New Version of Swype Includes Gestures and Quick Twitter, Facebook and Google Maps Launching – Available Now To Nexus S 4G

YouTube Preview Image

If things seem to be a little quiet on the Swype front these days, it is probably because they have been working extra hard behind the scenes with carriers and phone manufacturers to introduce a handful of new features.  Sprint Nexus S 4G owners have the opportunity to download a new version (3.25.91) today, before the general public.  The Swype team has added in gestures to make for easy copy, cut, and selecting, as well as a way to quickly launch some of your favorite apps like Twitter, Facebook and Google Maps.

The plan is to roll this out to NS4G owners first (download here) and then make it available to everyone in their beta program “soon.”

What are your current thoughts on Swype?  Was certainly one of the top keyboards of 2010, but now we have so many incredible options to choose from like Swiftkey, FlexT9 and A.I.Type.

Just DL’d it to my NS4G and it seems to be much better than it was in the past.  The Sprint theme for the keyboard is pretty cool too.  Ill have to give it a proper go.

Swype makes you swype in the whole word, which is a hassle for longer words. I like the predictive keyboards that guess your word after just a couple of characters. Swiftkey even does a good job of predicting your next word, though Swiftkey uses too much memory for my poor old Droid.

The dictionary has gotten worse… and worse… and worse… then a little better… then worse… it’s seriously gone from miraculous to just BARELY better than anything else I’ve tried.

i used to love swype, but the latest version SUCKS. it is so bad that i reverted to using the stock android keyboard…

I’m still a huge swype fan, I just wish they’d fix the Honeycomb issue so I can get it back on my Xoom.

Swype all the way for sure.  I’ve tried the others for a couple days at a time each, and always end up going back to Swype.  The one-handed action can’t be beat.  Now if it would just stop entering “Utah” everytime I try to type “yeah”…

  • WaltAssault

I type with one hand unless I’m at my desk so Swyp-ing has proved the fastest way for me type on my X. Did I hear that this works on the DX?

  • Firelight

Flext T9 all the way. Except for constantly putting “pour” for “our” it works pretty darned well. I can slide & type and get good predictability most of the the time … and it’s just slick & fast. No delays or hiccups whatsoever. I got it as the Amazon FAtD and went to the Google Market and bought there to support them.

  • MJ

Personally I like the standard HTC Trace keyboard.

    good

    Works on droid x

If any of these could predict tonight winning lotto numbers, that would be useful,  if not, they are all horrible

I use SlideIT which is available for all devices and all providers. It is on the Android Market – no hacks required! And the best – they recently added skins!

I switch back and forth between FlexT9 and Swiftkey. Thank you Amazon! I don’t even install swype anymore.

Just tried to install this on my TBolt. Installed, registered, generated license …Swype automatically uninstalled itself…

    • Brian Resnik

Really? That’s pretty strange. Are you sure you selected it by long-pressing a text field and choosing “input method?”

i cant live without swype i literally switched roms because it wasnt working right. i can pretty much swype without looking (which is good for driving)

does that download work for everybody or what?

  • http://profiles.google.com/dannymgme Daniel Garcia

I’ve tried the rest and always go back to the best, Swype.

I quite like A.I.Type myself. It’s nice to be able to have a fully customizable keyboard that has some pretty good predictive and auto-correct capabilities to boot.

  • http://twitter.com/NateBognar Nate Bognar

Swype was fun, but I didn’t find it that much faster than normal typing. Swiftkey’s prediction is what converted me.

    • Tarsis Brito

i do agree nothing its better than swiftkey omg it learns how you type

@ those of you who prefer swiftkey or flex t9:
Do you guys type one handed or two handed most of the? I personally type one handed the vast majority of the time and I find swype to be the best very in that scenario.

      • Anonymous

I mostly use my thumb while holding the phone. And I found flex t9 to out perform swype in that regard and I just liked the feel of it.

I really like the way they’ve implemented shortcuts, seems very intuitive, hopefully we’ll have a working apk for other phones soon.

  • TheAndroid1

    Google should buy swype.

“If things seem to be a little quiet on the Swype front these days” … it’s because of better keyboards like fore example Swiftkey X and Flex T9.

    Edit: Also..Yay first

    • John

ya i always end up back on Flex T9
