Heading Into Your Local Best Buy To Pick Up A New 32GB Galaxy 10.1? Might Want To Call First

Hopefully you’re not expecting to get a 32GB version, because after calls to all of our local Best Buys, not one store had a single 32GB Samsung Galaxy 10.1. White or Metallic Gray. If you’re in the market for a 16 gig version, then you should have no issues there at all. We’re going to reach out to our local Best Buy people and figure out when they’re planning on getting some in, because according to the stores in San Fran, it won’t be for at least two weeks.

Update:  It sounds like it’s hit or miss on this one.  Some stores have them, some won’t have them for weeks.  Like we said in the post title, call first.

Anyone else having this issue at their local Best Buy? Let us know.

  • Serpico

Best Buy in Allen, TX had the 32GB on display (and in stock according to the floor rep) as of 6/18.2011.

  • Surfkru

Has anyone been able to tether the new 10.1 galaxy tab to there og droid via wifi tether. I’ve tried but
it’s a no go, anyone have other options?  Works great on my Xoom.

  • http://profiles.google.com/j450n79 J450N M

No worries getting mine..walked it and picked one up at BB over by Yankee stadium in the BX.  Love this TAB!

  • http://twitter.com/Finger13 Finger

Was thinking about getting a tablet this weekend, either the Galaxy Tab or the Xoom, but then I stopped to think for a moment…

Samsung will be adding a custom UI to the Galaxy tab very soon (It was actually originally suppose to ship with it, but got delayed, so they just shipped the tablet with stock android.) And even though the Xoom is the honeycomb flagship NOW, the Xoom 2 is just around the corner. Will Motorola keep it stock android like the Xoom? All signs point to NO. It’ll likely be bogged down with its own custom UI and Motorola bloatware. Sound familiar? It’s Android phones all over again. Now that each manufacturor has had time to get to know honeycomb, they’ll all want to slap their own identities on the OS. The Google Android team will WANT to develop their own stock android device if for no other reason than to bypass all the proprietary crap the major manufacturers love. A quick google search reveals rumors that they’re doing just that: working with LG on a Nexus Tablet device. Nothing solid, but it makes sense. I’m not going to make the same mistake I made when I got the Droid instead of waiting for the Nexus One. I’ll hold out for a Nexus Tab.

Not a SINGLE best buy had them in stock in store to pick up in the ENTIRE NYC/NJ/Conn area. Seriously what a joke!!!! Why release something that’s not available?

went and checked out the 16gb version today @ BB its really nice i like that fact that it vibrates unlike my xoom.

  • TvE

Ordered the 32GB model in white from BB online. Response: “The item listed below is not yet available to be shipped. We expect to
ship it within the next 1-2 weeks. We will ship the item sooner if it
    becomes available”

    • LionStone

I passed on the white 16g model at my local BB…preordered the 32g grey one instead…it’s nice! and light!
I asked how many they got and she said only 5. Two guys walked up after me and snatched two right away…

  • http://www.facebook.com/nickclyde Nick Clyde

    Incompetent bastards.

  • Wikid_one

I just recently bought a Transformer and decided I’d check out the Galaxy and see if it was worth returning my Transformer. I looked online and saw they were available at my store, so I went to check it out. Got to the store and didn’t see any on display. I asked 3 different people, and none of them had even heard of the Galaxy, let alone knew anything about availability. I had to go anyways for other stuff, so it wasn’t a wasted trip… still found it odd though.

  • slappynutz

not impressed too much money i will wait.

  • Gimlet72

Here is a pick of my local stores lol

  • DroidVader

Who cares about a 32gb model. It has sd card slot. Its cheaper to buy the extra memory separate.

    • Anonymous

Research…lol  there is no SD card slot…

  • Harlan

frys has them! Your best buys are always at frys! -Harlan

  • Want_to_buy_a_tablet

So, I can’t afford this guy.  Which is the next best?  Acer Iconia 16 GB tablet or Asus Eee Pad Transformer 16 GB?  Also, is the processor in the Acer Iconia faster than the Xoom (too expensive for me)?

    • Anonymous

Every Honeycomb tablet has the same processor right now: The Nvidia Tegra 2.

The Eee pad is 50 dollars cheaper where you can get it, and the majority of opinion I’ve heard is that it’s better anyways. The Acer Iconia has a slew of standard ports though, whereas the Eee pad just has a proprietary connector.

