@GoogleNexus is about to announce something, any guesses?

by: | posted 04.28.11 | News

Google’s Nexus Twitter account has been teasing us for 3 hours now and since we’re seeing all sorts of guesses on Twitter, we thought we’d just bring the question to the masses.  Any ideas on what they might announce?  Free Nexus S 4Gs for all I/O attendees?  A Verizon Nexus (hah, right)?  A new phone altogether?  Android 2.3.4?

As always, let us see your thoughts in the comments…

Motorola XOOM Update Still Coming Today? Features List Removed from Verizon Site

by: | posted 04.28.11 | News, Rumors

Yesterday, Verizon informed us that the Motorola XOOM would be receiving an update starting today, but if you check back to their support site for the device, the new features list has been removed and reverted back to the HRI66 update.  We’re not sure what this means, although we can hope that they took it back to the drawing board and are planning to include SD card support.  OK, that’s definitely not happening, but it would be nice to know what’s going on.

Stay tuned…

Motorola DROID 3 Parts Show Up at Supplier, Targa Name Listed? (Updated)

by: | posted 04.28.11 | News, Rumors

An apparent OEM parts re-seller has posted up what appear to be DROID3 screen and top half kits, which we’ve taken and compared to the few D3 pics that are in the wild.  Yep, I’d say these are definitely the same thing, now we’re just wondering why this site is already selling them?  We weren’t expecting to see this device until late summer, but if you and I can already go out and buy pieces for one, I’d say that Motorola might be closer to having this ready than anyone thought.

The odd thing, is that they mentioned the name Targa alongside the DROID3, but we’re almost positive that is the codename for the new Bionic and that the D3′s is Solana…or should we flip flop those?  The Solana has been spotted with a model number of XT862 which would match up much more closely to the naming scheme for a keyboard-less phone like a DROIDX which the original pictures of the Targa resemble.  And as you may recall from the original DROID and 2 we saw model numbers of A855 and A955, so it would be odd for Moto to switch up that series now, wouldn’t it?

My Water Live Wallpaper Pulled from Transformer, Ported to Motorola XOOM

by: | posted 04.28.11 | Apps, Downloads, News

More goodies for your XOOM!  Our friends over at XDA are already snatching items from the Asus Transformer and making sure they work on other tablets.  First up, is the My Water live wallpaper which you’ve probably seen from press shots and such.  It swishes around on your screen just like you would expect water to, has bubbles for more fun, and then goes into bubble hyperdrive when plugged in for charging.  Fun, fun.

Download:  MyWater.apk (stock kernel) | MyWater.apk (Tiamat or other kernel)

Install just as you would any other apk.

And be sure to cruise over to XDA to see the other apks they’ve pulled from the Transformer.

Fring Group Video Leaves Beta, Hits Android Market

by: | posted 04.28.11 | Apps, News, Videos

Fring introduced a new group video calling feature to a select beta group about 3 weeks ago and are already releasing it to the public for free.  The service allows you to chat with up to 4 friends from all over the world and on a variety of platforms including iOS.

The timing of the release couldn’t have been better, especially with Verizon introducing a couple of new phones that include front-facing cameras, like the DROID Incredible 2.  And I’d ask you to “fring me!”, but I don’t think I can handle that many video chats at once.  Go grab it!

Motorola XOOM Camera Kit Available for $19.99, Support Coming Through Update

by: | posted 04.28.11 | Accessories, News

When we first reported yesterday that a Motorola XOOM update would be made available today, we were sort of confused about one of the new enhancements included in it – the new “picture transfer protocol.”  We kept wondering how this was going to work, but the answer is now obvious thanks to a couple of tips from some VZW friends.  Motorola is introducing a XOOM Camera Kit that is available for $19.99 and can be ordered if you ask a Verizon rep to use item#:  MOTMZ600ADPKIT.  We say to ask a rep because the accessory is not yet viewable online, but we’re being told that it’s definitely in stock and can be ordered.

First HTC Flyer RUU Leaks

by: | posted 04.28.11 | Downloads, News

We still aren’t sure when the HTC Flyer will be released, but we can download the first RUU for this 7″ tablet and start digging inside to see what this Scribe technology is all about.  Don’t forget, you can pre-order it from Best Buy now, just don’t expect to walk out with a firm launch date.
