Amazon Deal: FREE DROID2 Multimedia Station with Purchase of Car Dock

by: | posted 06.27.11 | Accessories, Deals, News

If you have been on the lookout for a multimedia dock for either your original DROID, DROID2 or D2 Global, then you may want to check out this new deal from Amazon that popped up over the weekend.  All you have to do is purchase a car dock for the device and they’ll toss in the multimedia station for free.  Actually, it looks like they are just discounting the heck out of both of them to make it look like you are getting one free, but whatever – cheap is cheap, right?

You can check out our review of the D2′s multimedia dock here.

Buy.

CyanogenMod 7.1.0 RC 1 Released For Most Supported Devices

by: | posted 06.27.11 | News, Root

Over the weekend the boys at Team Douche dropped CM7.1 on us with their first release candidate. Most of the CyanMod supported devices have builds available on their website, and after flashing to all my devices, it’s definitely smooth and fast. Unfortunately, 7.1 is not available for the DROIDX, but I’m sure we’ll be seeing that soon.

Something which we noticed running CM7.1 is that Hulu+ still doesn’t seem to work. We’re hoping they squash that bug in the very near future. 7.1.0 is based on Android 2.3.4 and has a pretty sweet list which should definitely meet all your Android needs. To check it out, just open up ROM Manager on your phone and check the CyanogenMod section.

If it isn’t in ROM Manager, head over here to find all the downloads. To see the ChangeLog, head here.

Cheers everyone who sent this in!

Full Gingerbread RUU for the DROID Incredible 2 Leaks, Rooted Version Too

by: | posted 06.27.11 | Incredible2, News, Root

If anyone has a DROID Incredible 2 and wants Gingerbread (Android 2.3) early, then you are in luck.  The full RUU has been leaked for all non-rooted users, but recommendations suggest that if you want root in the near future, that you should hold off from flashing it.  Apparently, the root method that is still unreleased by AlphaRevX, will not work on GB, so you are better off waiting for them to release their method (which we’re hoping is soon) and then upgrading to 2.3 with the rooted files we’ve included below.

Gingerbread for the DROID Charge About to be Leaked, Gets Teased on Video

YouTube Preview Image

The DROID Charge is rumored to be receiving Gingerbread (Android 2.3) in the very near future, but it appears now as if it’ll get leaked to all of you much sooner.  In the video above that @P3droid released over the weekend, a 2.3.3 build has been released and will be made available to rooted users shortly.  They had originally planned to release this to everyone by tomorrow, but it’s looking like there are still some bugs that need to be worked out including mobile hotspot.  I will say that the device seems much more stable and snappy compared to the 2.2 device we reviewed.  Oh, and 2.3.3 will also unlock the ability to play Netflix.

Charge owners, you ready for some Gingy?

Tango Update Includes Mention of Thunderbolt Gingerbread

by: | posted 06.27.11 | News

We now know that Gingerbread (Android 2.3) is up next for the Thunderbolt after receiving word from HTC support reps, but there is still no telling when it’ll arrive.  We were previously told to expect it by the end of Q2 (which is Thursday), however, that seems sort of unlikely unless we see an intensive last minute push.  The folks over at Tango certainly seem to think it should be here any day though.  In a recent update to the app that went live over the weekend, they fixed bugs that were preventing their video chatting app on the Tbolt after flashing 2.3 to it.

So is this a pretty good sign that we should be seeing it any day, now?  If you look at past market boo-boos, like this one that outed Android 3.1 just days before it was released, I’d sure say so.  Usually when developers get a hold of unreleased builds and start tossing out updates for them, we get a little giddy.

Cheers Adam and Vincent!

Verizon Support: 3G Customers Upgrading to 4G After July 7 Can Keep Unlimited Data

by: | posted 06.27.11 | News

On our quest to try and provide you with as many different upgrade situations as possible that will allow you to keep your unlimited data plan after July 7, we may have another to add to the list.  This is one of those that many of us sort of figured would be the case, but with rumors swirling about and no official mention in any of the pieces we’ve reported on, we weren’t 100% sure.  Well, according to @VZWSupport (the official Verizon support account on Twitter), if you are currently locked into a 3G unlimited smartphone plan and will more-than-likely jump to a 4G phone after the July 7 tiers begin, you will still be able to keep your original data plan.

Asurion Out of DROIDX, Offering DROIDX2 as a Replacement

by: | posted 06.25.11 | News

We’ve seen Asurion run out of replacement phones in the past and pick others to take their place, but going from a single-core to a dual-core phone is quite the impressive jump, I’d say.  And according to multiple readers of ours, that’s exactly what is happening to owners of the DROIDX who are making an insurance claim.  With Asurion running out of select devices (as seen in the screenshot above), the DROIDX2 (our review) is the current replacement phone until they receive another batch.  So while we would never tell you to go out of your way to cause damage to your device, now would be the time to look into replacing it should there actually be something wrong with it.

*Note - Yes, I see that the picture is of the DROID2, so you’ll just have to trust me on this one.

Cheers Andrew, app tipster, and everyone else!
