Verizon Begins New Tablet Promo for August, Buy a Smartphone and Receive $50 Off a Tablet (Updated)

Since it’s looking like Verizon may not have a big device launch in August thanks to another delay on the DROID Bionic, they appear to be tossing out promos left and right to try and make up for it.  We wrote up their new wireless charging accessory promo earlier this morning, but have another one that might grab the attention of those of you in the tablet buying market.

For the month of August, Verizon will give you a $50 discount on any tablet (except the iPad 1 or WiFi Galaxy Tab 10.1) as long as you buy a new phone and sign a new 2-year contract.  It’s not 100% clear if you can only use that $50 discount on a contracted tablet or if you can use it to buy one outright at full retail, but our sources are telling us that it may be for 2-year tablet contracts only.

Update:  We’ve confirmed that both devices are required to be on contract in order for you to get the $50 off.

Will this get you to pick up the Galaxy Tab 10.1 with 4G LTE?

Cheers ___!

So they tack activation back on and then give you a $50 discount.  Regular robin hood Verizon is.

Two faults in this writers post:

The bottom of the photo says the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 is excluded.

The paper also says that “A 2-year service agreement is required on both, the Smartphone and the Tablet, devices.”

  • TomHolmes

Okay, help me with the math here.

I can buy a SG Tab 10.1 for $499 with Wifi connectivity – or –

I can buy a SG Tab 10.1 with LTE for $529 and a 24 month contract at $30 per month with a $50 off deal which equals…  $1,199.

So the question one must ask one’s self is this: is 4G on your tablet worth $700?

    • The Observer

      Exactly! Any other questions?

        where do babies come from?

Per their weekly circular, Best Buy has a better deal. Activate any smartphone on a new 2 year agreement and receive $100 of any tablet (or pretty much anything else in store)

As usual, Best Buy one-ups verizon again.  10 years ago I never thought I’d find Best Buy to be the lesser of two evils between them and Verizon.

Just got back from BestBuy…I was on day 13 on my Xoom purchased in Cali…exchanged it in NC to test out the Galaxy Tab 10.1. If I prefer the Xoom before 14 days, I could go back to any BB and exchange it again…love having options…

No big launch in August?  I thought the GS2 was launching on Verizon in August? Kellex?

We’ve seen zero leaks of a Verizon GS2, nor have we seen it pass through the FCC. I doubt we’ll see it in August. On other carriers August is more likely though.

Once again VZW shows up late to the game… starting to get sad really.

  • Bigsike

What is the Droid Bionic again?…

    • EC8CH

It’s something kinda like the Atrix, except that was actually released months ago

And its rumored to be almost as good as the Sprint Photon that is already available from Sprint.

        • Anonymous

Well it was originally slated as a Nextel phone so they had to rework it.

Why in hell do I want to add another 2 year contract to my plan, especially if the device I’m buying can burn through a month’s data in a couple hours?

If I could get a 4G tablet and activate data as-needed (e.g. when traveling), or if they’d finally roll out a family share data plan, then I’d consider it.

  • Joe

Acually Its very clear Kellex. Read the second paragraph.

  • Interstellarmind

i found having a smartphone (thunderbolt) and a tablet (xoom 3g) incredibley redundant.

now, if there was an androidcloud service that sync’ed music and all files, i’d sing a different tune.

  • http://profiles.google.com/sprunka Sean Prunka

Nope. I only want wi-fi only tabs. I’ll use Wireless tethering on my phone when I want data in a “cold” spot… existing Phone = unlimited data whereas a new plan (therefore tablet) = pay through the nose data. There’s no way I’d pay for limited data.

  • Stelv81

The tablets on contract are not selling so well. So they are trying to reel is in.

  • Eric

It says “connected Tablet*” So I’m a pretty sure that means with a 2 year aggrement. Verizon don’t give anything away for free.

  • Anonymous

it says 2year agreement required on both. second paragraph, last sentence. So full retail wont apply here. The prices still suck either way

  • Anonymous

I’m going to VZW right now and pick up the Galaxy Tab 10.1 with 4G LTE….then I’m gonna put it back down!

    FIRST?

  • PyroHoltz

Need to wait for tablet performance to increase. I may consider something next-gen.