      • Want_to_buy_a_tablet

Thanks much.  I did just find this http://reviews.cnet.com/2722-3126_7-1134.html  where it looks like the Asus bests the Acer slightly.  I would miss the usb port that the Acer has, but the Asus has the rest.  SD card is important and I see that Galaxy tab doesn’t have this.  I don’t get why these companies just don’t throw that in.  I think most tech people, their primary target audience I would guess, want this.

        • Missthetrain

It’s an ipad clone even down to the “proprietary”connector, it would not look like an ipad if it has any kind of slot. In any case, I just got back from the local Best Buy. They look at me like I am crazy when I inquired about the tablet. I guess I can wait…maybe something else comes along in a couple of weeks.

  • Guest

At this Best Buy in Michigan we have 12 in stock at one store and 26 in transit to another store.

  • http://twitter.com/richardsonadm Adam Richardson

Check online for availability, I called a store in Phoenix, and they said they didn’t have any, but online says they do. It just came off the UPS truck instead of Best Buy truck. Scored one in Phoenix, AZ. 16gb metallic was the only one they had and only a few.

    • Trivtherenegade

Which store in Phoenix? I’m interested in this tab, but none of the stores I’ve checked out have had any on display.

  • Anonymous

Seems to me BB really screwed up the launch. My ideal of a launch is to be able to go in first thing in the morning and pick up the item I intended to purchase. No excuses, unless I was late and they sold out, but this whole thing about it’s still on the truck is ridiculous. I bet if it was an iPad 2 they would of had it on display shoving it down your throat first thing in the morning.

  • Tidusmccoy1515

In Austin, Texas and from what I’ve read on other sites most of Texas doesn’t have any in stock. They are all waiting for them to be delivered by UPS or Fedex. Some Best Buys are saying that they wont get any for a few weeks. This is absolute ridiculous. If you’re advertising a nationwide launch date, make sure that there are at least 1 or 2 in every store by the time the store opens.

  • http://www.linkedin.com/in/PhilHamlin Phil Hamlin

3 BB’s in the central Ohio area seem to have the 32GB metallic gray one in stock.. Didn’t bother checking the others.

  • Anonymous

Does this tablet seem too Apple-esque to anyone? No usb port, no SD card, one 30 pin proprietary connection so you have to buy their accessories. I mean, this is the tablet I would buy, but it’s kind of scary where the market is heading in terms of tablets.

    • Anonymous

And yet based on reviews and comments people are eating it up. I guess ports and expandability really aren’t that important to most.

      • Shabadu84

Isn’t that kind of the whole selling point about Android? People are complaining that it doesn’t have this or it doesn’t have that.  Well, yeah, but unlike Apple, there are multiple options based on what works for you.  Why is that a bad thing?

    • Missthetrain

It’s an ipad clone down to the price(s).

  • Anonymous

What can you say about best Buy except that they really freakin SUCK!!!!!!

  • Emeraldjun

Is the Tab on display at anyone’s Best Buy?

    • Anonymous

It was on display at mine with someone there to answer any questions.  The person answering questions was only there to speak directly to the 10.1.

My store is just outside of Boston, MA.

  • Andrew Hewitt

I’m over companies charging different prices for different storage. Just add a damn SD card slot.

But be prepared to pay 15% restocking fee if you take back, downside of Fry’s at least here in Phoenix.

Lucky for me I plan on getting the 16GB version anyway. Between cloud storage, Google Music and Movies, it’s all I need.

So wait, why do this when you can grab the 32GB xoom from costco for the same cost?  Is the 10.1 really that much sexier / sleeker than the xoom?

        • http://www.droid-life.com Tim-o-tato

It’s definitely sleeker, wouldn’t say sexier though :P

        • Anonymous

I had the Xoom, it’s a pretty chunky tablet compared to the iPad 2 and the Galaxy Tab 10.1. Although the Xoom also has USB, HDMI, and an SD card slot. So you get to pick form or function.

          • Anonymous

In regards to SD card slot it depends on what your definition of ‘has’ is.
            /s

        • Anonymous

The 10.1 has a much nicer display and slightly better battery.

