DROID2 Global Gingerbread 4.5.607 Update Rolling Out to All

If you own a DROID2 Global and are completely stock, you will want to cruise into Settings>About phone>System updates and grab the Gingerbread (Android 2.3.3) update for your device now.  The update was originally supposed to roll out back in June, but after Motorola realized that they needed to refine their 2.3 builds a bit, it was pulled.  With the changelog for the update returning last week though, and with a bunch of additional enhancements, we knew we were close.  “Close” just so happened to be this weekend.

Everyone receive it?  All we have left now is the DROID Pro.

Cheers Dylan, John, Brendan and Eric!

I just applied to apply the update but it failed….!

    as seen on tv

  • Anonymus

My phone says it is up to date but still runs on 2.2. I don’t understand what happened

    • wiz-k

the update got canceled for and issue

  • Smcstudio

is anyone else having issues with changing the ring tones etc? when i go to settings > sound > select ring tone, the phone crashes everytime. So basically it is constantly on vibrate, even when the ringer is set to max volume

  • Steveo

Unrooted Z4 and the update installed perfectly.  I had not messed with any system apps, etc., so perhaps that is why I had no issues.  Anyone know if Z4 will re-root the Gingerbread?

    • Jimjk1968

D3 1 click will but no way back without sbf!

  • DV

    Finally got this going…

To anyone facing similar issues, I had to turn off a sync setting (Settings – data manager – data delivery – social applications -sync over wifi -> Off). I also had to pull the battery for 30+ seconds to fully reset the device afterwards.

    Update downloading now!

  • Tonyavila82

I unrooted my phone from z4 root and I deleted some of the apps that came with my phone while I was rooted. I downloaded the gingerbread update various times and it always says the update failed. How can I fix this so I can update?? HELP PLEASE

    • Andreww9933

Im having the same issue. Several attempts to update have failed. Ive flashed back to froyo stock, and still nothing. Someone PLEASE help!

  • DV

Still unable to even download the update. I’ve tried restarting the phone several times and tried from both 3G and WiFi.

3G returns check for update unavailable, try again later.
WiFi just hangs on the checking for update message, but nothing happens.

Anyone else having issues pulling the update?

I got this update bout 2 days ago and I’ve started to notice problems. Sometimes the physical keyboard will not light up and such and such. But I just notice earlier today when someone calls me or I call them, I can’t hear them and they can’t hear me. This is irritating because my droid 2 global was working fine with phone calls before the update and I need the calls for my job. Also there’s anything thing wrong but I forgo what it was. The overheating of the phone stopped well is better than before.

    • DV

I’ve had the phone call issue happen occasionally with Froyo on my D2G.
Just usually re-call and its fine.

    • mady3820

I too have nnoticed that the keyboard doesn’t light reliably anymore, like it used to. I hope they fix it soon.

  • Jimjk1968

not sure but i helped someone out of state install leaked version 4.5.606 will she receive the official without sbf to .330? i hope i didnt get her in between a rock! she does’nt know how to sbf and i wont be able to fix it until i get there sometime to visit.

  • I downloaded the update successfully, however, when it finished downloading nothing happened. No “Install Update” window or anything. I tried rebooting it and still nothing, but i noticed that when I click “Turn off phone”, the window magically appear on the blurred background while it is being turned off! Its blurred but i can tell its the installation window. I can see it every time that I turn it off. Anyone has any idea how to get to that window?! Any help is greatly appreaciated, been waiting so long for this update!

  • Jonmvera467

I installed GB leak and phone isn’t going into developer mode!!!! Can’t SBF! Ah! Help! Any thoughts?

  • mike

I got the update as well, but i noticed that the notification light stopped working after the update.. anyone else notice this?

  • Justintwr

I have a D2G that had been rooted with z4root. I had used Titanium Backup to freeze a handful of apps (such as Blockbuster). I just hit “Settings>About phone>System updates” and it upgraded without any problems! So far everything looks great (other than the fact I need to re-root).

    • GuestMax

Sorry to necromance here, but I just got the update.  I didn’t even try to unroot, and had a bunch of frozen apps.  It just worked.
Now I am trying to figure out how to re-root.  I was using z4 prior but that doesn’t seem to work anymore, nor does Gingerbreak.  Ideas?  Wow follow up necromancy with hijacking, what a jerk I am.

