Non-Verizon Nexus Prime Cruises Through FCC, AT&T and T-Mobile Radios Included

The non-Verizon Nexus Prime aka Galaxy Nexus (GT-I9250) made its way into the FCC yesterday sporting both T-Mobile and AT&T radios. I know that this may disappoint our readers who were expecting this to be exclusive to Big Red when it first launches, but don’t worry, because that could still happen.

We received a press invite yesterday from a company at CTIA who let slip this line – “I know we’re up against the Samsung/Google news and the Verizon announcement…”  I would say that the goal initially was to let Samsung and Google do their thing on stage which would be followed by a press release from VZW on dates for the phone.  Now, we know none of that will be happening next week after hearing of a postponement, but I’d say the LTE version will still be the first out.

Don’t be surprised if you see the SCH-I515 cruise through the FCC next week.

So when DOES the SCH-i515 “cruise through the FCC”??

    Has it already?

my best friend’s mom makes $78 an hour on the computer. She has been out of job for 9 months but last month her check was $7587 just working on the computer for a few hours. Read about it here HardRich.com

  • deV

It would take a special sort of douchebag to be disappointed this phone is not a Verizon exclusive.

Are your readers really that childish? Verizon is a telecommunications corporation, not a baseball team. You can put away your foam fingers now.

  • Anonymous

not to mention with 2 different models it would make the updates need to be worked on 2 different brand new phones. Just can’t see google going through all that hassle. Guess we will find out soon enough and then all this crying and whining can stop.

  • Anonymous

yes the nexus s had 4g for sprint and not for tmo I think.

  • Anonymous

who cares if it doesnt have those specs. If it gets updates straight from google thats all I care about. Look at the nexus one on 2.3.6 every other non nexus is on at most 2.3.5 if they are lucky ( and im not talking about if they root either)

  • viewthis66

So what are the specs of the Verizon version? Besides it being 4g what’s the screen size, ram, processor, etc. Thanks.

  • Anonymous

.,amazing,.my best friend’s mom makes $74 an hour on the computer. She has been out of job for 9 months but last month her check was $7589 just working on the computer for a few hours. Read about it here http://ManyRich.com

  • Anthony

This is starting to remind me of how the O.G. Droid launched and like a month later the nexus one launched. Funny part about it the Nexus One is still getting updates faster then all newer androids except the Nexus S.

    Nexus One android version 2.3.6

  • Bill

My fear is less about the specs VZW approves and more about it not being a PGE device. I have earnestly waited for a phone that gets the latest updates as Google releases them as opposed to having to go through Verizon’s vetting process which more often than not limits (not expands) what the phone can do, prolongs the release of said updates, and includes Verizon’s BS bloatware.

VZW is not necessarily known for having the best and quickest updates. Recent example? DInc 2 got Gingerbread before T-bolt even though the latter was released earlier.

  • Spencer9663

What is up with Droid-Life comments becoming a troll fest?

  • nexus on the brain

Guys can anyone please tell me how this goes through the FCC if the processor that they are planning on putting into this is not ready?

    • Anonymous

because they are testing the processor doesn’t mean it will come out soon it could come out 3 months from now. They have to test it sometime before mass producing the product.

      • nexus on the brain

Thanks, but why in the heck would a phone that isn’t expected out for some time be hitting the FCC before a phone due out in a couple weeks?

        • Anonymous

Because maybe they don’t want people to be able to see the specs until they announce it?

  • Anonymous

Why don’t they just make it a GSM/CDMA/LTE phone or world phone?? I kind of wish I can take my VZW phone oversea and use their SIM…

Now we know the Nexus in the leak was not the Verizon version and probably not the render from the Samsung video. I guess only a few people really noticed the differences.

    • Anonymous

i think it was a nexus s running an unfinished ICS build. the phone in the video didnt look 4.65 inches.

  • http://twitter.com/ChrisJGarner Christopher Garner

Hell yeah. Please be released on the same day as the Verizon Nexus Prime.

  • Anonymous

I don’t care about the CPU difference .. you’ll never be able to tell in real use without benchmarks.. the camera means nothing as the ip4 is one of the best cameras on the market and is 5mp.. if the 200mah battery difference makes the phone thinner I wouldn’t mind knowing this will be an LTE and thick already.. and getting this phone now vs feb or march when OMAP may even best the exynos chip stop complaining we are about to get a stock ICS phone on VZW with the best specs ever announced in a phone made today on VERIZON.. I can’t wait … who knows what will be available in march but this WILL be my DX replacement

    • Anonymous

Agree just give me a stock ics device. The specs that leaked are fine it doesnt matter those other super specs will be outdone in a month anyway. You guys have fun waiting ill get me a stock device and be happy with it while you wait=)

    • Anonymous

I’ll believe it’s stock ICS on VZW when I see it. I’m losing faith in Big Red daily.

