NDrive And Droid Life Give You A Chance To Win 1 of 8 USA Map Licenses

by: | posted 10.31.11 | Contests, News

The good people over at NDrive want Droid Life readers to celebrate as we head into November by  giving them a chance to win 1 of 8 NDrive USA licenses. These licenses are priced at about $43 a piece, making it one of the most expensive Android apps I know of. NDrive is a navigation and GPS alternative for Android users that is a huge hit in Europe. Excellent turn-by-turn directions, multi-touch gestures, and a bunch of other great features make it one of the most dynamic apps available for drivers.

Instructions to win:

1. Head on over to Facebook and like both the Droid Life and NDrive pages.
2. Update your status on Facebook to the following:

@Droid Life is hooking it up with 8 @NDrive Android licenses – Just in time for the holidays!”

3. You have 3 days to enter, and entries will be cut off at 10PM EST on Thursday the 3rd of November.
4. NDrive will then select the 8 winners and contact them.

It’s as easy as pie. Good luck to everyone who enters. If you want to check out NDrive in the Market, you can do so here.

New Google+ App Available on Android: New UI Inspired by Ice Cream Sandwich, Battery Life and Navigation Improvements

by: | posted 10.31.11 | Apps, News

The new Google+ is available in the Android Market for all to install. It is being referred to as a “completely new app” with a new visual design that was inspired by the team that designed Android 4.0. You will see battery life and GPS improvements, a new posting UI, “significant” notifications tweaks, and more. After just a few minutes with it, I can definitely say that it matches the Youtube ICS app in styling, so they weren’t lying when they said it was meant to look similar. I love the way Google is starting to focus on design with their apps – long gone are the days when we were just happy to see them produce plain jane stuff. It’s time to make things pretty-fied.

And be sure to add my Droid Life specific page to your G+ circles.

The above document was just passed along to us from our friends at Verizon, confirming that November 10 is the day that the DROID RAZR will be on store shelves. It packs a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, 4.3″ Super AMOLED Advanced display, is the thinnest smartphone around at 7.1mm, and crushes downloads over Big Red’s 4G LTE network.

You can view our hands-on video and gallery with the phone here and here.

Anyone pre-order?

GetJar Offering A Slew Of Free Apps Including GRave Defense HD, TweetCaster, And More for Halloween

by: | posted 10.31.11 | Apps, Games, News

Back in August, GetJar started giving apps away in a program called GetJar Gold. They are constantly switching out the apps in this program, which today include a few that might interest you all. TweetCaster will run someone $5 in the Android Market, but go grab it for free from GetJar for a limited time and save yourself an Abe Lincoln. GRave Defense HD which is a couple of bucks, can be had for free too. No one should argue with free, legit applications.

It’s like what Amazon does but on a different time frame. GetJar will have multiple apps for free during a week’s time, where as Amazon has a new app every day. Either way, it’s a sweet little deal. Go take advantage.

Telegraph: Galaxy Nexus Launching in the U.S. After November 17

by: | posted 10.31.11 | News, Rumors

An article published by the UK’s Telegraph this morning has our inbox filling up with worried future Galaxy Nexus owners. Could the world’s first Ice Cream Sandwich device launch in Europe on November 17, but not in the U.S. for another couple of weeks? According to this article, that’s exactly what will happen. Here is the quote from the piece that has scared us all:

“At a recent Samsung European launch…the company confirmed that the European launch will precede the device going on sale in America and the rest of the world.”

Uh oh. Could it be? Last week, the internets were abuzz when Samsung announced in London that the device would most definitely be out on November 17 in Europe, but this is the first time we have seen “America” brought up. I would say that most of us were under the impression that the U.S. version would more than likely be out at that same time to make for one big Euro-American launch. Now, I wasn’t at the event to know if Samsung actually used the word “America” or not, so I would say that we shouldn’t freak out too much at this point and look at this as purely rumor. This is the first time we have seen any news publication use something other than that the phone would roll out in Europe and the “rest of the world thereafter.”

Verizon has told us that the phone will be out some time this year – whether or not that’s November 17 is still a mystery. You can all survive for another week or so, can’t you?
