System App List for the Galaxy Nexus Leaks: No Bloatware in Sight, Lots of New Stuff

The folks over at MyDroidWorld have posted what they (and we) believe to be the system application list for the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Nexus on Verizon.  Some very interesting things are embedded in this list, most noticeably the fact that there are no bloatware apps.  As a possible “Nexus” device, we wouldn’t expect there to be any, but this is a good sign that at least this build does not currently have any.

Some other things that stuck out were the apps labeled NFCGoogle.apk and FaceLock.apk.  We expected to see NFC technology as a Nexus, but were not necessarily expecting to see facial recognition software just yet.  Remember, we first saw this demoed at Google I/O just a few months back.

Also, there is an app called ChromeBookmarksSyncAdapter.apk which suggests that there will finally (seriously, FINALLY) be a way for you to sync your Chrome browser with the new Ice Cream Sandwich browser.

We are just a little over a week away from seeing this all unveiled at CTIA.  Full list below.

Your thoughts?  Anything I missed?

I am still rocking a rooted eris I picked up at launch.  I was drooling over the SII till this whole Nexus came to light.  Can’t wait.

    • http://www.facebook.com/joseph.a.yager Joseph A. Yager

Same here!  I am trying to imagine going from our 3.2 inch screen to 4.65…and I’m imagining it will kick a…

Kevin Voelker, are you from Connecticut?

      • Kevin Voelker

        Nope…

Is navigation built into the maps.apk?  I know you can navigate from the current Maps app but i was under the impression is was just a hand off

    • Dave

      Yes, I believe so.

    • http://www.facebook.com/joseph.a.yager Joseph A. Yager

Tis – along with Latitude, etc, that’s partly why the Maps apk has gotten so large.

  • Trooper

Sounds cool.  Really hope this is the real deal nexus!

    • Anonymous

They need to make this perfect. A great build quality and great colors saturation :)

  • http://www.facebook.com/skrewee Lewis McGeorge

My OG just ran out of the room crying and hid in the closet?! It must know what’s coming…

  • http://profiles.google.com/kchrpm Keith Heard

I hope the PlusOne.apk means there will be functionality like HTC Status has with it’s Facebook button.  I would love a softkey in the bottom tray that lets you +1 a websites, app, song, whatever with one press while you’re in it.  If you can share it, or a screencap, to your stream via a pop-up, without leaving the app you’re in, even better.

  • Anonymous

If this ends up getting released on Nov. 3rd as was previously rumored, that will be one hell of a weekend. I’ll be first in line to upgrade to this from my OG Droid, and the next day get to see Louis CK live. crossing my fingers!

  • Dave

    I wonder, what’s Galaxy4.apk?

    • Keith Sumner

      Live wallpaper

      • Dave

        Aha, thanks!

  • Anonymous

And verizon may have a winner here….is about time…….took them long enough…

  • Anonymous

there isnt movie studio in the build, wasnt that on the leak last night? guess that was fake.

  • J RIDD

The only thing I am worried about are Samsung’s radios. Specifically the Wifi and 4G LTE. I really wish they would throw in some Moto hardware. I guess that will be the Next Nexus, from MotoGoogle.

    • FoolOnTheHill

      Moogle?

    • Anonymous

That is my wish, a moto nexus device. I do not trust sammy nor htc on build nor sound quality.

  • UncagedChipmunk

As much as a hate to buy another Samsung device (had nothing but failures…dvd player, bluray, 2 tvs, and a phone) If this had no bloat and no (Apple look) Touchwiz I just might have to bit on this one versus the HTC Vigor. I can’t have a without a AMOLED screen. (Have an Droid Incredible currently)

    • hkklife

Only 3 things remain that might prevent me from getting one of these:

      1. Poor battery life.  This can go either way. I am just worried about the NP due to its thinness after seeing only mediocre battery life with Bionics and the extended battery.

      2. No microHDMI-out.  This seems to be a given.  With ICS and this kind of horsepower and LTE, I could envision using video-out even more than I do now.   But MHL dongles are a joke.  I really wish Verizon would have forced Sammy to carry over the Droid Charge’s HDMI port.

      3. Still a chance of WVTA (800×480) resolution like the GS II siblings.   But all signs are pointing to a 720p screen so we should be OK.

  • Idunno

Well, with the new LTE based GS2HD Samsung announced in Korea, you can see what the NP would be like.
The only thing I didn’t like about is the screen.  Even though it’s HD, Samsung went back to the Pentile.  It’s not Super AMOLED Plus-HD, which mean the display will eat up lots of juice just like the first GS.

    HoloSpiralWallpaper.apk
I thought it said “Halo” for a second. About had my mind blown.

