DroidDoes.com Bionic Page Goes Live, @DroidLanding Prepares Itself for New Hunt

by: | posted 08.31.11 | News

The DroidDoes.com micro-site for all things DROID has been updated as of late last night with a Bionic page that asks for 4 codes to be entered from 4 different tech blogs.  There is also a countdown that points to tomorrow at 12PM.  We are not sure if that means the phone will be announced or if a new @DroidLanding scavenger hunt will begin.  Yep, that Twitter account has also gone live as of just a few minutes ago.

And no, we were not included in this one, but it’s all good.  Someone was kind enough to send us that Bionic teaser video, remember?

Update:  We’ve posted the scavenger hunt details here.

Stay tuned…

Cheers Jeff, Nick and everyone who sent this in!

Nexus Prime GT-I9250 Support Page Found on Samsung Site

by: | posted 08.30.11 | News

What you have in front of you, is a support page for the Samsung GT-I9250 which has been rumored for weeks to be the Nexus Prime.   Confused after reading that?  Oh, because the rumored “DROID Prime” is listed all over the place now as being SCH-i515?  Yeah, this isn’t going to be easy to explain, but we’ll try.

Our opinion still basically reflects what we said throughout a variety of posts yesterday.  The device that is headed to Verizon may not actually be a Nexus, but still could be the first stock Android 4.0 device on the planet.  Just like Verizon did with the XOOM (and 3.0) and original DROID (and 2.0), they could easily release this device and not make it a Nexus which is why you are seeing the Big Red-esque SCH-i515 model number.

This GT-I9250, which matches up much more closely to say the Nexus S as far as model number goes than the Verizon version, is more than likely the next Nexus.  That make sense?

Now, that’s all speculation on my part, but the theory at least matches up to history.  The good news is, that even if Verizon releases a non-Nexus version, there is a chance it could be completely unlocked, just like the XOOM was/is.

Thoughts?

Tumblr Receives a Much Needed Android Overhaul – New UI, Multi-Blog Support and More

by: | posted 08.30.11 | Apps, News

Any Tumblr users in the building?  As a user of the service, I’m actually excited to see that their team has released a major update to version 2.0.  The previous version was not the most fluid of apps and also had a variety of annoying bugs that seemed to get ignored.  In this latest build, users will enjoy a redesigned UI along with the ability to manage multiple blogs, messages and an address book all without leaving the app.

  • New interface: A total redesign centered around Android’s hardware and software.
  • Manage multiple blogs: It’s now a simple swipe to access your different blogs and manage your drafts, queue and followers on-the-go.
  • Create a post:  We’ve highlighted posting to Tumblr so you can share text, images, links, chats, quotes and videos whenever you want.
  • Messages: View and reply to messages for each of your blogs.
  • Address book: Find people to follow from your phone’s address book.
  • New users: Sign up right from the app.
  • Bonus: For quick sharing, you can post anything from your home screen via the Tumblr widget.

Samsung DROID Prime Logo [Unofficial]

by: | posted 08.30.11 | News

When the Samsung Nexus Prime started to receive a lot of coverage around these parts, one of our readers decided to create an awesome logo that could be used during future stories.  Since that phone is now being rumored as the DROID Prime, he went back to the drawing board and created this little black and red Optimus for your viewing pleasure.

We still are not ready to jump on the idea that this SCH-i515 Samsung device will be DROID branded, but are definitely under the impression that it will still make its way to Verizon in the very near future in some form.  Especially since it could be the first device to run Ice Cream Sandwich.  Rumors suggest an October release; we would gladly accept that, however, November is a much more likely time frame.

Cheers again Nate!

Tuesday Poll: Interested in DROID Bionic Webtop Accessories?

by: | posted 08.30.11 | Polls

When the Atrix 4G was introduced at CES in January, one of the major selling points was its built-in webtop docking capabilities.  The idea that your phone could essentially turn into and power a laptop, was pretty intriguing.  The pricing on the other hand, not so much.  With the release of the DROID Bionic, Motorola has introduced similar webtop accessories but, also has plans to throw in a new “Webtop Adapter” that is targeted at customers who want to experience webtop on the cheap.

We are just wondering if anyone is interested in this type of accessory at all?  Current signs point to the full LapDock as being priced at $299 with the HD Station and Adapter falling in somewhere below that.  You definitely have options – are you looking to jump on any?

Firefox for Tablets Gets a Brief Preview

by: | posted 08.30.11 | Apps, News

I. Want. This. Now.  Yes Firefox, you have impressed me enough in a single preview post of your tablet-specific browser that I feel like I can no longer live without it and I don’t even have it yet.

In a blog post by one of Firefox Mobile’s developers, we get a look at the UI decisions that have been made for their tablet browser, along with some of the goodies that have carried over from the phone version.  The Awesomebar is included, a new tablet theme, and top/side tabs depending on which way you are holding your tablet.  This looks impressive.  And at this point, anything is better than the stock, crashmaster Honeycomb browser, right?
