DROID Charge to Go Back On Sale Tomorrow

We just received word that the DROID Charge will go back on sale tomorrow, May 14 after a two week delay due to issues still unannounced by Verizon.  Techs and sales reps have been informed to throw on those Charge t-shirts from launch if they are scheduled to work this weekend.  I guess that means we should probably put out that review, eh?  I’m sure that many of you would like to know whether this should be your next DROID or not…

Cheers C and M!

I’ll guess I get it and then in 14 days return it and I can get the Xperia Play that rumored to come out May 26th :)

NOT TRUE – I just called my local Verizon store to see if I could swap my battery-sucking Thunderbolt out for a charge tomorrow, and the representative told me that while they did have a meeting to notify associates that they would still be selling the device, they wouldn’t be doing so until the end of the month. She sounded surpised at my mention, saying that they didn’t normally release on Saturdays, and then confirmed the end of the month expectation with a co-worker.

I’m ok with the Charge, but just not too sure about all these problems with 4G LTE. I know new devices are always going to have a couple issues, but has there been one yet that plays nice with Verizon’s 4G? I guess we will have to WAIT a little longer to find out, but isn’t looking too promising.

When I first heard about the Droid Charge, I wanted one: LTE, big *beautiful* screen, who cares that it isn’t dula core right?  How I use my phone for doesn’t really require heavy duty processing, right???

Well, now I’ve read the reviews and it has issues with LAGGING and not being responsive!  After seeing the PATHETIC quadrant scores I can see why it has a problem.  I don’t NEED dual core speed, but I WANT something at least a bit better than the droidx.  Heck, even my rooted D1 has a better quadrant AND has a good ROM so it doesn’t LAG at all.

I just want a good LTE phone and I’m willing to wait a bit for it.  Thunderbolt is pretty nice, if it had better battery life I would be strongly considering it.

OH now that makes you want the phone!  I most def want a phone that release dates were pushed back, then released, then pulled, then released again maybe oh yeah I’m all in!  Nothings better than an unstable phone.

im pretty sure that the whole delay was for connectivity issues i had 1 the day they came out but didnt live in a 4g area …..it took a hour on the phone but verizion finaly activated mine but then after about 2 weeks of use i realized that it was dropping my 3g/4g signal quite regularly …..so i returned it back to amazon and got a inc 2 which im kinda liking ….it feels a little dated im hoping i can maybe return it for the x2 but doubtful

when samsung decides to cooperate with google and provide timely or at least simply provide updates then ill be convinced samsung phones are back up to high end status. till then you still suck samsung….. except ur TVs hehe

What I was told by a Verizon rep just 3 days ago was that Samsung was having issues when the phone would go off of 4G. When it lost connectivity to the 4G network it would continually search for it, refreshing waaaay too frequently and killing batteries within 1-2 hours.

So kind of like what the thunderbolt was doing for many people. Wonder if all these new LTE phones are going to be this way.

Honestly, I have no desire to own this phone. Specs and price dont line up, and the delays that shrouded its release make me more hesitant. Isnt it just a big Fascinate with battery-draining 4G anyway? seems like it, I have no desire to own this phone.      I’ve heard that before.

I am just wondering why can’t these OEM’s and carriers stay on the same page and work the bugs out before Marketing is blasting to everyone in the planet to buy their phone.

Then Opps “Houston We Have A Problem”, and this goes on and on lol

The Charge has some nice specs But I’ll wait for something better.  Samsung has a lot of proving to do.  IE.. Updates

    • http://twitter.com/wynalazca Andrew Webber

Yup. They have to prove to morons that they really do make the best hardware on the market because people are too stupid to realize it themselves.

      • Gadgetskopf

Wow.  Zero to insulting in under 30min.

      • Anonymous

Yes but the software sucks so hardware can only do so much when the software is lacking.

      • Anonymous

Yeah it’s a shame everytime you hear of a device coming out you have to
wonder about the performance and updates to fix bugs because they’re in such
a rush to deploy the device and make revenue

      • Tesseract 3

No, they have to prove that they can deliver software updates in a timely manner.

I root, but many people do not. Many people want samsung to update in a reasonable amount of time.

You can have the best hardware in the world, but if you’re still running way behind on software, you have a problem, and yes people should think twice before they buy from you.

So crawl back into your hole, douchebag.

I have had one in my dirty little hands for about a week. My primary phone is the Thunderbolt.

Things I like about the Charge:

-better battery life than the Thunderbolt. I think this is due mostly to a more efficient screen and better ambient light sensor. On my Thunderbolt, my screen drains the battery so fast. Not the case on the Charge.

-Speaking of the screen, that SAMOLED+ is beautiful.

    Things I don’t like:
    -Less RAM (512MB)
-CPU is last generation for Samsung.
-It’s very lightweight, which makes it feel cheap.
-It’s a Samsung. I still lack faith it will receive timely updates.

Overall, the Thunderbolt will remain my daily driver.

  • Alex W.

The guy at the store told me they have them in stock, but gave me some BS about not being able to even ring it up and that it won’t even work on the network now.

If you really wanted one, I’m sure you could go to a store and haggle someone into letting you buy one.

    • ZDog

They can’t activate a Charge on the VZW network, but you can activate the 4G SIM in a Thunderbolt and swap it over to the Charge and your good to go.

Yes, please post your thoughts! I may recommend this to my brother from his OG Droid.

  • Hamholla

looks pretty but nahhhh, im still waiting for that special someone ;)
