Download: CM7 Released for the DROIDX

Well folks, it’s here.  You can finally get a taste of CyanogenMod7 for the DROIDX.  Our boy @cvpcs worked some magic, tested it over the last few days, ironed out the majority of bugs and has released a version (basically a beta) that’s stable enough for everyone to try.  This is a pretty damn exciting day.  And no need to for any extra wordplay, let’s just jump on into it.

READ FIRST:  There are two sets of instructions here – the first is from CVPCS and is essentially the “official” way to get CM7 on your device.  The only problem here is that you’ll need to SBF back to 2.3.340 in order for that to fly.  This will be the method that he supports going forward though.  However, if you want to go the fast and sneaky way, then you’ll want to check out the instructions that the guys at MyDroidWorld have put together which allows you to jump to CM7 from any build, including the latest Gingerbread (.596).  Both sets are clearly marked below.

Busted Things:  Camera/camcorder and maybe Youtube.

Working Things:  Audio playback, radio, 3g/data, calling, video playback, gps (maybe), accelerometer, notification lights, battery charging, usb connectivity, bluetooth, bluetooth audio, bluetooth calling, wifi, opengl, theme engine, market installs, dsp manager, maybe more?

______________________________________________________

Instructions:  [CVPCS VERSION]

*Note – This method only works if you start from a clean 2.3.340.

*You can donate to CVPCS here.

1.  Flash the 2.3.340 SBF.  [Download]

*If your phone bootloops when it loads back up, pull the battery and boot into recovery by holding Home+Power, then Search when the Android appears.  Select factory reset/wipe data.

2.  Download CM7 for the DX and drop it on your SD card.  [Download] [Mirror]
3.  Install z4root and root your phone.  [Instructions] [Download]
4.  Download and install D2 Bootstrap (NOT DX BOOTSTRAP).  [Download]
5.  Bootstrap your phone and head into recovery.
6.  Scroll down to wipe data/factory reset just for good measure.
7.  Choose “install zip from sdcard.”
8.  Then “choose zip from sdcard.”
9.  Select the CM7 file that you downloaded from above.
10.  Install and reboot.

*If your phone bootloops on first reboot, pull the battery and reboot into stock recovery holding Home+Power, then Search.  Wipe data one more time and it should boot back up.

*GOOGLE APPS Note – This does not include the set of GApps.  Instructions can be found at the bottom.

11.  Enjoy!

Instructions:  [MDW VERSION]

*Note – This method works regardless of the OS build on your phone.  Can be used with Gingerbread or 2.2.

1.  Download the All-in-One Monster file.  [Download] [Mirror]
2.  Drop the file on your SD card and reboot into recovery.
3.  Go to mounts and storage
4.  Format system
5.  Format data
6.  Format cache
7.  Mount system
8.  Go back
9.  Go to install update from zip
10.  Select the update-cm-*-MONSTER.zip

*YOU WILL GET A RADIO INSTALL ERROR IGNORE THIS AND RESTART PHONE.

13.  Hold down power button and select reboot and then recovery.
14.  In recovery select “install zip from sdard.”
15.  Select “choose zip from sdcard.”
16.  Find the Monster.zip and install.
17.  Reboot phone.

Instructions for Google Apps:

1.  Once you have CM7 up and running you can find Google Apps in ROM Manager.
2.  Flash ClockworkMod Recovery.
3.  Head into Download ROM and select one of the Google Apps (cvpcs recommended 20110307).
4.  Install.

*FINAL NOTE (PLEASE READ)DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES INSTALL/RUN DROIDXBOOTSTRAP OR DROID2BOOTSTRAP WHILE RUNNING CM7. IF YOU IGNORE THIS YOU WILL HAVE TO SBF YOUR DEVICE.

Full support can be found at RootzWiki and MyDroidWorld.

The only thing it claims to not do is allow 720p video recording, only 480p.

Netflix working for anyone on CM7?  Just tried to use the market app and may seem to not work.

  • Robsbot The Robot

I can confirm that the Camera, GPS, and Youtube are down, however aproximate positioning due to area WIFI is working.

  • Kentpickle1

why would anyone want to do this if theirs no cam.

    • Anonymous

To be honest.. I don’t use the camera that often at all. The finicky GPS is a bit more worrisome than the camera. Plus, I hear that some market cameras are working.

Anyways, it’s just exciting/unbelievable to actually have CM7 on my droid x.

  • Sketch

Anyone know if I can straight install from LibertyGB v0.6, or should I flash back

    • http://twitter.com/BiGGiE_Q Biggie Quan

I installed it with the MDW monster straight from LIberty 0.8 no problems.  Activating the phone was tricky since no keyboard option popped up, but hit homescreen and you can use the emergency dial to hit 1.