  • Anthony Etter

What makes me mad is that the Nexus s and 1 were carrier exclusive, and verizon had neither. Now, verizon skips the gsII for a “carrier exclusive phone” yet other carriers will have it? In my mind vzw is very stupid, because they aren’t getting a monstrous exclusive phone, nor is it really “exclusive”. Also, verizon has always had bad phones for the most part and the good ones are primarily Motorola. I don’t completely dislike Motorola, but I would have liked to have a HTC phone or Samsung one that has a dual core processor. Motorola is the only manufacturer that has implanted a dual core cpu into two of their phones, and both really aren’t that good. Look at tmobile, att, sprint; they all had dual core phone before verizon. I just want to have a phone that has ics before any other carrier, atleast for a couple of months.

    • Anonymous

well they are the largest carrier so they must be doing something right since they aren’t losing many customers and continue making profits. If you don’t like what they do go to one of the other carriers. This is android you get used to stuff like this. If you can’t than switch platforms because it isn’t going to change how many android phones come out and come out all the time.

  • jerry Martin

Hey if you want real 4G LTE you know where you gotta go

  • Anonymous

I’ll just be pissed if Verizon gets this dumbed down version of a real Nexus. I’d like to say I would vote with my wallet, but I know i’ll buy it anyway since it will make my D2 look like a child’s toy.

  • Alexander Garcia

It’s possible that the Verizon variant may be christened as the DROID PRIME or DROID NEXUS or something along the DROID branding pattern. The DROID line is Verizon’s precious marketing tool. They may go all out and market the new NEXUS as a DROID. The non-geeks have no idea what the significance of the NEXUS is at all, but they sure do know what a DROID is. Heck, they mistaken all Android devices as DROIDs. So the DROID marketing brand works brilliantly.

    • Matthew Morrison

its makes me pissed off when ppl do that! theres a difference all androids r not DROIDS

      • Anonymous

Right, Just because it says Droid (whatever), a Droid is as the Original a “Motorola Droid” The OG, Droid II, Droid X, Droid III, Droid X2,  and The Droid Bionic, all others are just Androids. Samsung (whatever) is an Android, HTC (whatever) is an Android… Idk maybe I’m just OldSchool, but all these other supposedly Droids, just don’t feel like a Droid in my hand… I’m Just Sayin!

        • Anonymous

htc and samsung both make droids on verizon. it isnt just a moto thing.

          • Anonymous

Yes, they do but as my comment stated, the build quality of the others (HTC & Samsung) can not stand up to the Motorola Droid, basically those are Subdroids, Motorola is the OG Droid and every Droid after that except for the Charge can stand in line with the OG… Droid Eris, Droid Incredible, Droid Thunderbolt, all plastic and basically suck. And being a Droid is a Moto thing, being an Android isn’t.

          • Anonymous

Actually being a droid is a Verizon thing not moto. Otherwise there would be droid on other carriers.

          • Anonymous

      • Anonymous

We all love our phones, but Verizon needs to give us something up to date and not something that is always behind the pack.

  • Dream

For all of you complaining about getting the weaker version of the Nexus wont you either just go with the Vigor which HTC’s Flagship and wait a few for ICS or jump ship geez

    • Anonymous

why? can i trust them after thunderbolt?

    • Anonymous

What is this nonsense of two Nexus phones. There’s only one Nexus, but sill come I’m different flavors. CDMA/LTE for Verizon and GSM for international. It’s still the same damn phone with the same specs. Also, people seem to forget this is a Google phone, not a Samsung phone. The processor will obviously have OMAP because Exynos is practically exclusive to Samsung, so why would they do that. Google is trying to really unify the hardware and software, so they pick a processor to work with and many OEMs make their devices with those specifications. Tht way, the experience is much smoker and intergrated. What they did with Honeycomb, they’ll do with ICS. Also, I’m pretty sure there’s no Galaxy Nexus or whatever. It’s the Nexus Prime or Nexus ___.

    • Anonymous

If Verizon’s version has weaker specs, I will go with the HTC Vigor or switch to AT&T.

      • Anonymous

Possibly same here. I’d love to have a Nexus, but to be honest I sorta like Sense.

    • Anonymous

because a “dumbed down” nexus will still be better than a flagship htc.

  • Goblueboy

What are these rumors of the nexus prime being worse then any other nexus? That has never happened before. All nexus’s are similar except for the data connection then can get.