..woohooo.,.I just got a $829.99 iPad2 for only $103.37 and my mom got a $1499.99 HDTV for only $251.92, they are both coming with USPS tomorrow. I would be an idiot to ever pay full retail prices at places like Walmart or Bestbuy. I sold a 37″ HDTV to my boss for $600 that I only paid $78.24 for. I use CentHub.cōm

  • XHBvi3tbOix

is it me or is there no crt screen animation when the screen turns off like in the atrix

  • MachDroid

I just received the OTA update(4.5.607.en.US) for my Droid 2 Global phone 3 hours ago, so far everything works so fine and fast.  Winds of changes…

    FINALLY!!!!!! Downloading now…

Got the update two days ago. I cant notice a difference other than the new color scheme. Battery life still horrible

    • David Brown

I’m running the leaked GB with root from a couple weeks ago, and it at least doubled my battery life.

      • assman

did you switch off your global setting?

        • Skunk13

Ditto turn off your global radio!

  • Will I be able to pull this if I installed the leaked version from 2 weeks ago ( 4.5.606 )?  I would think so since this is a newer build but, I can’t test it until I get home from the office.

    • Ekolson

      I’m wondering the same thing.

  • DV

Check for update was not available at this time.
    Try again later.

    • Restart your phone and try again. Got my update last week

  • Raven

Please, anyone who has rooted their D2G with z4root and then later unrooted to receive this update post their experiences.  I have seen mixed reviews on the “soak test”.

    • I unrooted with z4root and tried to apply the update but it failed….

      • GingerbreadWaiter

Same here !! keep failing… What to do ? Anyone.. Please

        • Saatermaterpate

i was rooted with z4, but needed to sbf back to 2.4.330 to get it to update

          • Raven

Where did you get your .sbf file?

          • Planterspeanuts

            google is your friend

    • Justintwr

I rooted my D2G with z4root and I was just able to apply this update without any problems (found so far).

    • David

I rooted with z4root. I unrooted and first attempt at update failed. Will try deleting Superuser, z4root and try again.

      • David

I ended up going back to SBF 2.4.29 and then applying both the 2.4.330 and the current update. First time to SBF, so once I figured out the drivers it was all good from there.

  • David E. Smith

The soak test version was 4.5.601. Anyone know whether there are any meaningful changes between the two?

    • Anonymous

Minor note: the soak test version was 4.5.607. The final release is the same build.

      • David E. Smith

I got my Droids mixed up – 4.5.601 was the soak for the D2, not the D2G. I keep forgetting they’re two separate phones. (I have a D2, not a D2G, so my numbers were correct but my reading comprehension is a bit more suspect.)

More like “all we have left now” to screw up “is the Droid Pro.” 2.3.3? Really? Why not 2.3.4 like on the D3?

    • Txbeaner

I wondered the same thing about my DX2…we got 2.3.3 as well & its dual core just like the D3

    • Anonymous

Please keep in mind this update was supposed to be released in June and rather than increase the risk of new bugs introduced by bumping up the version they probably decided it would be best to fix bugs that already existed.

      • digsoreos

That’s great. But from the DX Motorola forum, few users have been able to figure out which bugs the second GB update fixed. It must have been something inconsequential. Maybe they got the new vibrate icon that looks like Elvis with lambchop sideburns to replace the sizzling bacon one? 😉

  • Seangtzr

    • Topher

you may have GB now, but…

  • MC

What is with this provisioning error?  I have a Droid2Global through work and Gingerbread broke my ActiveSync.  I notified IT about the problem in case they need to change something on the Exchange server.  Now to wait the next 500 years for them to do that.

    • Guest

I love stupid users! Maybe you should have checked with your IT department before updating a “COMPANY” work phone and expecting them to jump to the rescue when it breaks things.

Seriously where is the Droid Pro’s update already??

  • Adam Howland

I have a D2G for my work phone and the update is downloading now.

  • What about the R2D2? {{-_-}}

    • Bigdav1178

I’ve contacted Moto about it… They have no plans for updating currently. Personally, I wouldn’t bet on ever seeing it get updated – I get the feeling it will be like some other phones that have been supposed to be updated at some point, only to never see it.

Apparently, when buy a Moto special edition phone, you’re paying extra for extra poor support. Their response pi$$ed me off enough, that I doubt I’ll buy another of their phones.

      • Garbage. Guess it’s root for me. {{-_-}}

      • Nicking Ninaj

I’m with you. Only buying stock google phones now, if I can help it, and I will never buy another Moto phone. I’m going to write a nice long complaint.

      • Anonymous

Actually, Moto has confirmed via several avenues that they will be updating the R2D2. I received confirmation both over the telephone and in an email. Unfortunately, they could not give me even a ballpark estimate of when this would occur.

    • digsoreos

Don’t you know? R2D2 fell into the Dagobahn swamp never to be seen or heard from again.

      • Txbeaner

  • What about the R2D2? {{-_-}}

  • yea…has there been any hints on when it’s coming to the droid pro? if at all…

  • I did both this update and the droid x update on friday… old news
