This Week In The Life Of DROID: 9/30/2011

by: | posted 09.30.11 | News

Well if everyone has been screaming for the Ice Cream, then scream no longer. There is a great video making the rounds of a person who states they purchased a Nexus S off eBay and that when turned on, he wasn’t looking at regular Gingerbread. Instead he was feasting his eyes upon Ice Cream Sandwich and decided to make a 2-minute video. I won’t go into detail on how lucky we think this person is, but it’s almost like the story where each time Apple is about to release a new i*hone, they somehow lose it at a bar in Silicon Valley.

Hope everyone has a lovely weekend. Anyone here attending the Android BBQ in Texas? Be safe!

Nexus Prime, DROID HD, and HTC Vigor All Start to Appear in Cellebrite Systems

by: | posted 09.30.11 | Breaking, News

Talk about the type of info we love to see on a late Friday afternoon.  Loaded (as of this week) into Cellebrite systems, we have three devices that have been on the minds of all Android enthusiasts over the last few weeks:  Nexus Prime (Galaxy Nexus?), DROID HD (RAZR?), and the HTC Vigor (Rezound?). While no other details ever accompany Cellebrite listings, we do at least get further confirmation that all of these phones exist along with their model numbers.  The Prime as we all know is SCH-I515 and the DROID HD is XT912.  The Vigor for some reason is listed under its FCC number as PH98100, but should hit stores as the ADR6425.

Droid Life Wallpaper Pack Update to Included Yellow AL Versions

by: | posted 09.30.11 | Apps, News

Our buddy @davekover updated the Droid Life wallpaper pack this morning to include a new set of yellow versions in support of our brother site, Android Life.  Just like the original set of pink walls, these aren’t riddled with DL logos and are instead, tastefully done.  The app is still free, as it always will be, in the market.

QQLauncher Pro Might Be the Next Big Launcher on the Block

by: | posted 09.30.11 | Apps, News

Our server guy of all people, just turned us on to this semi-new launcher called QQLauncher that he is claiming to be the “best ever.”  While we aren’t ready to go that far just yet, we are willing to give it a huge thumbs up after just a few minutes with it.

As you can see from the custom lock screen, these guys certainly know how to do some customizations that will grab our attention.  The app drawer is really polished, there are a handful of themes already available, screen transitions, quick folder creation, and more.

It still needs the ability to use custom icons and such, but for a free app that has only been out about a month, it’s off to a great start.

Unannounced Amazon 10.1″ Tablet Coming Right In Time For The Holidays?

by: | posted 09.30.11 | News

New sources are back to stating that Amazon still has plans for releasing a 10.1″ tablet near the end of the year, just in time for the holiday shopping season. Surfing on the hype of their recent announcement, the Kindle Fire, Amazon is said to have Taiwan-based Foxconn Electronics pump out the reported tablets according to DigiTimes.

A 10.1″ model would be extremely welcomed, and with the 7″ Kindle Fire at a very pleasing price of just $199, we can’t imagine the 10.1″ going for that much more. Everyone might want to hold off on pre-ordering the new Kindle Fire if you had been hoping for something a bit bigger.

“Official” DROID Bionic Bug List: Fix Coming in November, Incapable of 8-device Hotspot, 4G/3G Issues and More

by: | posted 09.30.11 | News

One of our readers contacted Verizon support to get some help with a couple of issues that his DROID Bionic was experiencing and received a massive bug list in return.  The actual list is longer than the one we posted below, but we pulled out all of the most important stuff.  There are some interesting things in here that we figured everyone should take a look at.

First, they are aware of the 4G/3G issues and have planned a fix that will go live some time in November (yes, an entire month from now).  They also plan to address the high pitch headset issue, MMS bugs, Lapdock stuff and a variety of other things.

Also included in this list though, were some not-so-positive notes like the fact that they admit to not allowing non-Verizon or non-Motorola chargers and USB cables to work.  They also admit that the phone can’t support 8 devices simultaneously while in hotspot, something they were selling initially.

It’s a big list, so we broke it down into our top 10 and then put together another pretty important list afterwards.  Have fun!