But then again the Xoom seems much more durable and has ports…

  • Shabadu84

The best buy on 44th and 5th in Midtown Manhattan did not have any in stock at lunchtime.  Not because they were sold out but because the delivery had not come in yet.  That’s absolutely ridiculous for what was supposed to be the retail partner for this device.

  • Anonymous

I just swung in a few minutes ago to my local BB and picked up a 16GB model.  BB had someone on-hand to demo the unit for you.

The BB store I was in was pretty quiet without anyone really looking at any of the Android tabs on display (10.1 included).

Looks hit or miss with lines.

  • http://www.facebook.com/strom13 Joe Strom

    Samsung*

  • Anonymous

If it had a Micro SD Slot, than you could get the 16GB and a 16GB card and you’d have a 32 for 100 dollars less..wait, you say it doesn’t have one?  Ooops :D

    • Anonymous

ahhh, but they are going out with the USB add on for $20 and with that… you can “possibly” use jump drives and add on that extra capacity, but of course having the extra piece hanging off would suck.  I’m hoping it will work to add on an external hard drive and have huge amounts of capacity available :)

  • Anonymous

I’d get this no question if they weren’t going to put TouchWiz on it

    • Anonymous

Since it runs stock Honeycomb right now, I’m guessing there will be plenty of ways to continue running stock Honeycomb (or Ice Cream Sandwich) in the future.

However, there’s no guarantee Samsung will actually succeed with this TouchWiz thing. And even if they do, I’ve heard relatively good things about it (and how it doesn’t really change Android’s look and feel). The concern would be updates after the fact, but then again, Sammy seems to be doing better in that area.

      Don’t blow it Samsung!

      • Anonymous

Well, I’d guess the same, but I don’t want to plop down 500 dollars on a guess. At this point I don’t assume the hacker/dev community is going to be doing as much work in honeycomb as they do in popular android phones. Especially since it’s not open sourced yet.

    • http://twitter.com/mfg68 MFG

The TouchWiz update will be optional. Looks like you’re getting one now, “no question”, right?

      *rolls eyes*

      • Anonymous

Link? Citation? When Android 3.2 or 4.0 or whatever comes out, Samsung will let me update to that without getting TouchWiz?

        • Anonymous

Yeah I’m not buying the fact that TouchWiz will be optional. The manufacturers are always shoving their precious skins down our throats. It’s unlikely they will let us choose to use it or not.

  • Anonymous

The South Tampa store had 10 of each of the 4 models… There were 10+ people inline behind me by the time I left the store, 30 minutes after opening…  No other stores around here were showing any in stock while checking online

  • Zander

Puyallup Washington store. None in stock. No display model out. No idea where they are. Very competent bunch.

    • galaxytab10.1

I actually called the Puyallup store when they opened and they haven’t got any in yet. The truck comes in around 2:00 this afternoon. I Pre-Ordered mine, so I’m not too worried, but the person I talked to at Best Buy said that I wasn’t the first person to call this morning.

    • Anonymous

Well, it is Puyallup(coming from a former resident). ;)

If parts of shoes were as hard to get a hold of and manufacture then maybe that would have some merit but since electronic parts are much different the analogy is irrevelant

      • DroidzFX

Have you to the nike sweat shop? Didnt think so. Those parts are rare sir, rare.

        • Anonymous

Maybe if you could spell or use spell check your post would actually be understandable.

    • Anonymous

I don’t get it?? It’s not like only part of the galaxy tab is out today and then in 2 weeks you can go back and pick up (for example) the battery.  You get the full item, ready to use, if you can find it in stock.  If that same set of shoes was sold out the first day (think Air Jordans back in the day) you probably would not be able to just go back the next day and have them in stock.. it’s going to take time to produce more.

      • DroidzFX

Damn you guys are a buzz kill. New anal-ogy…two pairs of shoes. one blue one red(made by children hidden in mountains kidnapped at birth). Both are very similar except the red pair has a thicker sole for people who need more cushion. Both are suppose to be released same day but NO only the blue pair comes out. Why you ask because they didnt have anymore soles to make the red shoe after making the blue shoe. Is this right? No. Cause the people that wanted the red shoe are forced to get the blue shoe and now their feet hurt. The End

        • WAldenIV

Memory on a tablet is practically irrelevant now that Amazon and Google have their cloud services up and running.
