DROID X and 2 Gingerbread Mobile Hotspot Tells You to Sign-up through AT&T?

Maybe this is the reason that the first Gingerbread (Android 2.3) builds were rejected late last week by Verizon?  Someone at Motorola must have been cracking away at the 2.3 update for the Atrix 4G and forgot to swap out hotspot apps for Verizon’s DROID X and 2 phones, leaving users with the warning you are seeing above.  And I’m guessing if you head to att.com/mywireless you aren’t going to have any luck.  Silly Moto.

The good news is that maybe Atrix users are closer to Gingerbread than we had imagined!

Cheers David and Dominic!

noooooo! after AT&T eats up T-Mobile its going to go for Verizon? or has it already started?! this is bad news.

  • Possomcrast1

Thid is another reason I think this might be a port from the ATRIX 4g.

Haha! Nice catch with that screenshot. I do hope that means my Atrix will get Gingerbread soon!

  • Dk

Definately not the only bug with leaked 2.3…. im having force close issues with moto’s social networking app. D2

  • Riccidom1

    You’re welcome :)

  • Anonymous

That explains why this GB build’s color scheme is reminiscent of AT&T

  • Anonymous

If I were Verizon, I’d have rejected it too once I saw that.

  • http://www.thecarners.com Matt R Carner

I’m waiting for some retractions from all the douche bags trashing VZW the other day for rejecting this build. Motorola has been really dropping the ball lately.

    • Leering

If it was just this one problem I’m sure we would of had a official update by now.. I’m sure they have other reasons like the latest demo of some app no one wants that they stick on your phone.

      • http://www.thecarners.com Matt R Carner

You’re sure huh? Are you sure that’s not just wishful thinking? Looks to me like so far, the facts support that Moto hasn’t submitted a worthy build yet. But, you’re sure. lol

I hope the poor unwanted r2d2 gets ginger bread.

why not just download the d2 version it should work since they are the same phone

      • Anonymous

        They have different firmwares.

        • ob_jaun

Flash the firmware, install liberty ROM.

          • Anonymous

            I don’t rom. I’m a fully unrooted stock user.

But I sent this in :( why am I not thanked

    • tjhrulz

Also the atrix is gonna get an update it sounds like tomorrow, it isnt this but it does do one thing kills all known methods of root (just like this). XDA has it and says its gonna be tough to get root back

      Edit: 200th comment yay

      • Anonymous

It’s gonna be tough… but it shall be done.

        • tjhrulz

I didn’t say it couldn’t be done but I agree it will happen, They once said we would never even get root on the droid X

I’m not absolutely sure, but I don’t think you guys should be using the unhacked mobile hotspot that comes with stock android. I’m no mobile tech expert, but I would assume that its leaving a trail for the carriers to follow. Like when we do the hotspot hack, it changes the settings to appear as though it is just data used by the phone. Only you are not changing any settings, only using an application that the carriers already know about, and have gone to great lengths to remove out of prior versions of android. If you’re not already getting charged, I would think you will be very soon. They may, and I repeat, may issue a statement allowing everyone to stop using it. Maybe. Just be careful and smart. You could always activate it and wait a couple hours, check your account to see. For now.

    • tjhrulz

Maybe you didn’t know this because you were to busy trollin to read the article but it doesn’t work, and its the wrong companies version, and when did any company try to remove the mobile hotspot feature they put in from android it just makes no sense.

If you are to busy to read that
      Your logic is invalid

      • pj

I’m sorry that you think im trolling, but you couldn’t be more wrong. I was only trying to help and make sure that there weren’t a bunch of people mad next month when they got their bill. All of that is void now that they are giving it away free for a few. But, if you think that no carriers have disabled the stock hotspot functionality before, then obviously you’re new to all this. Do some reading and get back to me on that one. :)

    Nothing about ATT.

  • Mr.Joe

I doubt that we’ll see this blur on the atrix. Blur for the Droids and blur for the other motos are vastly different.

    • Jdenman03

Attic has blur already. Were u born under a rock?

    thats really weird.

Can anyone confirm that stock can be used without a fee or does it have to be patched?(on the leak obviously)

  • http://twitter.com/IRONMatt14 Matt Robinson

Is this feature free? it doesnt force you into paying anything :P anyone confirm or deny whether they are getting charged for it?

If a carrier can charge you for it then no you have to pay

    • Anonymous

Why do you think you need to go to the carrier’s website to “enable” this feature… in this case “enable” = “charge”

      • Anonymous

While it does say that, you are able to activate it without visiting the website. I’m wondering if anyone is actually getting charged for using it. As others have been saying all day, it is working without signing up.

This is my experience with my D2G -old blur- I can tether my laptop and will allow me to surf the web pretty much unrestricted, but as soon as I want to go to a https site, it redirects me to the verizon website to sign up for the hotspot service (dun.vzw3g.com), of course I just back away from it. I haven’t seen any charges just yet on my bill. Incidentally, if you want to learn how this 3G hotspot thing works, check out TBH post on it:
          http://www.mydroidworld.com/forums/android-hacks/5156-tbh-droid-3g-hotspot-nvram-hack.html

          Really good read.

Left over from edits made for the Atrix? It is a leaked build remember… Moto probably is leaving silly mistakes like that for later.

    • tjhrulz

      ?????

      • Anonymous

VZW didn’t allow this update to go out for some reason unknown… many have installed this update and found no bugs… this is the first bug/error we have seen, and this is probably why it failed to pass VZW.. meaning it is a simple fix, and the update will be pushed to phones very very soon if it was suppose to go out last sunday

        need anymore explanation?

        • tjhrulz

Sorry I thought that you had some scope, but yeah make sense that this will come out soon, I have found a few other quirks with the droid 2 version that don’t exist with my friends droid X version but I would say this is a final release candidate.
