No go. Still trying to find a free offline nav app. So far I have found Navit which I cannot get to work. And Co-Piliot which is like 10 bucks but I haven’t tried it.

Extremely dissapointed tried this on the river. The download worked at first but my DX couldnt locate me on the map. So whats up with DX’s gps? After I switched out batteries my downloaded maps weren’t there.

All the Honeycomb tablets have GPS, thus far. (wifi and 3g ones both)

So I concur that:
- one 10 mi^2 map download is fast (< 10 secs on 3G)
- I did same test as you plantes42 and had the same result – HOWEVER:
- If I got nav directions first then went to Airplane mode everything kept working like a charm (when I reached my dest no pic but that's to be expected – it just gave me a revolving circle – fine!)

Soooo … looks like maybe just a small bug about calculating the route – unless that's really done server-side/hard to push to the client :-/

Good for travelling in other places. But do I need to somehow keep my downloaded maps updated?

Routing is done on Google’s servers, but it’s not impossible for the phone to do it. My old iPhone 2G could route just fine with Navigon and no cell service.

This is so important, so you all get likes from me.

ALSO: does anyone know if routing is actually calculated on the phone or sent to Google servers. Cause if it is not done on the phone then we would never be able to calculate without a connection to the web.
