MotoDev Site Outs Official DROID Bionic Specs: OMAP4, RAM and Screen Size All Confirmed?

We started hearing murmurs of the DROID Bionic popping up over at the MotoDev site yesterday as its former self, but ran into a bunch of “Access Denied” pages while snooping.  Thankfully, the folks at MDW were able to give us a gateway into the site, so that we could see for ourselves and then share with all of you.

Before we start talking about what we are seeing, we’ll quickly shoot down the comments that are surely going to arise regarding the model number.  Yes, we realize that the model number that is showing up says XT865 which is the old Bionic.  Once you see the specs though, you’ll quickly realize that the model number is wrong and that you should ignore it.

Update:  Since we’ve seen enough emails about it, we thought we’d address it even further.  Yes, we realize that the old model number of XT865 is listed.  We totally get that.  What you have to realize though, is the specs that are listed, are for the NEW Bionic.  The old version was a Tegra 2 with just 512MB of RAM.  The new build of XT875 is an OMAP with 1GB of RAM.  The Moto folks just haven’t flipped the switch on the new model number yet, but have on the specs.

Update 2:  It looks like Moto pulled the specs, which is not surprising.  And now you know why our “click here” link is an image taken from the site that will be available forever.

So, what do we have?

  • 1GHz OMAP4430 dual-core processor
  • 1GB RAM
  • 4.3″ qHD screen
  • 8MP rear camera (shoots 1080p video)
  • VGA front camera (told you that 2MP was a bad rumor)
  • HDMI 1.4
  • Android 2.3.4
  • Webtop capabilities
  • 4G LTE

No real big surprises, assuming these stand at release.  Still a beast though.

To see the full list of specs and how it stands up to the DROID3 and Photon 4G, click here.

More at the MotoDev site.

Cheers Craig and Clint!

Why is it only the OMAP 4430?  Isn’t the 4460 available?  Since the Bionic has taken this long it should include an upgraded processor when compared to the Droid 3…..I was going to purchase the Bionic full retail…now that I see that it included only the 4430 I will stick with my Droid X.

    • Djaisahn

I don’t know something isn’t right here. The model number for the specs is for the old bionic and now they pulled the bionic off the comparison page. This may not be the actual specs for the device. Probably

    • Anonymous

Why does it have to be ….only….the 4430? The 4430 is nothing to sneeze at.

  • Greg

I don’t know if I can lock myself into this phone for 20 months knowing that shortly after (weeks to a couple months something much better will be out.) I was waiting and waiting for the bionic but I feel that it has missed its chance. It was made to be released months ago and even after revamps the upgrades don’t give me enough WOW factor to keep me satisfied for the next 2 years. Yes I understand that there will always be something better if you wait but this seems to have missed the timeframe it should have been here in. If this phone is not unlockable it would be a total fail for me. My OG has kept me happy only because of it being unlocked and able to update at will. Its to the point where I need to upgrade but this might not be it anymore.

    • angelface

why people call moto droid OG ?

      • Al Heasley

For like “original gangster ” at least that’s what I think its for….. Who knows could be “old geezer ” droid……. Lol. J/k guys. I love my “original gangster droid” or whatever your “og” might be……

  • J53113

The bionic has been taken off of the page….. interesting huh……

    • http://twitter.com/Scotty_Braun Scotty Braun

its because this thing is wrong, that info is old.. that was the original bionic model number.. the new bionic is XT875

  • me

heres the thing if your on unlimited get the sg2 on a 2 year contact then 1 year from now Verizon says no more upgrades to 4g your gonna lose your unlim for yesterdays technology yea bionic is late but its still a moto and my d2 is awesome can’t wait to get my hands on bionic.I hope nobody gets this phone so it drives the price down for me…..just saying

    • Anonymous

What if the sgs2 is lte? Rumors say it will so your point is moot since nobody knows what verizon will do.

  • droidlvr

I just can’t wait for the Bionic, yall jelly.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1163143462 Matt Sikon

If Moto hadn’t screamed the specs from the rafters of CES maybe we wouldn’t have so many other options coming out right after Bionic to choose from. And people may still think that this is the greatest phone in the world, at least for the standard six months until a new one comes out. But now it won’t even be six weeks until a new phone makes this look absolutely bland.

    • Anonymous

every phone is the greatest for 6 months (i’d say 3).

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1163143462 Matt Sikon

My company told me today that they have several open upgrades available if I wanted to check the Bionic out. I think I will and then just give it to a co-worker when the SgS2 comes out.

  • Anonymous

lulz they removed it off the motodev site.

