Samsung Updates Nexus Teaser, Mentions Screen Tech and Takes Mini-shot at Apple

Samsung  just released an updated Nexus teaser video. This is exactly the same as the previous version but adds two things of mention. There is a new combination – a bride and groom, plus a cheap shot at the expense of Apple and the so-so changes that were announced for their new handset yesterday. Or of course, it could just be a hint that this device will have a beautifully ‘curved’ screen.

This added bit definitely gives the video some more spice and of course, we still love looking at this device from the side.

Hurry up and show us the whole device, Sammy!

Samsung just hit apple with a one two punch. Come Tuesday October 11th, they will knock Apple out!

I have come to this reality that as of late Samsung has alot better products than Apple. I own a Macbook Pro, ipod touch, and a Rooted Htc Evo. I’m just stating that in computers Apple is excellent but in smartphones they are falling behind the times. In 2007 the iphone was the best thing, but it never evolved to something better from a software stand point. Now competition has seen where they have fallen short and they are correcting their mistakes, while apple don’t. Just look at the Galaxy S2 it is the smoothest Android phone on the market that blends hardware and software beautifully.

I just have a gut feeling that Verizon is going to give us some Touchwized bloat full DROID branded Prime. All I have ever wanted was a Nexus device on Verizon. I remember on the Google Nexus One sales page it said “coming to Verizon Wireless soon” and Verizon completely failed. They offered us the DROID Incredible instead….. thanks Verizon, thanks. If they mess this one up then it’s a wrap.

Anyone knows the name for that awesome background song :D?

    • Eric Hedden

It’s very probably original music made for the commercial.

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=797475274 Nadeem Najib Kizi

:( they should release the song as an mp3, not only is it awesome, but it will be the song that we will remember as used in a commercial that will change everything

  • Greyhaven7

This is what I believe the phone looks like BEHIND the blue glow. (Sorry for the shoddy Photoshop work, it was a bit rushed.)

    • Keith Sumner

      wow nice job!!!

    • Anonymous

Good work bro. You can kind of make out where the camera and 4G radio will be. Thanks.

  • http://www.facebook.com/omgitzjose Jose Guitian Cicero

judging by the whole combo theme i think its deff gonna be the nexus and a nexus tab and they go together either as a dock or something.

  • Anonymous

I may have missed it, but what’s the processor the Prime is suppose to be using?  Is it the exynos?  Similar to the SGS II?

“we still love looking at this device from the side. ”

    It’s the side-boob hour!

Bye bye Droid Charge, you shitty piece of plastic, and hello Samsung Prime, you sexy hunk of metal.

    • Madcow06

Knowing Samsung it won’t be metal, but I’m with you on hoping it is!

  • Hightop

Im guessing november 3 is the date for release only because 11-3-2011 is a “nexus” of prime numbers

    • Hightop

Oh and its also a thursday

  • Keith Sumner

Droid-Life, please don’t forget about the Droid Bionic, you haven’t posted much lately and this is my primary source for keeping up with hacks, roms, etc.

  • J Dub

So there is the blue from Honeycomb and the green from Gingerbread in the commercial. Kinda hints at the ICS mantra right?

  • Anonymous

My wife wants an ip4s to replace her bb bold, but I told her she has to to wait until this phone comes out before I will buy it for her.

  • Jason Purp

I’m confused as to why Apple’s “new” device is using a Samsung chip after all of the lawsuits.

I really am confused though, I’m not just saying that. Somebody help me out lol.

    • Anonymous

Because Samsung is bigger than its mobile division and both sides found it mutually beneficial.

      • Jason Purp

Ah, that’s what I thought. I was gonna ask if that was why, but I couldn’t recall the word “division” lol
        Thanks :)

  • Anonymous

I sure hope that this has better marketing than the bionic!  All the hype and hopes for that thing failed the day after it became available.  Any idea what the bionic sales numbers are?  Yes…I am the type that buys on image lol, but really, where are all of the droid bionic commercials and ads?  (The tune for this video is quite the tease)

  • Rp780

    Are Samsung devices durable?

