DROID Charge CM7 Also Boots in Early Alpha Stage

by: | posted 08.29.11 | Charge, News, Root

It’s still a work in progress, but to the DROID Charge owners in the building, you will be pleased to know that CyanogenMod 7 is inching closer to your phone.  A team is in place and has booted it, but we are still a ways from it being ready for public consumption.  In fact at this point, they are only listing the things that are working since that list is much shorter than the non-working one.  This is still a good sign though.  As this device gets closer to a more stable build, you will be the first to know.

CyanogenMod Boots Up on HP TouchPad in Alpha Stage

Now this is the progress I’m sure that many of you were hoping to see in such a short amount of time on the HP TouchPad after the firesale helped many of you land one for as little as $99.  We were actually starting to wonder if it would even be possible to get Android booted up on this tablet – thanks to the CyanogenMod team, we now know that there is a damn good chance.

As you can see in the video above, we still have a long way to go before this is ready to be booted up on anyone’s device.  That’s not the point of this though.  The CM team needs more devices in order to give this thing a ton of attention and has released this as nothing more than a publicity tool to draw more attention to their work on it, something we are happy to help out with.

In a letter to the internet, they break down the progress and future plans for the TouchPad.

Reader-Created HTC Vigor Wallpapers Invoke the Incredible HD

On Friday afternoon, we unveiled the first pictures of the HTC Vigor, a device that is rumored to be replacing the Thunderbolt as Verizon’s next big 4G LTE device to follow the DROID Bionic.  The look of the phone reminded many of us of the Incredible and Incredible 2 which made us wonder if Big Red had last minutes plans to make this device the oft-rumored Incredible HD?  Whether that happens or not, we won’t know until we get closer to October, but for now, we can dream of such happenings through a couple of wallpaper renders that a reader threw together for us this weekend.  Both are 1600×1200, so they’ll fit nicely on most desktops.

How about a white version?  If it looked like this, you could sign me up today.

“Official” DROID Bionic Twitter Says September 8th is the Day

by: | posted 08.28.11 | News, Rumors

Our Twitter timeline blew up last night around 10PM Pacific when the “official” DROID Bionic account woke up and starting spamming off messages about the device’s impending release.  We had heard September 8 on a few separate occasions without any confirmation from either Motorola or Verizon, other than that it would be here next month.  Well, it looks like they were leaving it up to their rumored-to-be “official” Twitter account to break that news for us on a random Saturday night…yeah, anyone see anything wrong with that?

We had been holding off from posting about this, hoping that someone at Moto or Big Red would find this announcement to be pre-mature and have it deleted, only that never happened.  So either both companies have decided to announce the most hyped Verizon device in history over Twitter on a Saturday night or it’s 100% fake.  We’re leaning towards the latter, still.  You will probably agree with us too, once you take a look at some of this account’s other tweets that have way too many grammatical errors for it to be considered legitimate.

DROID Bionic Accessory Lineup Will Include Webtop Adapter for Quick, Inexpensive, On the Go Presenting and Sharing

by: | posted 08.27.11 | Accessories, News

It’s pretty well known that the lapdock accessory for the Motorola Atix wasn’t a success due to an insanely high price tag and mostly buggy software.  In fact, Motorola CEO Sanjay Jha in a Q2 earnings call, commented on adjustments to be made going forward with webtop docking accessories now that they better understand their customers.  The big question remained though, what would their approach be for the DROID Bionic?

We still are not 100% sure what the pricing scheme will be, but we are seeing a new webtop accessory called the Webtop Adapter that will be introduced as a less expensive (“affordable”) option for those that are “curious” about the service.  To use it, it’s as simple as plugging the adapter into the Bionic’s HDMI and micro USB port, and then running an HDMI cable from it to a TV or monitor.  If you want to charge the device while webtoppin’, there is also a slot for a charger.   Not bad, right?

More details after the jump.

Pantech Breakout is Verizon’s Mid-range 4G LTE Phone, Gets Compared to Others

by: | posted 08.27.11 | News

If you were looking for an inexpensive 4G LTE device from Verizon, the Pantech Breakout will likely be one of your best options.  While we don’t have pricing, this device is missing from MAP lists and other major VZW documentation, leading us to believe that its their LTE stepchild.  Its specs aren’t awful by any means, but with the DROID Bionc and HTC Vigor (first pics) just around the corner, you can bet that this phone will be priced to sell.

It has a 4″ screen, runs Gingerbread (something no other LTE device on Verizon can say), front and rear cameras, Swype, Pantech’s custom UI, 1GHz single-core processor, and 512MB of RAM.  It matches up closely to the LG Revolution – hopefully the price does too.

DROID Bionic Store Page Pops Up as Under Construction, Includes Official Pictures

by: | posted 08.27.11 | News

I’d say we now know where those “press” shots that showed off the thickness of the DROID Bionic came from, wouldn’t you?  The Motorola store page for the device to be exact.  With it just weeks from a release, it looks like Moto has started working on what we are guessing is the old CES Bionic’s page since the model number still shows as XT865.  They did toss in a bunch of shiny new pictures of the XT875 version of the device though, but not much else is available.  Thankfully, you already know all there is to know about the Bionic, especially after we gave you the full spec list in comparison to some of its competitors, this morning.

Gallery after the break in case they pull it.
