HTC Wants You to Take the Flyer Seriously

We haven’t talked about the HTC Flyer much on this site, but are starting to think it’s time we do since the wifi-only model is headed to Best Buy any day now. As many of you know, the Flyer is HTC’s 7″ Gingerbread (not Honeycomb) tablet that runs a custom version of Sense for big screens and has “Scribe Technology” which allows you to draw, highlight or write on almost any screen at any time. It has front and back cameras, a 1.5GHz single-core processor and truthfully, is no slouch. At least that’s what HTC will have you believe as they try to sell you on it through this new 6-minute video. And I’ve got to admit, they’ve done a pretty nice job of it.

Wow, I might have to give this a solid look when I go buy a tablet this summer. Hopefully it will be on HC by then.

Man….my wife just bought me a nook color for my bday and I rooted it and threw cm7 on there…but now I want this! The NC feels underpowered even though I OC’d it to 1.2ghz. This Flyer seems pretty nice spec-wise.

If it could act like a huge phone I would be all over it. Thats really what I want. A large 6-7″ Screen phone

It really makes me seriously think about getting one. Looks smooth. I’d have to see one to really decide though. I love the note taking and drawing portions.

HTC plumped for the earlier Gingerbread version of Android (2.3/2.4) rather than the Android 3.0 version a lot of the other tablets are using. It seems Honeycomb will arrive on the tablet imminently though

In addition to Flyer, the firm will also launch “two more new tablets” in the first half of this year, both of which will run the newest version of Android , 7′ and 10′ inches….

I’ve got a XOOM and am very unimpressed with Honeycomb. I rather have the Flyer with 2.3/2.4 with their extra features than Honeycomb which still seems to be waiting for more developers to do something with it. Where the heck is the Google Music store btw?

If tablet makers want us to view them as alternatives to laptops, they have to be priced accordingly. If they are going to charge $500 and up, you’re getting a lot more for your money with a laptop. Clearly, the Apple faithful are drinking the cool aide with the iPad, but a reasonably priced tablet is the game changing alternative to a laptop.

I fell like all they really need to do to snag the market is create a keyboard dock cover all it on. slide your tablet down into it connecting the usb. Have a keyboard with 2 more usb hubs and allow it to fold closed like a laptop and be carried around. When you want a tablet you disconnect it.

It should really be a cheap thing to make and make a profit off of and if they came out with it for the Xoom I would get funds together to go buy one immediately.

I’d totally sell my iPad and switch to a 10″ version of this. but if the SEVEN inch version is $600?! i can only image the 10 will be more than that, and i’m not sure i could justify that

Meh… I just got a XOOM WiFi yesterday, it’s already unlocked, rooted, and overclocked to 1.5GHz.. oh and the price? FREE.. Happy Birthday to me (thanks Mom).

Personally, I think it looked pretty gay. I did like the note taking part but overall the infomercial was pretty gay. I can see some people looking for a tablet more like the flyer but I think HTC is dreaming if they expect an entire boardroom to be full of them. I know I’d definitely rather have my Xoom, even if I had a boss retarded enough to give me a flyer.

Regardless it would still be better than packing rotten Apples.

Will probably return my WIFI Xoom for this. It seems to be a better fit for me at the moment and I’ve been underwhelmed with the current state of Honeycomb anyways. Xoom is nice but apps haven’t caught up yet and it’s probably a little bigger than what I prefer.

I was planning on getting the Xoom, but now I think I am going to have to wait and see this thing in action. If it is as awesome as this video makes it look, and at an affordable price, this will be a no-brainer for me!

I am officially impressed. Never been a fan of HTC, but I think this tablet may convert me. I’m already thinking of all the different uses I could find for it.

I truly love Android, i do. But unfortunately Apple has the tablet world on lock with the iPad. If the device isn’t made by apple, it won’t sell. I think Android is the best when it comes to phones but I think they should really just lay low when it comes to tablets..just my own personal opinion.

Those keys are actually like the one on the incredible s…..they rotate automatically….hence that menu key you see doesn’t say menu…like on my tbolt..its like on the incredible s for when they upgrade to honeycomb probably….

True…agreed with shopdroid….but if it is i will definately get it….my products so far…macbook pro…lol….palm pre plus, htc incredible, droid x, HTC THUNDERBOLT, soon to be flyer or transformer…cool dock…flyer…writing and sense….

Yeah I agree. I’m still buying one but I think they should of put that in there. Tech trolls are gonna have fun bashing this tab because no dual core and no honeycomb out the box but me selling my xoom for this says a lot to me.

HTC did a nice job addressing the student on the go to the business meeting and having the technology to really be useful and part of your everyday life. I was a Moto fan, but HTC is really gunning to take the lead here in the Tablet space. I would personally like to see a 10″ version which I am sure is coming.

If I owned a Xoom I would be a little jealous lol.