  • Lfkiter

First everyone was saying this was going to be “the” phone to get, now alot of people are whining about it having ok specs….GET OVER IT!!  you use a phone for a year or two then upgrade to whatever is out at the time..it’s not like you are stuck with this device forever…fuckin go smoke a bowl..phone will look much better

  • http://twitter.com/iiAmColour Sakina Solomon

But seriously those who get OH, SO upset with the date and specs surrounding this phone, it is
on them! The date was never concrete from the get go, nevermind the fact that the specs reflect it will be the best phone out upon release (atleast on verizon anyway). Naturally there will always be something up and coming. You dont want the phone, fine and dandy, your choice, but nobody cares to hear about it
on EVERY bionic post, some of us, myself included, still see the phone as an option, so the
information is welcomed. DAMN!!! *drops mic*

    • Al Heasley

I liked your comment because of the visualization at the end *drops mic* nice, Im Going to have to use that……

  • Anonymous

And Moto pulled it off Motodev, oops.

  • dr154

If thats the Droid Bionic on MotoDev site with MODEL #MOTXT865 and Verizon MAP has MODEL #MOTXT875, which is it?  How two different Models for the same devices?

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1163143462 Matt Sikon

Read the description above it explains it.

  • Anonymous

Super disappointed it won’t do H.264 like the Droid 3 and the Photon.

  • http://twitter.com/Scotty_Braun Scotty Braun

*Wait a Minute… XT865 is the old model number!    Isn’t the new Bionic XT875?   Somethings Fishy here!!!

  • Anonymous

    PENTILE….nuff said!

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Dennis-Sullivan/707444702 Dennis Sullivan

I really was expecting a surprise to justify the delays,  but it’s the same specs that have been unconfirmed for months.  It is a nice phone and all,  but maybe ill wait and see what is released a little after.

  • http://www.facebook.com/mobrienjr Michael OBrien

seems to be the same as the phonton, different processor, and doesnt have dual-led on camera…either way, if this truly does come out in September, I WILL BE GETTING IT

  • Anonymous

1ghz processor? Really? Why didn’t they over clock it a bit to 1.2 or 1.5? Considering the Vigor is about to rape this phone on every level 1ghz is the last thing I expected

    • http://profiles.google.com/statsprofessor Jakub Palka

My crappy 1ghz already rapes 1.8ghz Vigors all day.

      You won’t even get that.

      • Anonymous

i was surprised. now that I’ve seen it’s not the right serial number I’m skeptical

  • jimbob

    *yawn*

  • http://www.facebook.com/japultra Jason Nguyen

So they delayed the phone to make it better and the specs are still not any better than some phones which are already out? The only thing different about the Bionic is that it’s 4G. All its other specs are “been there, done that” by other phones already. This is really disappointing.

  • Lakerzz

This is definitley the DROID I’m looking for. I’m just hoping Kellex’s source was right about no “ghosting” effects on the screen. *CROSSES FINGERS*

  • Mario Lo

    Hey! Gbread!! +1

  • Anonymous

I’m officially through with Moto. Next phone will be a Samsung.

  • Kww3

So, what happen to the Tegra 2 CPU for the bionic?  Obviously I missed something somewhere.

  • Walter White

Hahahaha….wow, all the hype for this? Dead on Arrival…..Dead on Arrival.

I am only commenting to let you know what a excellent encounter our girl undergone using your site. She picked up numerous issues, which included what it is like to have a marvelous teaching mood to get folks without difficulty understand a number of very confusing issues. You truly exceeded visitors’ expectations. Thank you for giving the beneficial, safe, explanatory as well as fun tips on this topic to Ethel.

  • ModernSlumLord

Bionic…. live up to the name. Why soooooo secretive. ? Waited loyally. And patiently. I stalked you every day since I heard of you.!!!! You have nothing to hide. !!!! Or cover up. You have a pair of tits and a vagina like every other broad!!!!! You filthly lying whooooore! Your full of lies and misleading. The tits they sag as much as your vagines like sleeve of wizard!!!! Thought you were different thought you were special , thought you at least was GaGa packing a hidden penius with the sagging tits and wizzard sleeve but you dont… way to go. You.. you skank..and you smell of bumble bee canned tuna to top it off. Eff you!

    • Al Heasley

      So your getting one then?

  • muscularbanana

    Not a 4.5″ screen = FAIL
Not a faster processor = FAIL
    Pentile display = FAIL
    Motoblur = FAIL

This is merrily incrementally superior to my blunderbolt. I think I’ll wait for the vigor or better. Insurance does last forever! *runs to rom machine*

  • Martelus

I hope the prime an vigor live up to their names. Sgs2? Just stop. Its a cool phone but it wont be lte. Unless they revamp the phone to fit in the lte antenna or if they get the 2nd Gen lte antennas due next year. So just stop it. It will be an awesome 3g phone. Talk prime and vigor. Still bionic a nice powerhouse 4g phone. Certainly better than anything Verizon is offering right now

  • http://www.facebook.com/skrewee Lewis McGeorge

I’m so tired of all of these shenanigans that we keep on getting fed?! Just give us the REAL specs!!! This isn’t the new version it still has the old XT865… If it were the new Bionic it would say XT875 and it would still be there right?