    • Keith Sumner

      not as much as moto

      • Rp780

& that is what I’m coming from the OG…I don’t know what to do now :-(

    • Anonymous

Hell no. My Droid Charge looks like someone took their anger out on it and ive had it for 4 months. My droid x, that i got on launch week (july 24 2010) looks almost brand new except for some scratches on the screen. I don’t treat my phones very badly, just the regular in the pocket and i even have my phone always in it’s own pocket without anything else in it and my droid charge has a big area of the faux chrome gouged out, dents in the chrome, dents in the plastic battery cover and scratches on everything plastic. The screen has a screen protector and it’s very scratch resistant but that’s about it. The prime is supposed to have a metal backing and a metal rim and it’s very skinny. I’ve always wished for a metal samsung phone with their eye shattering samoled screens and they even added stock android. I am throwing this thing in the trash as soon as i can to get my hands on the prime.

      • Rp780

Thanks for the reply. That is the only thing holding me back. Between work (rushing from meeting to meeting) and home (three year old & dog) my phone is the recipient of lots of abuse. My OG Droid is still ticking (but dying slowly) despite numerous drops.

I have to admit, the NEXUS has got me excited, just like the Vigor, who will win my upgrade!

  • Rich Dillon

I have to say, the Iphone is ussually at the top for “aesthetic appeal”, or at least near the top. I have a thunderbolt and ill be the first to admit its not the sexiest looking phone.

But, This….this raises the bar for looks on a phone. With just the side view…

    • Some Random Dude

the nexus got them curves ;)

  • http://twitter.com/timberwolfkw Kyle Wilkins

Wow. That’s a pretty curved device. I hope it’s flexible so I can turn it in a flip phone! Ahhh those were the days…

  • Anonymous

Do people not know the expression, “Ahead of the curve?” The cheap shot is fairly obvious IMO.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Brian-Sargent/100000071813583 Brian Sargent

The curved screen is interesting.  So the screen is on the concave side?  Cant wait to see it.

    • Anonymous

Its just like the Nexus S curved screen.

      • Anonymous

I don’t think the NEXUS S’ screen is this curved, you can probably see the arch when placing it upside down on a flat surface whereas with the NEXUS S, you wouldn’t see much of an arch to know its curved. a curved screen is interesting though considering it is a phone after all and we use phones for talking too, not just for playing with apps, although that is rapidly changing too

  • EC8CH

    Here’s the joke people:

i*hone 4S release falls flatter than it’s profile.
Galaxy Nexus stays ahead of the curve… it’s sexy sexy curve.

  • Anonymous

I love this video. Whoever made it needs a promotion.

  • Dave

It’s not much of a stretch to think that “Always ahead of the curve” is a double entendre for the curve of the display and the fact the iPhone 4S announcement wasn’t anything mind blowing as to be “behind the curve”.

    Might be too subtle.

    • IFansRidiots

It’s not too subtle…people are just slow as hell on here

  • http://tristanleawesome.tumblr.com Tristan the Marine

I see nothing that can be tied to apple without some real stretches of imagination.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_KTGKBDMFNMTHTXUT3ILVEUOKEE matts

      Agreed.

    • Anonymous

Well, it seems like the last part was a last minute thing. Chances are they just added it because everyone has been stroking their ego about how much better the GSII seems to against the 4S. They keep posting the info graph and such on Twitter. So yea, I do think they are taking a shot at Apple.

  • Anonymous

Man, I swear they’re doing some fancy overlay thing combining the Prime and the S and then peeling away the S very quickly. I wish I could watch the video in slow motion instead of pushing play/pause in quick succession…

    • Anonymous

Download it using a site that converts YouTube vids into movie files, then use a player that can play in frames or manually by frame like GOM player or VLC

  • http://www.facebook.com/Pengwnmastr Mitchell Johnson

ehhh, I like the previous video better. This one moved waaaaay too fast. If you’re not a fast reader, granted they are only two words, you might miss what Samsung is trying to say.

    • http://twitter.com/timberwolfkw Kyle Wilkins

Apple prides themselves on being the first and the best. With a lot of people disappointed with their i*hone 4S Samsung mentioned they were ahead of the curve. I caught the “shot” at Apple but I think Kellex and myself looked too much into it. Although they did go back and throw it in.

