Motorola: We’ll Have Another LTE Phone and 2 New LTE Tablets by the End of the Year

by: | posted 07.28.11 | News

With the release time frame of the DROID Bionic now out of the way, we can start focusing on what Motorola has for us in the future.  CEO Sanjay Jha in today’s Q2 earnings call, would not go into intimate details (not that we were expecting him to), but he did mention his company’s plans to release all sorts of LTE products throughout the rest of the year, bringing their total to “at least” 5 devices.  Aside from the Bionic being the first dual-core 4G LTE device, Motorola will also release another LTE phone and 2 LTE tablets (not counting the original XOOM).

No mention of a carrier, but one would have to assume that at least one of these new devices will head to Verizon as the only carrier with a substantially established LTE network.  AT&T is supposed to be launching their first LTE test market some time this summer, but are not expecting devices other than hotspots to run on it until late 2011.

Could the other phone be the new AT&T device that popped up yesterday?  Possibly.  Do these two tablets include the XOOM2 which has been spotted a couple of times now?  Or maybe one will be a 7″ tablet to try and widen their portfolio?

Should be an interesting finish to 2011 for Motorola, especially with all of the frustrations of the first half of the year.  And let’s not forget, other than new devices, we still have bootloaders to talk about along with some major releases from other companies.

Motorola CEO: DROID Bionic Will Be In Stores in September

by: | posted 07.28.11 | Breaking, News

There you have it, straight from the top dog’s mouth.  Motorola CEO Sanjay Jha in an earnings call today confirmed that the DROID Bionic will not be coming out until September.  Like we told you the yesterday, those Benjamins can go back in your pocket for a few weeks while we await the official arrival which will not be August 4.  We started hearing about 9/1 as a potential launch date back around July 16 followed by leaked screenshots from companies like Sam’s Club suggesting the same - thanks to Sanjay today, we now know that time frame to be true.

Here is the quote from the call:

“We want to ensure that we deliver an exceptional consumer experience.  Bionic will be the first device to deliver the combination of the power of LTE and a dual-core GHz processor.  And it will be in the stores in September.”

Motorola To Release An iPod Nano? Wait, That’s Not Right

by: | posted 07.28.11 | Accessories

This is the Nano to reinvent the Nano. Motorola is possibly producing an “all-in-one fitness and music personal fitness device”. Try saying that 5 times fast. We’re guessing Moto thinks they can put their own spin on this idea and possibly make it better, even though it looks exactly like the competitions. It does have a couple redeeming qualities though: GPS, for accurate workout stats, wireless sync to PC (and Android devices), and even has an awesome watch band attachment. Err, scratch that.

Even more curious, is that this could be the device we saw way back in May on the supposed XOOM2 site? Who’s looking forward to a probable release of the “MotoActive”? Feel free to trash talk or praise it in the comments section below.

Bloo Kid on Android Brings Back Some Retro Gaming Memories, And That’s a Good Thing

by: | posted 07.28.11 | Apps, Games, News

Gaming on Android certainly seems to be here in full force these days.  We just posted up a new title called The Marbians earlier for the new school kids on the block that should be a hit, and are back with one more for those of us born well before the 90s.  The developer is calling Bloo Kid a “retro-style arcade platformer with cute pixelart” which is fine and all; we’re just here to tell you that it is awesome.  If you like the 3-star rating system that we have seen on games like Cut the Rope, Angry Birds, etc., then this will fill that void but in a much more interesting way.

The idea is pretty simple.  You jump on top of enemies to destroy them, try not to get hurt, and then collect a superstar at the end to finish up with a 3-star rating. There are dozens of different bad guys, 60 levels (with more on the way), and a soundtrack that is sure to bring back some memories.

Oh, and did I mention that it’s free?

The Marbians Crash Land On The Android Market

You can not reword that title anyway to make it more fitting. We gave you a preview of The Marbians on Monday, and people had mixed feelings. Well The Marbians are here now, so give it a go and see what you think. For the price of zero dollars and zero cents, you can’t really argue or not at least be a bit curious. For the players who get hooked though, there is a in-app purchase of just $0.99 that will unlock 64 other levels for you.

Samsung Fascinate ED05 Update is Ready, Fixes Incoming Call Issue

by: | posted 07.28.11 | Breaking, News

Within the last hour or so, we notified Samsung Fascinate owners that they could potentially take their device into a Verizon store if it was having trouble receiving calls and exchange it for a different certified like-new device.  So much for that idea.  A new 10MB update should be pushing to Fascinates in the next few days that will fix that nagging incoming call issue along with a couple of SMS bugs.  The new version is ED05.

Let us know if you see it!

Cheers @CodyBeckleyGCS!
