Verizon 4G LTE has been Restored Nationally

by: | posted 04.28.11 | News

Well, here is some semi-good news this morning folks.  4G LTE is back up nationwide, although we’ve been told eHRPD is not, which means no soft hand-offs between 3G and 4G at this time.  Here is the text we received:

LTE Connectivity Restored: Network has been able to confirm that the LTE Network has been restored nationally.

Update:  Verizon has also now confirmed via Twitter.

So again, we’re getting there slowly but surely.  Everyone back up?

Cheers Spaniard!

by: | posted 04.27.11 | Breaking, News

As they always do at midnight EST and 9PM Pacific on the eve of a new phone launch, Verizon has updated their site to include the DROID Incredible 2 and Casio G’z0ne which are both available in stores tomorrow.  If you won’t have time to cruise into one though, you can order them online right now and receive free overnight shipping.  And yep, there is that lovely $439 full retail price we saw yesterday.

Buy.

Still undecided on this new Incredible?  Check out our early coverage below:

And we should point out that the DROID Charge is not available as it should have been, but we aren’t surprised as  we first reported its delay about an hour ago.

DROID Charge Not Launching Tomorrow, will be Rescheduled Due to 4G LTE Outage? (Updated)

by: | posted 04.27.11 | Breaking, News

We just received word from three separate Verizon friends who say they have been notified within the last hour that the DROID Charge will not launch tomorrow, and we’re assuming it’s due to the 4G LTE outage that is still currently plaguing Big Red’s new network.  We had heard rumbles of a delayed launch as a possibility earlier in the day, but managers are now informing their employees that there will indeed be a rescheduled launch.  It looks like this network issue has become bigger than they had imagined.

We’ll keep you posted and will be hoping for a late night miracle.  Would be nice to wake up and hear that the launch is back on, wouldn’t it?  This is not the start the first 4G LTE DROID needs.

Update:  3G and even some 4G LTE seems to be returning around the country.  Could we see the Charge make it at the last minute?

Update 2:  The Charge commercial from earlier today is now set to private.  (Cheers nativi!)

Cheers SV, L, and J!

Official: The “New” DROID Bionic is on the Way with an “Improved Form Factor”

by: | posted 04.27.11 | News

Yesterday, we first reported that the DROID Bionic was slowly being removed from Motorola’s site, which came as a little surprise since we all know that it has been delayed until this summer while Moto enhances it.  That removal though, is now complete and the only page left that even mentions the word “Bionic” is the one you are seeing above.

And this updated page (even with that old date on it), talks of a “new” Bionic that sounds exactly like the one we’ve been hinting at for 2 weeks now, the Targa.  Here is the most meaningful quote from the release which points out that the original Bionic is not the one you’ll be seeing this summer – something we’ve been telling you over and over again since that first cancellation rumor came out.

Based on compelling feedback since the show, we are incorporating several enhancements to make this an even better consumer experience. This includes expanded features, functionality and an improved form factor. Motorola Mobility and Verizon Wireless are very excited about bringing the ‘new’ DROID BIONIC to market.

I know you are all disappointed that a dual-core phone won’t be hitting Verizon store shelves in May, but trust me again when I say that you’ll be more than satisfied with this new version.  It’s destined to make every other phone on the market look silly.  Even those gimmicky 3D ones.

Benchmarks: DROID Charge vs. DROID Incredible 2

by: | posted 04.27.11 | News, Videos

DROID Charge on the left, Incredible 2 on the right.  Did you just say, “Yikes!”?  Don’t worry, I did too when I first ran them.  And then to be fair, I kept running Quadrant over and over again on the Charge hoping that it would improve.  It didn’t.

Now, we all know that Quadrant isn’t the most consistent or realistic of all benchmark apps, but at least it’s something.  It does give us a pretty good idea of where a device stands when compared to another and in this situation, the Incredible 2 is the victor.

New DROID Charge Commercial is Massive.

We’ve always been a fan of DROID campaigns, but this new set of ads for the Charge is shaping up to be one of the best yet.  This is a follow-up to the teaser we saw last Friday.

DROID Charge Unboxing – Verizon

by: | posted 04.27.11 | News, Videos

It’s been quite the DROID phone day, I’d say.  First we gave you hands-on of both the DROID Charge and Incredible 2, then dropped an unboxing for the Inc2, followed by a screenshot taking tip for the Charge, and now we’re back with one more.  It’s time to unbox the first 4G LTE “DROID” on Verizon and see if anyone will start to change their minds over it.  It hasn’t received a lot of love up to this point, so we’re hoping that a full couple of weeks with it followed by a review will help change everyone’s mind.  Let’s do it.