      • Sketch

        thanks

      • No

when activating, hold down the menu button & it will bring up the keyboard

  • http://twitter.com/nathank1989 Nathan Kadish

Damn, I liked the gingerbread calendar and dialer. Is there anyway to install those?

    camera is essential

So some great news from cvpcs today, “Good news: all of CM4DX is now merged into the mainline CM tree. just need to work out a few kinks for nightly status,” and, “i’ve gotten gps and camera work using some workarounds. no camcorder yet.”

  • Dragonis2345

just installed on my droid x camera def aint working for me some say it work for them tho but mod is fast and awsome

OK maybe dumb question, I am on stock Froyo 2.3.340 rooted with Z4root and backed up with droid2 boorstrap. If install this and have to go back to my back up can I do it from the CM7 recovery? Also I assume I would have to go to the market and reinstall and configure all my apps.
    Hope some none can answer.

Restore your backup before installing CM7, go to the market and download Titanium Backup, backup your apps, then proceed with installation. If you were to restore that backup while on CM7 unspeakable things would happen.

I made the jump from Liberty GB to CM7.

    Worth it.

Liberty GB v.08 seemed a bit snappier but the options on CM7 are SOOO deep (that’s what she said), that I have my phone exactly how I want it to be.

Just installed. No CRT-animation? Even though this is awesome… the fact that the animation is missing disappoints me.

kellex : First I would like you to know that the DEVS are great
and you always let them know that. Well I must give you a special thanks for
giving us all the great news from them. You make this hack android life a well
informed and wonderful experience. I must say thanks for all your hard work,
I’m always looking up to you to make this droidlife a happy droid life and hope
you feel me. One luv dogg and keep up the good work. Second I would like all to
read this post and hope this helps anyone with this upgrade as I see it. Please
everyone let all read this or inform anyone of my post I think I will help
anyone with a DroidX make the jump to this CM7 android 2.3.4.. This is how It
worked for me so far from ROM Fission 2.5.7 DroidX Vanilla Generic Android AOSP
android 2.2.1 to MDW VERSION of this post. Next I would like to say I did a backup
with DX BOOTSTRAP then did the upgrade and did a backup of this cm7 with the
reboot in to recovery by holding the power key then hit reboot and last
    recovery.

I was able to install this then I was able to restore my phone
back to fussion and back to this cm7. Only problem I have found is that the
settings hard key works the same as the search key so I installed (button
savior) from the market to help me with this problem. I still need more time
with this rom but hope this helps all that have questions about going to and
from this on android 2.2 with all roms. Good luck with all on this and android
is the life so make a good life droidlife.

PS : Please ask any questions as I’m still testing this now,
next the cam and then the gps but I’m indoors I’ll do that one later!!!

The camera works for me. I have taken lots of pics and all is working. This is really amazing! I love my phone without blur! This will be my ROM until a new carrier comes to town or Verizon gets there head out of there ass and gives me *THE CUSTOMER* what I want…..A phone without an ugly ass skin with all the bloatware bull shit I can’t remove. I spend $130.00 a month with this carrier and they have the balls to force there bloatware on me. I am the one who should get to decide whats on my device not you greedy bastards!

    PLEASE ANSWER THIS SOMEONE:
I CAN SBF BACK TO FROYO USING CM7?

Yes. It doesn’t change the bootloader version. heck, even the official gingerbread update didn’t change it. I went from gingerbread back to froyo and now on CM7.

I simply wished to say thanks once again. I do not know the things I might have used in the absence of these ways shared by you concerning such a area of interest. It truly was a very fearsome issue in my view, nevertheless viewing the skilled strategy you solved it made me to weep with happiness. I will be happier for the support and then wish you are aware of a powerful job that you’re putting in training some other people by way of your blog post. I am certain you have never met any of us.

You can install it on the Droid 2 using the same method above. Although the camera still doesn’t work and the physical keyboard mappings are off. Other than that it works great.

i didnt mount system. failed install. sbf gives fail. im screwed.

As Guest said, No Camera = No Deal.

    That aside, GREAT JOB, ALL!

  • Ezra Byrd

I’m a D2 owner, and the CM4D2 is in development over at rootzwiki. However, I don’t think I’m going to use it. I’m gonna stick with Jrummy’s Liberty ROM. Why? Because he has put a lot of work making our phones not suck. So unless he gives up because CM is here, I’ll stick with Liberty. Besides, Jrummy is a lone coder, and he is going to have to give up one day. (New device, life changes, etc) but if the D2/DX are put into the main CM tree, then I know I can switch any time I want, including after Jrummy moves on.

  • BleezyD

I think ill wait for the bug-free version with all aspects working.  But very exciting progress indeed!

  • Doucheman

Will this work on my Droid X2??

    • Anonymous

it probably will eventually, but not right now. This is DX only. However, 2nd-init, which is the magic jelly that makes it work, can most likely be used to achieve the same effect on your X2, as the bootloader and such is the same, iirc. Give it a little while.

  • Andrew Layman

I’m loving Liberty, are there any real advantages to CM7 over liberty?