  • Anonymous

Will the exynos prime version ever make Verizon? I kind of want that…

  • Anonymous

its funny how everyone takes these roomers and just runs with them complaining as if they are solid facts. Who cares if Verizon is first to get this phone or not, and who cares if the specs are slightly different? Im just stoked there will be a nexus on verizon!!

anyone else stoked?? or just worried about slight variations on phones that are coming out on other networks and if vz will have it first or not

    • tpags

Will there be a nexus on Verizon? There is no slight variations of a nexus. Its either a true nexus or it isn’t. And that my friend is the question. I could care less if US cellular also gets it, I just want a true nexus on VZW. I want updates from google not samsung.

      • Anonymous

there will be a vanilla android nexus on verizon but it wont have the drop dead awesome specs of the other rumored nexus on other carriers.

        • tpags

I hope your right. Only time will tell. But at this point, it wouldn’t surprise me. I just remember getting ousted from the nexus 1 with VZW. I went to the pre order page daily hoping it got updated with a VZW pre order and it never happened. So come on VZW don’t let us down dammit!!!

        • Justin

          1GB RAM
          1750 mah battery
          NFC
          9mm thin
These arent “drop dead awesome specs”??? You’re an idiot.

          • Anonymous

Look at the other version and don’t call me an idiot. These specs are no where near the other phones specs.

          • Justin

So all it takes for the VZW versions specs to be “no where near” the other version is 3 more mp in the camera and .3 ghz on the clock speed? Really? The OMAP 4460 is a great chip in its own right. Youre very badly mistaken if you think specs make a phone so much better, its really software. The G2X had much better “specs” than the nexus s but we all know it was a buggy piece of crap. Software is key. The Galaxy Nexus has more than enough balls to be an amazing phone.

          • Anonymous

cpu, gpu, and battery are all upgrades. sorry I want the best and you like to settle. guess that’s the difference between us.

I become more and more disappointed with Verizon every day. The news just seems to get worse and worse.

    • KevinC

Why? What’s the big deal if a phone is not exclusive to one carrier?

      • Anonymous

i want the best spec’d phone. damnit.

        • KevinC

has google ever released different specs for each carrier’s nexus?

settle down and quit buying into all of the silly rumors, which are just that, rumors.

          • Anonymous

Yes everything till now is rumor.  But based on history the other carriers seem to get the better spec’d phones. I for once would like to see Verizon get the best phone.

          • literofcola

I for one, don’t care about this phone being carrier exclusive.  I just don’t want Verizon to have a red-headed stepchild of the true Nexus.  If there are indeed two, and the non-Verizon verison has a better camera/faster processor, I’m done.  After the Galaxy S2 fiasco, I’ll seriously be considering going to Sprint to get the Epic 4G Touch, and eventually get ICS anyways, but, with a better phone than the Verizon “Nexus”

          • tiredofcrybabies

Galaxy S2 fiasco?? The reason they passed on the SGS2 was because theyre getting the Nexus. Thats not a fiasco. People have been reporting since June that the Prime/Galaxy Nexus will have the OMAP 4460. Just like Tegra 2 was the platform for Honeycomb, OMAP is the platform for ICS. That rumored version of the Exynos hasnt even began sampling yet, so there is no reason to believe those rumors of an Exynos in the GSM version. Quit crying about clock speed, software is the key. And the camera, expect it to be very nice. Like its been said many times before, MP’S dont really count for squat. Im seriously sick of you crybabies getting your shorts in a wad over RUMORED specs! The Galaxy Nexus will be an amazing phone.

          • KevinC

based on history google has released the same nexus phone on every carrier, with the only difference being radio hardware.

      • Anonymous

        People are cry babies

      • nailbomb3

I don’t think its a big deal at all really with but one exception We VZW customer probably feel like its high time that we finally get something other than a substandard device.

Hell I’d all for switching to another carrier, except I live in an area where VZW pretty much IS the only viable carrier so that’s a non option for me.

Let’s just all cross our fingers hehehe…

  • Turb0wned

This is starting to look like the verizon sgs2 let down all over again.

  • Anonymous

why would anyone care or want a phone to be exclusive to a certain carrier…Do there have to be mindless fanboys for everything???

    • jerry Martin

Seems like it…I guess it helps boost thier faltering egos

  • Anonymous

Oh this makes rumba cembe very mad. Maybe i go to hut and beat wife # 2 and 5 today!

  • Jojo

So I hear the non-Verizon Nexus is a lot better than the Verizon one. Except for LTE.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Michael-Forte/542650247 Michael Forte

Key words: Except for LTE. Who cares about a great phone if it’s not on a great network? I think Verizon’s version of the Nexus will be great. It’s not like the rumors of the non-Verizon version’s specs are insanely better, but only slightly better.

