App Of The Day: Text Clock

Monday, after reviewing Simple Text, I promised to bring an app that would add to the minimalistic arsenal, so I bring you Text Clock. As you can see above, Text Clock takes a unique approach to the time telling game. This is not a widget but instead runs as a live wallpaper and displays the time in text format. With the settings menu, you can customize the wallpaper with multiple color combinations and different positions. One of the features that caught my attention right away is how the clock reads minutes until hour along with minutes after hour. In other words, 4:46pm will read “fourteen minutes to five o’clock” or 8:20am is “twenty minutes past eight o’clock”. This may not seem groundbreaking but whenever you see time told this way, it just feels classy. And to top it off, this app uses very little battery. So grab this one up if you are into minimalistic text or if you are looking for that next great time app. There is a Lite version and a .99 cent version.

Free version Market Link | Paid version Market Link

*Todays free paid app from Amazon App Store is Walkabout. Normally .99 cents and has a current 4 star AAS rating.

*Yesterday we reviewed Bubble.

If you have a suggestion for a future App of the Day, send it on over.

I like it.  Its not minimalistic, but it is classy.  I went on and paid for it.

For some reason it won’t allow it to install on my X… won’t show up in market and it’s grayed out on the web..

    • Boazzj

You running Gingerbread?  It doesn’t work with GB

    too complicated!

I like Clockr Better as a minimalistic approach,

It is nice that this is a live wallpaper though

    • Anonymous

Agreed, definitely cool that it’s a live wallpaper

I see that leading to even more problems though. In the screenshots above, you wouldn’t want to put any icons or widgets on the top half of your homescreen.  I make the same sacrifice for my Beautiful Widgets home clock, but that’s only on one home screen.  Does this mean if you want to be able to see the clock, you are sacrificing half of your homescreen space?

      • William O’Beirne

Hey Huelsblu, thanks for the complimentary marks.

In my most recent update, I’ve added vertical positioning and spacing sliders, and there is also text size. You can really shrink this sucker down, having it only take up 1 or 2 rows of icons/widgets. I’ll have to upload new screens to emphasize this point. The pro version also has a 15×8 character layout, as opposed to the more vertical 11×10 layout, which allows for even further shrinkage. Here’s a screen cap of all of those factors in action: http://i.imgur.com/bStU6.png

I hope this is what you were looking for!

Why are you using Blur (the old one at that!)!

    • William O’Beirne

Are you referring to the glow effect? If there’s a better way, I’d love to know!

    another minimalist theme/clock/widget…yawn

  • Cgmartin33

Pretty cool and clean…but not enough to break me away from wp clock. Now if they would just add weather…absolute perfection!

I would love to have the ability to set a custom image under the text instead of just a color.

  • Steve Schneider

Isn’t this the same thing as qlocktwo?

    • Anonymous

no, because qlocktwo isn’t a livewallpaper app.

OMG THANK YOU! I saw this awhile back on XDA but never found out what it was called. Does it resize well or not?

    • Anonymous

Your welcome! :) Not sure about the resize. I’ve already had to remove in preparation for other apps I’m testing. Let us know?

Pretty unique clock I will admit, however it hardly seems very minimalistic….

       Isn’t that the point?

    • Anonymous

Can’t any more minimal than 5-7 characters :P

      • Mike

It’s not really minimalist to have EVERY word you might use and change the color of four of them. Also the “IT IS” is unnecessary. Does it every say “IT WAS”, “IT’S ABOUT”, or “IT’S FINNA BE”?

        • Anonymous

I now want it say” It’s finna be”

Crazy, I can’t download it from the market for my Droid X running a GB leak.

      change you fingerprint………

      • Mckenzir

How do I change my fingerprint?

        • Anonymous

I have covered this in almost every post since last week. :P
Use either the market fix app(search for it) or manually go into your build.prop and change the fingerprint to .340′s print. You have to be rooted to do this.

          • Mckenzir

            Appreciate it Mark, thanks pal.

          • Anonymous

No worries. :) If you need help, a quick search will lay it all out for ya.

Thanks for the tip.  It worked like a charm!

  • The Observer

Nice. Definitely will try this out.

Same style as the screensaver I use on my netbook :-)
