen so far, it appears that “Vanilla Android” is becoming a lot more flavorful.  They seem to have developed a much more polished UI in ICS.

I’m one of those people that actually kinda likes the Moto skin on the Bionic.  But, the ICS UI looks really sexy.  There really is no need for a phone manufacturer to lay a skin over it.

  • cant wait

It says MMS but I am assuming that’s the SMS app?

  • Anonymous

Kellex can you post up the youtube apk for people to try?? I already have the gmail and music apps from ICS on my Bolt, and that would help fill the gaaps! *pun intended*!

    • Big John

Is the EQ in that music app on your Bolt?

  • can we get the gmail and browser apk for the OG droid?

    • Anonymous

it wont work as it is

  • Big John

Is that EQ built into the leak that dropped a little while back?

  • This just makes me want the Galaxy Nexus so much more!