      • babadush

Its just a different processor and a 5mp camera. What’s the big deal? Root it. Setcpu it to 1.5ghz. Problem solved. I agree with you

    • Leron

Ya, the Verizon Nexus is pretty much a different phone from the other Nexus. I’m disappointed that we’re getting a hand me down.

      • Zeo52

Kind of sucks Google is giving Verizon the crappier version.

        • Anonymous

Verizon gets what it wants…. They just have low expectations and don’t give a shit.

          • Dustin carney

I switched to att from verizon, verizon double billed us and said pay both or we will shut off your service. Att is so much better, we got anotehr smartphone, and our bill dropped by 190 a month.

          • christian cerda

The vzw version is coming out in 2 weeks the other c
Versions in March for all we know.. The exynos chip isn’t even being produced yet… You’ll never tell the difference in real usage without benchmarks and who knows what chips and phones will be available in 4 months anyway it could make this phone look outdated… I don’t understand how ppl can compare 2 phones that have release dates months apart… Now if they were released at the same time I could validate everyones complaints

        • Loki

While I’ll still get the official Google phone over any other on Verizon, if Verizon’s version of the current generation Nexus is crappier than others’ then I’d be disappointed. I would finally get a Nexus and it’s the runt of the pack.

      • http://www.facebook.com/borgey401 Andrew Borges

No way, that two versions crap is so out of line. Think about it, why would Google offer two Nexus’ with two different specs? People just have way too much time on their hands in my opinion. Shit, as long as it’s a vanilla android phone with an unlocked bootloader then I’ll be happy.

        • Anonymous

I would be happy too, but why does Verizon always get the crappier version of everything?

          • http://www.facebook.com/borgey401 Andrew Borges

Trust me I hear you, I just sent an e-mail to Verizon explaining that exact situation. It’s pretty pathetic actually. Hopefully they finally listen to us and we get the phone we’ve all been wanting for years now. This is all I have ever wanted ever since my original DROID died…… Why it is so hard to get a good developer phone on Verizon? It’s phucking redic……

          • Anonymous

The OG Droid is a good phone….Mine still works, but it is time for an upgrade. The nexus can’t get here soon enough…..I hope they don’t delay the release date.

          • Papoose34328

you should post the email you sent to verizon so that all of us on DL can start sending it in! the more people that send it in the better so that they’ll no its just one customer that feels that way!

        • tpags

There wont be 2 nexus’, only 1 of them. The other will most likely just be the prime. I want a vanilla ice cream sandwich not a touchwiz infused ice cream sandwich. Although it will still be great phone but it would be nice to get a true nexus. I can’t wait to see if the 2 are drastically different in design. I hope not.

          • http://www.facebook.com/borgey401 Andrew Borges

I’m with you on that, I’ve always been a vanilla Android fanboy. I am not a fan of skinned Android at all. It would be absolutely awesome to get a true Nexus. Lets not forget the pictures that Kellex posted the other week of a phone called “Nexus Prime” showed up in Verizons Cellibrite system. That is a very good sign of what’s to come, not to mention the line that Kellex just dropped at the end of this article. The one about Samsung/Google and Verizons big announcement. Now I am just wondering when will Samsung/Google actually announce this device? I really hope it’s soon so everybody can return to normal. This device has so many people all fired up including myself.

          • jerry Martin

Doesn’t matter to me If Verizon doesn’t start letting people upgrade earlier they will just have lots of phones thats nobody is buying. At the ratio to how often new phones are being offered to the slow rate of being able to upgrade the game is changing……Who’s got the money to buy a better phone at full price every few months…who does? maybe they will buy me one ;)

If the non-Verizon model doesn’t have LTE then there is no possible way for it to be “a lot better.”

  • POOP_on_YOU

Because it will make them better to everyone else? Can you imagine a world when everyone had the same superior phone?!?! OMG!

  • Ndb132

Great news..now everyone can finally stop complaining and just patiently await the announcement. It’s not like we don’t already know what we are going to hear..it’s just a matter of what we’ll finally get to see (new features of ICS)

Cuz they don’t want to switch providers for a phone.

    • Sperho

Exactly, which is why I would think people would be happy that it is going to be available on more than one carrier.  This statement implies that people would be upset if it were on more than one carrier:  ” I know that this may disappoint our readers who were expecting this to be exclusive to Big Red when it first launches, but don’t worry, because that could still happen.”

  • Sperho

Why do people care if it’s exclusive to Verizon?

    • Anonymous

Agreed, that’s the least significant party of all this to me.

    • Matthew Morrison

IDC but y cant we get the same specs?

      • jerry Martin

Something about first to market production times and what comes down the pike between. Being the first doesn’t always mean the best in specs

        • Anthony

Well in the nexus one case it was good to get it first on T-Mobile. Some of the later att version had a totally different screen.
