T-Mobile Takes Shot at Verizon Over 4G LTE Network Down Time

by: | posted 04.30.11 | News

Pretty funny of T-Mobile, right?  Take shots at a company who just experienced more than 24 hours of down time on their brand new 4G LTE network.  Hey, I’d do the same too if I were a competing carrier.  The only thing is, T-Mobile doesn’t even have a 4G network.  That’s right, I’m pulling out the “Fake 4G” card, because when it comes to trash talking, you have to at least have something legit behind your stance…and they don’t.  And while Verizon’s outage was one of the most preposterous things I’ve ever seen from a company this large in a long time (and we are still owed an explanation), I’m just going to shake my head at T-Mo and ask that they keep trying.  Or better yet, why don’t you go sell your soul.  Oh, that’s right, you did…to AT&T.

HTC Thunderbolt Update is Ready: Enhances 3G Connectivity, Fixes SMS Bugs, and Speeds Up GPS Load

by: | posted 04.29.11 | Breaking, News

We were wondering when Verizon was going to ready this update for the HTC Thunderbolt as it has been in the works and talked about behind the scenes for weeks now.  The update is 22.28MB and will enhance connectivity to Big Red’s 3G network and also help load times for GPS updates on Google Maps.  There are some other minor bug fixes in there for SMS and such, but the connectivity is huge.

After the update, you will be on version 1.13.605.7 and your baseband will remain the same.

LauncherPro Plus Skins are Ready to Take Over Your Phone, Droid Life Themed Version Included

Droid Life Skin | BNW Inverted | Glass Sense

We just wanted to take a quick minute to point out that the skinning engine for LauncherPro Plus widgets is taking off like crazy.  If you pop into the market and search for “launcherpro skin” you’ll run into 4 pages worth of custom goodness for your phone.  And one in particular that we’d like to point out comes from out good friend six7one, who put spiced one up with the Droid Life branding and color scheme.  Sexy pink on a Friday?  Yessir.  Other than that, we just grabbed 5 others that really stood out to us as being high quality.  Oh, and don’t forget about signals23 and his entire collection.

DROID Branding Comes to Headphones Too, S10-HD Bluetooth by Motorola

by: | posted 04.29.11 | Accessories, Breaking, News

Are we now taking this DROID-branding thing a little too far, or is it just me?  We saw the CommandOne Bluetooth headset grab a hold of our favorite brand name a couple of weeks ago, but it doesn’t look like Motorola plans on stopping there.  From the picture above, it appears as if they are ready to re-introduce their S10-HD Bluetooth headphones with some special packaging.  Normally priced at $79, it looks like you’ll be dropping an extra $20 for this special edition version.  Are we blaming that sweet DROID armband for the price jump, or because they are “sweat proof”?  Yes, that was sarcasm.

Review: Total Agenda

by: | posted 04.29.11 | Apps, Reviews

One of the things that’s always frustrated me about Google Tasks is that it’s mercilessly tethered to other Google services. You cannot access it by itself; it’s either present through Gmail, Google Calendar, iGoogle or throwing https://mail.google.com/tasks/ig into a Chrome application window.

This carries over to Android; while there’s no shortage of apps that support Google Tasks, finding one with polish that has Calendar functionality was pretty difficult. However, Total Agenda is fulfilling my needs beautifully; it’s useful, stylish and has replaced Google Calendar’s default app as the premier organization tool on my phone.

LG Ally Update to Android 2.2.2 is on the Way, Requires App from Market?

by: | posted 04.29.11 | Breaking, News

Any LG Ally owners still in the wild?  If so, you should be receiving an update to Android 2.2.2 any day now.  You may also be receiving a text like the one above from Verizon which is reminding you that before you can update, you’ll need to download a special app from the market.  We’re not exactly sure why LG and Big Red are requiring an app on your phone in order for this update to go through, but that’s what is needed.

The update looks to be an SMS and other random bug fixer.  Nothing major.