  • Some Random Dude

….now that i think of it.. i haven’t had an icecream sandwich in a  while..

  • kruglovus

Where is the cheap shot at Apple? You are seeing thing. Stop worrying about what others have or don’t have. Just enjoy what you have.

    • Anonymous

I was wondering that too.  I think this has become a Rorschach test for Android fanboys — seeing stuff that isn’t there.   Kellex, you might want to see a doc for your Apple obsession.  Hopefully we won’t find out you’ve been feeding Steve Jobs rat poison for the past 4 years while masquerading as his butler.

      • Some Random Dude

maybe theyr talking about production possibilities curve… where in ahead of the curve means an economic growth  and behind the curve means resources not used or inefficienly used.  …….. nah.. theyr probably just talking about the curved screen..

I’m not sure.  I didn’t notice any shots at Apple.  *shrug*

    • Anonymous

I was wondering this too but then I got it… An apple has curves… Samsung is “Always ahead of the curve”!

      Well, I tried.

      • EC8CH

the jab would be that the i*hone 4S is “behind” the curve.

As in their latest release of the i*hone 4S is falling behind the competition.

      • Anonymous

I still don’t get it. Every device has curves….someone please explain the apple shot to me.

        • Anonymous

sometimes a curve is just a curve, especially since the prime is curved.

          • Anonymous

Sure. Use Occam’s razor on us… Where’s the fun in that?

          • EC8CH

            no… that’s Moto’s next phone.

      • Anonymous

Better yet, the curve refers to the bite mark of the apple logo…

    • Anonymous

The curve is that apple and their devices’ technology is behind the curve and lackluster technology improvements and overall not innovative. Samsung/google is always innovating, installing the latest technology and ahead of the “technology” curve simple

and i’m an african who lives in a hut and i could figure this out jeez!

      • http://tristanleawesome.tumblr.com Tristan the Marine

Or it could be a pun on the curved screen, which is more likely.

        • pezjono

A pun is a phrase that has two meanings. So it would not be pun only about a curved screen. It WOULD be a pun if they meant it has a curved screen AND was above the par set by other similar technologies (i.e. iPhone 4S).

          • Anonymous

A pun is a play on words. A double entendre is something that has two meanings. Tristan was right.

          • user01

What do you mean by that?  I have a different definition for every word you used and, for that reason, don’t get what you just said.

        • Connor Moore

Its clearly a double entendre. Favorite example of this by far is Blink-182’s album “Take Off Your Pants and Jacket”. Classic. HAHA

          • Anonymous

Am I the only one who is understanding this for the first time now?! Got the album when I was like 12…

      • Anonymous

You’re reaching really far. It’s clear from the video that the phone that Samsung will be unveiling will have a curved screen.

      • Crackmonkeys4hire

Wow do you get WIFI in that hut?

Ahh, Rumba where have you been my friend, long time no hear lol Your boy Jeff Bernard has been in and out lately trolling again.  I will give him a pass this month, sad the Steve Jobs passed he will be missed.

      • Jiggy

samsung has to keep innovating because they are still behind!!!

    • EC8CH

      The shot should have been:

“Hey… Look what we’ve been building while you’ve been to busy suing us to come up with anything better than your lame ass i*hone 4s”

but maybe that would have been too direct?

      • http://www.facebook.com/japultra Jason Nguyen

Or maybe it was a shot at RIM and their Blackberry Curve :D

        • EC8CH

That would be like saying that water is wet

    • Anonymous

Yeah, Tato, there is no jab at Apple there. Sorry dude. :|

    • Anonymous

Obviously it could be interpreted that Apple has fallen behind the curve, or that Apple is the “curve”  Honestly, I initially thought it was because the phone is curved lol.

I think Android is about to deliver the final blow to Apple alright

    • Anonymous

Please, “the final blow”, in your dreams.  The 4s will still sell 5x as much as the prime and the iphone will continue to be the best selling smartphone for the next 2-3 years.  The prime will no doubt be a better phone but winners and loosers of this game are measured in dollars, not fanboys’ erections.

      • Anonymous

Actually, I think that last bit contributes to the dollars.
