Leaked Netflix Android App has a New Message for Users, How Close are We to Launch?

Over the last couple of days, the leaked Netflix app for Android has started showing the message you are seeing above, leading us to believe that the LG Revolution could actually meet that May 12 launch date that was dropped in our inbox on Tuesday.  Most of you know by now that the REVO will more than likely be the first Android device to support Netflix, so when we see the Android version of the app referencing a “Netflix Ready Devices” list, we have to assume we’re getting close.

And you may remember that previous errors upon use referenced codes and other indecipherable nonsense, so seeing a new message that any fool can understand has us at least a little intrigued.

Oh, and I already checked that URL and it’s definitely not showing anything Android.

Cheers Ryan!

I noticed this 2 days ago.

About a month ago I had reported that that same leaked app that people were sharing was also phoning home to get an update, which of course it could not obtain.

Why is netflix ready for windows phone 7 before it is ready for android? Get your priorities straight netflix.

    • http://www.facebook.com/ken.obrien3 Ken O’Brien

The problem was the studies, not Netflix itself. Windows Phone 7 was easier to meet the DRM requirements than with Android, which is why it has taken so long for Netflix to come to Android

Come on Netflix, quit pussyfooting and get on it! :)

HBO GO. Screw netflix. Also, I’m sure Amazon instant will be more useable before netflix gets off their ass.

  • Mariobros27772

    Will Netflix support older devices?

Then replying to the original comment would probably be the best way to get it noticed. Keeps it threaded, and you don’t look like a 12 year old shouting into a microphone.

Wait, how the hell does WP7 have a Netflix app and Android doesn’t? Wakeup Netflix!!!

    • Aguilacahc007

Micros probably made a deal with netflix to make WP7 more appealing from launch

    • Thekorby1

Netflix is originally coded for desktopapplications as a Silverlight product. Since WinPhone 7 has Silverlight capability, it was a very easy transition…

      • http://twitter.com/starnovsky Stan Tarnovsky

This is not a technical limitation. All politics.

        • Anonymous

Yup since all Netflix was coded for silverlight M$ doesnt want linux getting it. Thats all it can be DRM is a scapegoat.

          • Thekorby1

Although I am disappointed by the current lack of support, there are several projects that are working on porting over the Silverlight derivative for UNIX (moonlight) to android. I believe MSFT had also previously mentioned interest in actually supporting Silverlight on Android. As far as technical limits go, I do agree with you @twitter-43447344:disqus that there really aren’t any, but it is what it is. Frankly, I think it’d been better for microsoft to have provided a silverlight plugin to get their product onto yet another device as opposed to forcing Netflix to find another routs, say HTML5?

          • Anonymous

We have moonlight but it doesn’t have the “Drm” part they say. There’s
something they aren’t telling us cause I have linux on a pc that had windows
and played netflix fine so its not a hardware issue…

Serious question: Who in their right mind keeps checking a non-functional Netflix app for changes?

It does work on certain devices. But…. yeah…. guess he wants it..

    • http://twitter.com/starnovsky Stan Tarnovsky

      I do. :)
Because it’s actually very functional. It allows to manage the queue. And I’m sure it’s fully capable to stream, Netflix just need to turn the server switch on.

I’m tired of all this device exclusivity for applications. Just make the app available to all Android devices. I’m talking to you too Skype with your video chat. We shouldn’t have to buy a certain phone just to get the app we want.

And I’m talking to you, Hulu Plus.

They have an actual reason, the root of all evil, DRM.

  • slappynutz

That app has been doing that on my x for 5 days now.

  • Kevoskee

Just recently got Netflix in February because I thought it would be on the Thunderbolt at launch. I was wrong. Hope they can release a stable version for I can watch my movies at work. HBO Go is OK for me for now

  • http://twitter.com/Pucuck Nicholas Ringhiser

I’m just hoping it hits the Droid X.

    • Anonymous

It won’t. They will only put it on drm enabled hardware.

    • Clothednblack

I just downloaded the leaked app for my droid x running gingerbread 591 deoxed and it plays perfectly. This is awesome. Droid x getting better and better

      • Clothednblack

You mean, who wants one? We’ll wait for it to be announced. :P

    COME

    ON

    ALREADY!

  • http://profiles.google.com/chasehammer Chase Johnson

    hmmm

this whole droid app has me teetering on Netflix (current subscriber) or Blockbuster. Blockbuster already has a droid app working but doesnt have one for PS3. Blockbuster also has video game rentals.

sigh. CMON Netflix dont make me regret keeping my 6 year subscription .

    • EC8CH

I have netflix on just about every piece of electronics in my house (tv, ps3, bluray player) I think even my couch has nexflix support if I could figure out how to plug it into my TV, but for whatever reason getting netflix on an android phone is like pulling teeth.

      • digsoreos

Your couch has Netflix support? That’s awesome. Maybe you should pull your teeth? My false teeth have Netflix. The problem is, I have to watch it while smiling in a mirror and the picture is reversed. :D
