Official: Movies Available to Rent on Motorola XOOM WiFi

We first reported last Thursday that it appeared as if Google Movies were on their way to the Motorola XOOM WiFi – our assumptions have been confirmed by Moto as of 5 minutes ago.  We’re still not exactly sure if the movies tab will ever be added via Market update or if you’ll simply have to download and run the Google Videos app that you are seeing above each time.  No matter what though, the service should be active.  Well, except for rooted and unlocked devices.

It is really a good scheme. Because by downloading movie from Motorola XOOM WIFi you do not need to go to theatre to watch movie. and you can watch movie with family at low price. So you can save your money and can watch your favourite movie.

  • My spouse and i felt very ecstatic when Louis could round up his homework through the entire precious recommendations he discovered from your own web site. It is now and again perplexing to just possibly be freely giving facts which many others have been selling. We really consider we need the writer to appreciate because of that. Those explanations you’ve made, the simple website menu, the relationships you assist to promote – it is everything remarkable, and it’s really letting our son and the family understand the idea is interesting, which is extremely serious. Many thanks for all!

  • any word on if the Amazon Appstore will also be adding movie buy/rentals? I can’t think they would limit themselves to just music and apps.

  • Larry Paseornek

I’d let you know, but i’m rooted, unlocked and kernalled 🙂

  • That’ll be great for all three people dumb enough to buy a Xoom.

Movies on android is pretty much beta with thinking of what’s available and no buy option only rent because of drm and lincesing I bet but it will get there. When Google launches a new anything expect it to be disappointing but will be great over time.

  • rob

My rooted wifi xoom, showed the market tab last friday? Got the video app off the market…works great…..although Mobo is a much better player

  • I am also writing to let you be aware of of the magnificent experience my girl went through viewing your web site. She realized so many issues, with the inclusion of what it is like to have an amazing teaching nature to have the others without problems learn about specified hard to do things. You really exceeded our own expectations. I appreciate you for churning out the insightful, trusted, informative and as well as fun tips on that topic to Gloria.

  • i had the xoom until yesterday, returned it back to costco thanks to their 90 day return policy. too much good stuff coming out down the line to have it make sense to hold onto it. but in regards to the movie thing, who really wants to spend 4 bucks renting a movie on your tablet when you can go to redbox for a buck???

    • Mctypething

Because you can’t put a DVD from redbox into a xoom.

      • though you could in theory rip the redbox and put the movie on your Xoom which is probably what Jack was thinking.

Wow… I have the Samsung 10.1 as well but if it were me I would hang on to the Xoom. That way you can test out all the new stuff Google puts out for tablets before it gets released to your 10.1. The Xoom may not be your favorite tablet, but having a dev device has its perks.

Odd selection of “top rentals”: American Pie, Curious George, Brokeback Mountain.

  • I’m unrooted and have the Movies tab in the Market

  • I got the movies in my market a few days after I got the actual movies application.

    didnt this happen last week?

  • Rob

Can someone post the apk, and I can try to sideload it on the a500… Though in a week or so the a500 will have the honeycomb 3.1 update. I imagine it will be made available then.

  • Handheldtech

Mine seems to be working great. Updated, a couple re-boots, and everything is where it is supposed to be.

Rented a couple movies. Streamed one, and downloaded the other. Never ran into a problem.

I am VERY confident the movie selection will get better.

  • Not being available to rooted users is only going to cause people to pirate movies. Being rooted doesn’t make us any more a criminal than non rooted users.

  • When I updated the Videos app reported last week, it automatically updated the Market app with the Movies tab.

On a slightly unrelated note, I hate that the dominant color for the Movies tab is red.  I feel it just doesn’t jive with the rest of Android’s coloring scheme.

  • Rob

    Not available for the a500.

  • I still don’t get why they are punishing rooted users. If I was the type to rip a movie I’d do it on my inherently rooted computer. Not an android phone/tablet.

  • Sparkysshocker

Wipe market data and it will show movies tab in market

Movies on Android have a long way to go

  • Mctypething

While I love this feature, has anyone else noticed how awful the selection of movies is? Very disappointing as a XOOM owner.

    • Anonymous

They’re doing it just to piss you off, you know.  I mean, why give you something positive to comment about for once?   (And ironically enough, it appears you do care about tablets – or is it only the tablet that you have that you care about, and all the other ones are so inconsequential that they shouldn’t be mentioned in articles you’re under no obligation to read?)

      Just curious…

      • Mctypething

I’m glad you have enough time on your hands to keep track of my comments. Keep living the dream man.

        • Anonymous

Nah, I’m just reading the articles because I’m interested in them.  Arrogant people like you tend to make themselves known pretty much wherever they are.  Must get a rush off the attention or something.

          • Mctypething

I’m arrogant because I think the movie selection in the android market stinks. Great logic there. Moron

I got the Movies tab immediately after I was prompted to update the Videos app on Thursday, which came in automatically on my Updates Notification…I might add that this is the 1st update of any kind on my Droid devices that I received/found out about BEFORE seeing it on Droid-Life, oh well, Kellex, you can’t win them all!  =)  Haven’t attempted to download anything yet, but it all appears to be working fine.  Non-rooted Wi-Fi Xoom.

  • I am unrooted on my Wifi XOOM and I have the movies tab in the market.

  • MFG

    What about wifi Tab 10.1s?

  • Drathus

My Market app updated Friday or Saturday and now lists the Movies tab.

However it’s at home right now so I can’t tell you what version # the market lists as.

    • Mjc2251

Same here…got an update friday night to my Market app and it now shows the movies tab as well.

      • Anonymous

both of you have wifi xoom’s?

  • movies tab was added in the market last friday on my wifi xoom

    good to go.
