Google Music App Updated, Songs Can Now Be Deleted From SD Card

Everyone’s new favorite cloud streaming music app (Google Music) has an update available in the market that brings one major feature which was curiously missing from the start:  song deleting.  If you have been making songs available offline, you have been unable to remove them afterwards – well until now.  All you have to do us go back into your “Make available offline” settings and unpin whatever you want removed.  It should wipe them out of your cache folder after doing so.

Cheers Mark!

I’m on the latest Google Music and I see no way to delete songs. I really needto do this.

  • tommymartin1234

Im unable to unpin songs :( Why ?

  • Menyedi

Just noticed that my library of Albums includes quite a few that I didn’t upload.  Has anyone else noticed this?

  • Sackmonkey

Is it possible to voice search for a song/artist/album/playlist?  I can’t seem to make it work (or find it by Googling since these terms are so generic).

LOVING Google Music on my rooted OG Droid!  :D

  • dave dave

my computer is uploading my music library right now anxious to get it completed. does anyone know if there is a limit on the qty of songs you can put in it. i am in process of uploading over 7000 but have about another 8000 to go.

An interesting discovery for me, I tried google music website on my iPad, and to my surprise it works! I was even able to press the home button and use other apps while the music continued to play in the background. I was also able to double tap home and play and pause the music from the application switching menu music controls.

I don’t think it’s been reported at all that Google Music works with iDevices.

anyone else having a cache cleaning problem with “make available off line?”  After the cache cleaning app has done its magic, the music app then has to repeat going through the whole list of online music loading it on the SD card to make available offline again.

I have had nothing but problems trying to upload music – anyone else having issues with this?

  • Sanderson

I got mine yesterday, and have begin the slow, arduous uploading process. Already I’m a bit dismayed that there is no way for me to delete items from my library, especially music suggestions that they added that are in no way something I’d want to have cluttering up my player.

    I haven’t received my invitation =(

Now we need a Chrome extension–a small icon to the right of my Omnibar, that I can click and a small, mini-player will drop down and allow me to search for a song, skip a song, etc.

    • Max Friedermann

Try Music Plus for Google Chrome.

Did anyone with a rooted phone get the invite?

    • Anonymous

I did. My phone has been rooted since that gingerbread leak for Droid X that installed without bootstrap.

    • Anonymous

I got it on my rooted DInc.

    • Fdkatz

Original Droid rooted and running Cyanogen 7.0.3 got the invite and working fine.  (As is Netflix)

Got my invite today, been uploading my music for about 5-6 hours now. I’m on 358 of 7987 so far. This upload is gonna take a week lol. Ill enjoy it when its finally done though.

  • RW-1

Also … on and OG Droid, would the ability to see the pins shown depend on the openGL version?

  • RW-1

Just got my invite and uploaded a few things, nice, will need improvements which I see will come down the road …

  • FortitudineVincimus

I like this app and setup, but it has flaws:

    1. I see it cannot upload .mp4 BUT I have 350 basic .mp3 files it would not accept and I have no idea why
    2. the artwork it picks for playlists is horrible
    3. there are no stats in the actual app about your music: how many songs, total time, etc.
    4. took like 2 days just to upload 3500 songs.. eek
    5. it endlessly runs in the background when not in use.. why?

Holy crap! Less than 10 seconds after I posted the above message, I get an email notification on my phone. And what do you know…it’s an invitation to Google Music!

Let me try this then — it would be nice if I could get a beta invite. Really. Because I’m supposed to write up a comparison piece between it and the other streamers.

I guess it would be nice to finally receive my Google Music invite. Then I could actually see if these features are working on not. Sigh…

  • Arthur2142

Before the update I was able to set Google Music as the default player for my docking station widget, now it doesn’t appear that I can do that anymore. Is anyone else having this problem, or do you know how to fix it?

  • ShaneBoddie

I’m still waiting for my Music Beta invite. Hope it’s here soon.

  • Larry F

Everyone time I try to download and install this app I get “Package file not signed correctly” can anyone help me with this? I’ve tried a bunch I’d times.

    • Larry F

I’m on a stock droid x by the way

  • http://twitter.com/stevexmioli steve

can someone screen shot what the remove a song menu looks like? i cant get it to work on mine at all even after this update

  • Nxus1ne

Still having problems playing WMA files.  About every other song or so I get “Error playing the requested track” and it skips to the next song.

Sticking with the original version until that gets fixed, it’s a deal breaker since I have a ton of WMA files.

    • Ficherxrebelle

Where can you download the original version for the android?

  • Hamholla

Tron legacy reconfigured is incredible. If you havent heard it i suggest you look it up. Glitch Mob did some fantastic work.

Yaaay!! Got my Music Beta invite today!

  • DroidX_Owner

Lets see if they have fixed the random song repeating for no reason when song is done anomaly I have seen in a few Droid X’s running froyo.

    • Anonymous

I haven’t seen that on my D2 running Liberty. The only bug I saw was a song stopping randomly, but that was on the pre-release version.

    • Alex9483

Does that on my stock Tbolt.

  • Cjreyes666

Only problem is that you can only delete one song at a time and not the whole album or artist. Another features that would be great would be an equalizer and the ability to choose the folders with music on your sdcard.

    • Anonymous

If you uncheck Make Available Offline it doesn’t get rid of the album?

      • spectreoflight

It will if its the last song, but what i think he is referring to, is having the option to delete a whole album or whole artist at once instead of one song at a time.

        • Anonymous

Right, but if you click the down arrow next to an album the popup has the option to make it available offline. That’s how I’ve made albums available offline so far, I haven’t tried taking them off that way though.

I guess it likely won’t matter, but you can do mass deletions from the PC player, selecting an album or songs …

I haven’t gotten to play with the streaming yet, stupid beta process, but the app Equalizer has integration with the player, at least with offline. I’m just guessing it would work with cloud as well.

The only problem I’ve had with Google Music so far is that pinned items don’t show up in other music apps, which is kind of a bummer. I like Google’s Music app, but there are better ones out there (like Fede’s new music app).

    • Ace87

I Completely agree, when other music apps can stream from google music I will be really happy

    • Anonymous

It’s probably to prevent piracy. When Google gets the deals from record companies and they stream unlimited music to your device, having third party apps access the music will enable you to copy the song to your SD card and voila, free music.

      • Anonymous

I can already do that though. I know where the music is stored on my phone, it’s just 3rd party apps aren’t looking there.