  • http://twitter.com/willyBbridge a.d.AM

Nice.  I want it on my NS4G!!!!

  • Keith Sumner

I don’t see this in any way reflecting the final build or retail release. The leak we saw yesterday with the phone running ICS wasn’t even complete and was a beta build.

    • Dave

Don’t be so sure, early leaks of the Thunderbolt’s system dump and RUU (back in January I believe) had bloatware in it well before the actual release of the phone.

Not saying you’re wrong though. Nothing is ever final till it’s available to order by consumers. :-)

      • Keith Sumner

That’s for sure, not ’til we get it in our hands is anything guaranteed.

  • Anonymous

Looking so far, I just hope Verizon keeps their Red paws off :)  If this device shaps up to be a beast then look out I might have to stop by the store and pick up my new Ice Cream Sandwich with that delicous Google flavor :)

  • Rob Becker

So glad I held off on getting a new phone on contract. This can’t come soon enough!

  • Anonymous

Considering there is no Android Market present, they still have apks to add. Let’s hope they don’t add crapware at the same time.

    • Dave

      Hmm You’re right, no Vending.apk.

  • Anonymous

Come on verizon leave it this way!

  • guest

VZWAPNlib.apk and VZWAPNService.apk are probably to handle tethering on Verizon’s network, right? Right?

what does Microbes.apk mean? do I have to get a vaccine to use the phone?

where’s the little vzw app that tries to shut down tethering?

  • http://www.facebook.com/joseph.a.yager Joseph A. Yager

I keep unpacking bloatware of my own with each new rumor – stupid waiting!

  • http://profiles.google.com/robert.macri Robert Macri

Why would I want to lock my face?

    • Anonymous

      Facial recognition lock screen?

      • Anonymous

Wouldn’t you be able to defeat that by holding up a picture of the phone’s owner? Sure, it provides protection if a stranger picks up your phone, but not someone you know.

        • Anonymous

Yea that would definitely be an easy way to bypass it haha…unless its Minority Report style and scans your eyeballs!

          • Anonymous

            Now that would be cool.

    • Anonymous

I think it is a business feature.  It’s to keep your eyes open during long and boring meetings.

  • Anonymous

still no official picasa app, wtf

    • EC8CH

isn’t picasa pretty much getting rolled up into G+ anyway?

      • Anonymous

Places is rolled up into maps but they are still separate programs

  • Higgs

Will this be a slider with arrow keys?

    • Droid One

      That would be great!

    • Anonymous

      um, no. Definitely not.

    • Titan

If it is then I’m buying.

      • Hojo

I’d like to have a slider Nexus phone but the rumored 4.65″ screen is a deal breaker. I can handle the phone being a little thicker but all these 4.3+ inch phones are too big in the other directions.

    • Anonymous

I hope not. All you need is a swype style keyboard and you’ll never have to slide the keypad out again. I’m just speaking out of frustration b/c my OG Droid slides open in my pocket all the time and brain farts when I close it & try to unlock it after.

      • http://twitter.com/kepley thundercleese.

Hahaha, I’m glad you typed this comment before I had to.

        +1!

        • Anonymous

Worst part is that it’s rooted, running Peter Alfonso’s Ginger Bread w/ the CPU maxed and it still does this all the time. Arghhhh.

          • J Dub

GB, no matter who builds it, just does not run well on my OG. It’s not terrible, but it’s enough stuff that it bugs me. I have been on PE 4.2 for a while now. Smooth as silk. I do miss the system wide copy and paste though.

Another thing is the .8.6 Launcher Pro messes with my keyboard and other keyboarded phones. He as yet to fix this bug. It’s all over the reviews for LP in the market.

          • Mark

            That explains your problems.

      • Anonymous

I’ve had my Droid since launch. The sliding mechanism is just as solid as it was when I got it. No case either.

        • Anonymous

The slider’s not broken by any means. It just slides open enough for the phone to trigger landscape mode when I forget to take it out of my pocket & sit down.

          • Anonymous

mine does the same thing were it pops open just enough to trigger the screen on, also i got a replcement a few months ago and when i got the new one it almost felt like my old one was broken because the springs were out in the slider, unfortionatly i think i have killed the springs again.

        • Anonymous

          Same. No issues with slider.
My OG droid’s only issue has been the power button, but that is more my fault for jamming it into a case by that button on top too many times.
I haven’t been able to pull the trigger on the bionic, so I’m hoping this might be the guy that replaces old faithfull.
For those of you that own samsung devices out there, are you all happy with the phone itself? I have never been unhappy with a Moto product. Tough, works well, good actual phones.
I am really excited to see what all is coming out before Christmas. I am ready for my OG Droid to retire.

