QuickOffice Pro HD Coupons Rolling Out Now, Final Price After Discount is $9.99

by: | posted 03.28.11 | Apps, Deals, News

QuickOffice Pro HD for Honeycomb came out yesterday, and already the 30% off coupons are starting to roll out to those that signed up when we told you to.  And remember, this is an additional 30% off of the $14.99 introductory price, so you end with a final price of just $9.99.  Not a bad deal on a $24.99 full office suite for your Motorola XOOM.

And I’d drop the coupon code right here in the post, but I want to make sure that everyone who signed up early has a chance to get their order in first.  As many of you know, when we post up coupon codes, they tend to get squashed by the host within a matter of minutes.  If someone were to post it up in the comments though, I cannot stop that.  (Hint…)

DROID X and 2 Gingerbread Mobile Hotspot Tells You to Sign-up through AT&T?

by: | posted 03.28.11 | News

Maybe this is the reason that the first Gingerbread (Android 2.3) builds were rejected late last week by Verizon?  Someone at Motorola must have been cracking away at the 2.3 update for the Atrix 4G and forgot to swap out hotspot apps for Verizon’s DROID X and 2 phones, leaving users with the warning you are seeing above.  And I’m guessing if you head to att.com/mywireless you aren’t going to have any luck.  Silly Moto.

The good news is that maybe Atrix users are closer to Gingerbread than we had imagined!

Cheers David and Dominic!

How to: Root the Motorola XOOM Wi-Fi

by: | posted 03.28.11 | News, Root, Tips, XOOM

If you bought a Motorola XOOM Wi-Fi this weekend, hopefully you didn’t try to root it the same way we all did with the 3G/4G version because there is a chance you would have bricked it.  This is slightly different, but not all that difficult if you have a decent grasp on adb commands.  Yes, adb commands.  It’s time you all start to learn these and get your Android SDK setup properly.  Update:  1-click method added.

All credit to the members of XDA forums for this method.

You’re Welcome Verizon Trade-in Site…

by: | posted 03.28.11 | News

This isn’t really news, but we thought it was funny enough to share.  If you head over to Verizon’s phone trade-in portal and enter in your device as the HTC Thunderbolt, you are treated to the picture above, which is…one of ours!  You may remember it from that exclusive 12-photo spread we had of the final Thunderbolt build a couple of weeks before it was to be released, and it looks like Big Red was impressed.  You’re welcome!

Cheers Jim!

Benchmarks: DROIDX and DROID2 on Gingerbread vs. HTC Thunderbolt

by: | posted 03.28.11 | News

I know, I know, benchmarks (especially) Quadrant are inconsistent, can be faked or bloated and aren’t a great tool to compare phones, right?  I’ve heard the arguments, but at least these give us something.  So we took both the DROIDX and DROID2, slapped the leaked Gingerbread on both and then compared them to the HTC Thunderbolt running Android 2.2 with Sense.  The results are about what we figured since the Thunderbolt has slightly different and newer hardware, but Android 2.3 really seems to have given the DX and D2 a nice boost.

Video: Angry Birds the Movie [Spoof]

by: | posted 03.28.11 | Games, News, Videos

Anyone up for Angry Birds the movie?  Yeah, me neither.  But this spoof trailer from the guys at Rooster Teeth is actually good for a couple of laughs even if it does mention that fruity app jukebox phone from the other side.  The drill sergeant/boss almost ruins it and is the most unfunny character of the entire thing, but once you see the birds for the first time you’ll…well, just watch it and see for yourself.  And no, this has nothing to do with Angry Birds Rio.
