LetsTalk.com Joins the Memorial Day Weekend Android Sale: DROIDX2 for $119 and Incredible 2 at $63.99

by: | posted 05.27.11 | Deals, News

Let me just say that if you have an upgrade available to use, this could be the best weekend of your life to use it.  Many of you are probably waiting for the DROID Bionic, and I completely understand why, but if dual-core and LTE together is something you can live without for another 20 months, it’s time to jump onto a new device.  Amazon is holding it down with some impressive 4G phone prices, Verizon may be handing out Thunderbolts for $99, and now LetsTalk.com is joining the party with their own set of deals.  While they aren’t going to attempt to match Amazon’s 4G sale, they are willing to undercut them on Big Red’s new 3G smartphone lineup which includes the DROIDX2 (our hands-on), Incredible 2 (our review), and the Xperia PLAY (our hands-on).

Here is what they just dropped in our inbox:

Until May 31st, we have the following:

•       Free Overnight Shipping (This is actually for all carriers)
•       A 20% off coupon for all new Verizon Android Devices (coupon code = 7c7f3319)

Here’s the rundown of top non-4G Verizon devices and their price relative to Amazon once the coupon is applied:

•       Droid X2 @ $119.99 (vs. $149.99 at Amazon, $199.99 at Verizon)
•       Droid Incredible 2 @ $63.99 (vs. $79.99 at Amazon, $199.99 at Verizon)
•       Xperia Play @ $79.99 (vs. $99.99 at Amazon, $199.99 at Verizon)

Be sure to use that coupon code.  Buy.

Verizon May Be Holding Their Own “Private” Memorial Day Sale, Thunderbolts for $99

by: | posted 05.27.11 | Deals, News

Memorial Day weekend is sure shaping up to be all about cheap 4G smartphones.  First we had word out of Amazon that prices on all of their 4G phones would be slashed, and now we’re getting word that Verizon may be holding one of their own.  According to the text message received by one of our readers, certain customers are getting invites to an “exclusive Private Sale!” where they can pick up an HTC Thunderbolt for as little as $99.  Hello, steal.

We’re pretty sure this sale won’t be open to just anyone and is likely for those with upgrades available, but this may be worth checking your account over.  We know that Verizon is holding a variety of regional sales, some of which will get customers up to $50 off of any phone, but this one looks to be combining a few.  You’ll remember that this phone normally retails in Verizon stores for $249, so at half the price, you may want to see what kinds of negotiating skills you have.

And we’ll be digging for more details…

Cheers Andrew!

Amazon Slashes 4G Phone Prices for Memorial Day Weekend: DROID Charge, Thunderbolt and Revolution on the Cheap

by: | posted 05.27.11 | Deals, News

Our friends over at Amazon just reached out to let us know of their big ol’ Memorial Day Weekend 4G sale that has already begun.  They’ve slashed prices on all 4G phones which includes the lineup currently offered by Verizon:  HTC Thunderbolt ($129), LG Revolution ($149), and DROID Charge ($179).  Not a bad deal, I’d say.  Obviously those are the new customer prices, but I’ve looked at the “upgraded” pricing and it’s almost as enticing and just a few bucks higher.

And to top that off, there is also word floating around that these will all be free on Monday, but we have been unable to confirm that with Amazon directly.  If we do, we’ll be sure to update this post.

Probably one of the hardest things I’ve done so far on this site was reading through all of these and determining the winners. You all have some fantastic ideas. We wish everyone could win.

The two winners are…

Win 1 of 10 JRummy Applications – DROID Overclock Or Root Tools *Updated with Winners!*

Jared Rummler aka JRummy16 is one of our favorite people here at Droid-Life. He has donated 5 copies of 2 applications for us to give away during our amazing Reader Apprecation Week for all of you to enjoy. Both applications are for rooted users only. Droid Overclock is an overclocking app, naturally, just like SetCPU. And with a beautiful interface it’s a must have for any rooted user who enjoys speed boosts. Root Tools is an extremely powerful application which installs custom fonts, boot animations, allows users to change build.prop, and seriously a whole mess of other features. Sound like fun?

And the winners are…

App of the Day: News360

by: | posted 05.27.11 | Apps, News

If you own a Honeycomb tablet (like the XOOM we are giving away), then News360 is probably the only news app you’ll need to install.  Other than the fact that it has an amazing UI, you’ll also be more than pleased with the 1,500+ sources it’s constantly pulling from.  It can be personalized to your favorite topics, learn from your Facebook “likes”, pull up local news with a single click, and most of all is FREE.  The only annoyance that I’ve seen, which will likely be fixed the more I play with it, is the ridiculous amounts of soccer coverage in the sports section.  It’s clear that this app was not made in the U.S.  Took me 5 minutes to find one article on last night’s Eastern Conference Finals.  Other than that though, this thing is top notch.

LG Revolution has been Rooted, Good Bye Bing.

by: | posted 05.27.11 | News, Revolution, Root

For those of you that picked up an LG Revolution yesterday, you should know that our boys over at RootzWiki have already rooted it.  It looks like LG left this one pretty wide open to that old rageagainstthecage exploit, making it easily rooted by pushing a couple of files in adb.  Time to remove that Bing!
