Robotek – A Game About The Machine’s Inevitable World Takeover

by: | posted 08.30.11 | Apps, Games, News

We knew it was going to happen. We would create machines too smart for our own good. They have realized the only way to protect us, is to destroy us. Sound familiar? Maybe that is what causes the initial attraction to the game. But then you see the price tag. Free? Must be riddled with advertisements. Wait, no ads? This seems too good to be true.

Well believe it, folks. A game that has superb graphics, great gameplay, and even a multi-player function. When you first boot up the game, it takes you through a great tutorial, so as not to leave you in the dust as far as the point of the game, and controls. Basically, it’s a robot battle arena, and you spin a wheel to determine what type of moves you will make against your opponent. Once you get the hang of it, it is actually quite addictive.

Changelog for DROID2 Global Gingerbread Update has Returned

by: | posted 08.30.11 | News

The Gingerbread update for the DROID2 Global has finally returned after a 3 month bug fixing hiatus.  We reported over the weekend that a soak test for the update was set to begin some time in early September and are now seeing the changelog for it reappear.  Nothing has changed at least on paper, but you can bet that all of the fixes that were included in the latest DROIDX update were patched into this.

So that puts 2.3 on the DX, D2 (soak test began last night), D2 Global, DX2, and DROID3.  All we have left now from Motorola is the Pro.  Oh, no word on the Incredible update at this time – it’s still delayed to our knowledge.

Blur version after the update is 4.5.607.

Madden 2012 Also Available on Android Today

by: | posted 08.30.11 | Apps, Games, News

Anyone headed to a store this morning to pick up Madden 2012?  Or have some of you already gone 2-3 hours deep into your first franchise season?  Or did some of you have to work today? (I say that because this is like a holiday for gamers)  If for whatever reason you had to and are not able to plant yourself firmly on a couch, you may want to grab the Android version of the game that was also released and dive into a season from your desk.  It will run you almost $8, but that could be well worth the time spent discovering who will be this year’s unstoppable force.

DROID Bionic Weptop Accessories Start to Arrive at Verizon Stores

by: | posted 08.30.11 | Accessories, News

Over the weekend, we posted up a ton of info about the line of webtop accessories for the DROID Bionic that are expected to be available at launch including the brand new Webtop Adapter.  Those same accessories are now starting to arrive in stores which is a good sign that we are on schedule for that September 8 release.  We are a little concerned still about pricing though, and were hoping to see some sticker prices on these.  The LapDock for the Atrix was horribly priced and to our knowledge, did not sell well.  Could Moto possibly go down that same sky-high pricing road again?

Oh, and we heard a couple of rumors that a pre-order could potentially start on Thursday (9/1), but are looking for confirmation on that.  Gettin’ closer.

Onavo Lite Released to the Android Market, Take Control of Your Mobile Data

by: | posted 08.30.11 | Apps, News

If you upgraded to a smartphone some time after July 7 and are stuck with a tiered data plan, Onavo is an app that should help you better understand and control that specified amount of data that you have each month.  It’s essentially a data monitoring tool that lets you know when an app is using an abnormal amount of data.  We have been using the beta for quite some time now and have found it to be a useful enough app to not uninstall it.

The current version that is available is free, but we have this feeling that a paid edition with a number of additional features will be available in the near future.

Samsung Nexus/DROID Prime Cruises Through Bluetooth SIG with a CDMA Radio

by: | posted 08.29.11 | News

A Samsung device by the model number SCH-i515 found its way through Bluetooth SIG today, which just so happens to be the same model number rumored to be the DROID/Nexus Prime.  In the posting, we can see that the phone runs on CDMA networks and is also headed to North America.  One could easily assume then that we’ll see this device on Verizon, especially with the “SCH” in the model number which seems to be the three letter combo reserved specifically for Samsung devices on our favorite red carrier. (Charge is SCH-i510)

Who knows if it’s coming or not as a DROID or a Nexus device.  Our sources say they aren’t expecting this to be “DROID” branded, but at this point, it’s anyone’s guess.

Monday Poll: Must Have Android Apps Of The Last Month Are?

by: | posted 08.29.11 | Polls

It has been a month or so since we last asked you what your current app obsessions were.  Since that time, we have seen a number of impressive apps, like A.I. Type keyboard (that I personally can’t get enough of), HD Widgets for tablets, return of ESPN’s fantasy football app, new Swype, SimplePLAY’s song swiping, and so many more.  Anything in particular though, that you just can’t seem to get enough of?  Discover an older app that you wish you had known about from the beginning?  Maybe an app that we haven’t covered at all?  Let us know!