  • B Diggs82

There is no guarantee the sgsII will be on Verizon or be 4G and the vigor is just a rumor if your gonna wait for a rumored phone by the time it comes out there will be a rumor of octo-core running 3.5 ghz on 5G network with a physical keyboard and its still the rhinestone phone out. There will always be a better phone on “horizon ” as everyone says, that’s all. This will be the best phone on the day of its release and that’s all you can ask for

    • angelface

could not agree more BIONIC HERE I COME :)

  • http://twitter.com/binglut9 Brian

I don’t understand what everyone is crying about this phone is a beast dual core 1gb ram ddr2, what did people expect quad core? 5g? Free suckies? I’m confused this phone is the best phone coming out for verizon I still don’t think we will see the gs2 until at least October and that is the only other contende. The vigor most likely a tablet…and if not who wants to use sense its way to obtrusuve and they keep adding to it…they need to slim sense down

    • Lakerzz

Ah crap!! No suckies??!! Oh well…I guess I’ll get it anyways. :P

  • droidlvr

Behold the Bionic, you all know your gonna get it.

  • Newskool

These specs sure seemed beastly when we started awaiting it’s release back in 2010.

  • Rp780

I waited for this? Come on Motorola!!!

  • http://twitter.com/binglut9 Brian

With all these leaks I’m thinking this thing is dropping sooner

  • Hmm

While a locked bootloader will be most unwelcome (as is the VGA front camera) the fact remains that the Bionic will be the best LTE phone available not only in terms of specs but also in terms of quality of engineering and components

One problem… how does a 4″ screen and a 4.3″ screen both with the same qHD resolution share the same dpi rating (240)????

    • Stelv81

It means that the screen looks better on the D3 compared to the Bionic and X2

  • Mbarcio39

This is isn’t the latest version because the serial number is the XT865, which is the old Bionic, not the new one which is XT875

    • Anonymous

Good point!!! So is this irrelevant?

      • Mbarcio39

hopefully this is just old specs, and the real bionic is as groundbreaking as they say it is… here is to hoping lol

        • Anonymous

.these are the specs. They just didn’t change the model number.

Its a D3 with some more ram and a little bigger screen..**sigh**

  • DJW

If the Samsung Galaxy S II is 3g only, will you still buy it?

  • Anonymous

Oh yeah, and that chart is wrong. If all three phones have the same resolution, pixel density MUST be higher on a smaller phone. The Droid 3 has to have a higher pixel density.

  • Anonymous

Can someone explain to me why I would want this instead of a Galaxy S 2?

    • Anonymous

      LTE

      • Anonymous

Don’t count out lte for the sgs2

    • http://twitter.com/binglut9 Brian

      Why not?

  • Illinipoke98

Arent these pretty much the specs that we were expecting?  What crawled up everyones shorts?   Sucks that it didn’t release 3 months ago, but nothing else worth a crap has released on Vz either.  For those of us with barely hanging on OG droids, this looks pretty decent.  If the GS2 is for sure going to come out just a couple weeks later and with LTE, then it wil be worth waiting for, but if that is not firm, then this is simply the best phone on vz.

    • http://twitter.com/binglut9 Brian

      Yes someone with a brain

  • http://www.facebook.com/objection89 Miguel Angel Portela

Isn’t this essentially the Droid 3 without a keyboard and with 4G capability?

    • Miguel

That’s what I’m getting from it.

    • Illinipoke98

Similar, but twice the Ram and can run moto’s webtop (no clue what that is worth).  Personally 4g is a pretty big deal as well.

      • http://www.facebook.com/objection89 Miguel Angel Portela

Interesting! Didn’t notice the ram. All in all though, I think I’ll stick with the Droid 3.

    • Anonymous

Uh, these specs are nothing new!  They’ve been leaked long ago and they’re not average.  The D3 has half the ram, no LTE, a smaller screen, a smaller battery and possibly a worse camera.

      • angelface

        also a worse pentile too

  • TomHolmes

I haven’t read through all of the comments yet, but when you look at the stats next to the D3, the Bionic looks so…. ordinary. Remember back when Kellex was saying there were some exciting new aspects to this phone? I mean, kudos for being the first LTE dual-core phone and all, but I’m not feeling the excitement.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_335MX75EBXS2AJFLCTEBL6KALU DD CC

Exactly, TomHolmes. Just keep in mind, it’s Kellex’s job to collect page views.  He’s gotta know ‘more than us’ to keep us coming back to his site

Sadly, looking at all the replies, we see that the “hype” generated from every wild rumor has cost many readers the excitement of embracing the highest-end phone to hit Verizon to date.
