Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 32GB Available for $529 from eBay [Deal]

by: | posted 06.28.11 | Deals, News

Still haven’t made the jump to an Android tablet?  Would a brand new Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 WiFi with 32GB of storage help you take the leap if you could have it for $529?  That’s eBay’s “Deal Blast” right now which appears to only be valid for the next 4 hours or so.

We’re huge fans of this uber-lightweight Honeycomb tablet (our hands-on) and would easily recommend the Tab 10.1 to anyone looking to pick up their first or second tablet.  We know that their are quad-cores reportedly on the way, but the performance you’ll see with its dual-core Tegra 2 processor and 1GB of RAM are more than enough to last you for years.

Buy.

Andy Rubin: Over 500,000 Android Devices Activated Each Day

by: | posted 06.28.11 | News

Just last month at Google I/O, we were told that over 400,000 Android devices were activated on a daily basis, but today that number has jumped up and over 500,000 according to Andy Rubin.  The timing of this tweet couldn’t have been better, as iOS fan-tech-pundits have been on a rampage lately with the “Android has peaked, iOS will crush it with version 5 and the next iPhone!”  articles while sourcing a variety of random statistics and metrics.  All I can say, is that you’d have to be a fool to really think that this massive Android train will come to a screeching halt in September.  In fact, Android as a mobile OS is so far beyond iOS now, that it’s almost not worth doing comparisons anymore.

They both have completely different approaches to everything that they do, and there is nothing wrong with that.  There is no denying that the i*hone is an iconic device and one that has this massive following, but I guess I’ve just been under the impression that most of us had moved beyond the seriousness of the this vs. that silliness of it all?  Well, it seems like we sure are on the Android side of things – just don’t expect the iPeople to stop with their giant white-lettered pot shots during presentations or from their crew of “analysts” who will do and say anything to hike up that stock price.

500,000 though.  Wow.

Cheers Pops!

Want to Win a Toshiba Thrive Tablet? Make Your Friends Watch this Video Then

by: | posted 06.27.11 | Contests, News, Videos

The Toshiba Thrive is one of the new Tegra 2 Honeycomb Android tablets that we really haven’t talked much about, but wanted to at least point out the fact that you have a chance to win 1 right now.

Through Toshiba’s site, they are offering up 10 Thrive tablets to people who simply find a secret code somewhere in the video that we’ve embedded below.  It’s pretty simple, but it does sound like you need to let your friends know to watch the video over and over again, because as we understand it, the secret code won’t appear until the video has been seen 10,000 times.

Facebook App on Android Slowly Rolling Out Pages, Revamped News Feed?

by: | posted 06.27.11 | News

The Facebook app for Android received an update on Friday that included a new video sharing feature, a more well-rounded news feed, and Pages, but the real goodness may not have happened quite yet.  According to one of our long time readers, the photos above are what you can expect to see once the Facebook app update has been fully activated on your phone.  I know what you are thinking, “This looks like a giant i*hone kang!”  And yep, it does actually, but isn’t that what you all have been asking for?

So what we can see is a “Pages” button up top, that when pressed, pops up a wheel to take you to all of your other Facebook sections like Videos, Photos, Links, etc.  The top Camera, “What’s on your mind?”, and Share bar also seems to be locked and won’t disappear while scrolling which is nice.  Liking and Commenting can be done quickly from your News feed, and there could be even more.  Looks like the app will finally come close to the version from that other mobile OS, but now we’d just like to know when it’s coming.

Has anyone else noticed their Facebook app with these new features?

Incredible 2 Owners Receiving Text Messages from VZWNMN? Here is How to Stop Them

by: | posted 06.27.11 | News, Tips

Some time in the last few months, Verizon introduced a new free feature called “Sync and Connect” that allows smartphone users to view an all-in-one inbox online of all their email accounts as well as their contacts.   It’s almost like a direct copy of Backup Assistant (which we all hate), except it also includes access to your emails through MyVerizon.  Basically what you are doing with this service, is giving Verizon control over your email and contacts rather than letting Google, Hotmail or Yahoo handle it.  For those of us that like to be in control of everything on our phones, this is definitely not something that we would want to opt-in to.

Qello Introduces HD Concerts to Your Android Tablet

by: | posted 06.27.11 | Apps

If you’re as big of a music buff as we are here, then you’ll be loving this new app for your Android tablet. Qello brings a huge list of HD concerts straight to your device, and the selection is actually pretty legit. Everything from The Doors, to Dr. Dre, and Billy Idol. Installation from the Market is free, and most rentals are about $5, but for that price you get 30 days to watch your shows. Not bad, right?

Samsung Slider Heading To Verizon Pictured?

by: | posted 06.27.11 | News, Rumors

All of us here have a love for slider phones by default. Unless you came here recently, then I’m sure that we have all owned an OG DROID at one point or another. Recently pictured is Samsung’s newest contribution to the “Red Army” (Verizon), and it looks just like an Epic 4G. The device just got its Bluetooth and WiFi certificates, so we’re possibly looking at a couple more months for release.

If you’re feeling Samsung sliders, then this might be the device you’ve been waiting for. We’ll keep you posted if we hear any more details. Anyone down with sliders, or was that “so 2009″?