          • Anonymous

I went from using every Motor Droid device to a Nexus S and am happy with the Samsung. Moto definitely has them beat on the build quality, well the feel of it. Both are built Berry well bit Motor feels a bit better to the hand. Not sure why…might be because of weight and materials but I am extremely happy with my first Samsung phone.

On that note…I really hope Moto comes out with a vanilla android phone. If not I will be sporting the new Nexus.

          • Balls

i switched my droid X for a fascinate
it is MUCH lighter, and the rounded edges make it fit conformable in the hand the back does feel plasticy, but.. thats because it is plastic no suprise there, but overall i feel the phone is a solid build, but not as durable as the droid X and its metal body, but overall i enjoy it more than the X

plus the unl0ck3d boot loader is a real nice plus

    • Pete

      its all touch based device

    • http://steamcommunity.com/id/cypherx82 cypherx82

      I hope not.

  • Guest24

    Definetly coming to Verizon…..  VZWAPNlib.apk
    VZWAPNService.apk

  • Leonardo Benveniste

what is PHASEBEAM.apk?? is the Nexus Prime gonna be able to teleport me???

    • Guy

      Phonesky.apk is the market.apk

    • Anonymous

      Probably a live wallpaper.

      • Insiteful Guest

        yep

  • Anonymous

Does anyone rememper the Verizon M.A.P? They had the Droid Charge from Samsung coming to an end on 9/30/11. Assuming that the Stratosphere is replacing the Fascinate as it was reported, then this phone should be arriving no later than October, right?
    Wishful thinking, I know.

    • Dave

I’ve read (from pretty credible sources) that it will actually be released the first week of November. However, things always change.

      • Anonymous

That would be awesome if that was the case.

    • Anonymous

      lets hope!

  • Jake

Looks like we might actually get a true nexus on verizon. If so that will be my next phone.

    • Anonymous

      yeah:

      VZWAPNlib.apk
      VZWAPNService.apk

that’s a MASSIVE relief, but where the hell did this list come from and why should anyone believe it?

P.S. Looks like Google plus will have deeper integration too: PlusOne.apk

      • Anonymous

That might just be their “+1″ they’re trying to stick onto everything.

        • Anonymous

          Trying to? :p

    • Anonymous

If the build quality is good and the colors saturation, then I’ll get it. I’ll give my DroidX2 to my brother and I’ll stay with this One and my bionic :)

  • Anonymous

So this pretty much means it isn’ t coming to verizon judging by their past bloatware phones

    • Anonymous

VZWAPNlib.apk and VZWAPNService.apk indicate Verizon. Or were you just being sarcastic.

      • Anonymous

Yes it was sarcasm…I would have expected a lot more vzw…

    • Dave

I actually a system app labeled “VZWAPNlib.apk”..unless VZW stands for something else.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_ONPW5PQUCYAB67WMDKG2JC7EMU Zion

VZWAPNlib.apk, VZWAPNService.apk!!  Did you even read anything?

      • Anonymous

Sarcasm my friend…I did read everything, just surprised to only see those two vzw apk’s listed and not random stuff like the below list.
        VzWBAService.apk
        VzWBAClient.apk
        VZW_Golf.apk
        VzNav.apk
        VCast.apk
        VZW_Rhapsody.apk

  • Earleepa

Is this thing going to overheat like the galaxy s2?

        • Joseph Moreno

well come on like you seriously expect people to know? theres been no pics leaked or info about anything except rumored specs, a few videos of ICS on a Nexus S, and these files

          • Earleepa

Yes I expect you all to know. You speculate on other stuff spread rumors and everything else but when someone wants to know something from a technical standpoint that is the best you can do is I don’t know? You can unlock bootloaders whatever they are and write programs but you claim to know nothing of processors and overheating issues. Give me a break.

I love ice cream sandwiches vanilla flavor.

  • Kaufkin

Can’t be a Verizon item then. No bloatware?

  • John Skinner

Galaxy4.apk what do you make of this? some sort of samsung skin? why 4?

money says it’s a live wallpaper.

Do we think FaceLock.apk is that thing they demoed at I/O where the camera would focus on the person speaking?

    • Anonymous

Yeah, I should actually read Kellex’s commentary rather than just looking at the list and posting.

      • John

        +1 for realizing that

          +1 for being kind

          • Joseph Moreno

Seriously, do you actually expect people to know that before the device has been even physically leaked? There’s been no pictures or anything, these are just files.

          • Anonymous

In one of those files, they could give us hints

There is the ICS video from yesterday that was posted here in DL: http://www.droid-life.com/2011/09/28/nexus-s-purchased-on-ebay-gives-us-a-2-minute-ice-cream-sandwich-preview/ but Google remote wipe the person’s phone (since ICS is not ready yet).
